1 Sarasota/Manatee Barrier Islands Traffic Study FPID: December, 07 Welcome to the Sarasota/Manatee Barrier Island Traffic Study Public Information Workshop. The Florida Department of Transportation is conducting a study to examine the feasibility of improving the overall transportation infrastructure, including traffic operations and circulation, on the Sarasota/Manatee Barrier Islands as well as island-to-mainland connections. To ensure a comprehensive approach, this study is evaluating a variety of elements including: travel patterns of users on the islands, trips on and off the islands, destination points, existing transit service, existing parking facilities, bicycle/ pedestrian facilities and needs, and land development codes as it relates to parking. At the meeting tonight there are recommendations based upon the data collection analysis performed. The following items were analyzed during this phase: Origin and Destination, Existing Traffic Operational Conditions,, Existing Transit field observations, and Safety. It should be noted that there are different dynamics within the barrier islands. For the purposes of this study, the barrier islands were separated into separate zones according to their individual characteristics: Zone : Anna Maria; Zone : Coquina Beach; Bradenton Beach Zone : boat Key; St Armands Circle; Lido Key The recommendation rankings and timeframes were generally based upon the following items to develop an overall score: Benefit vs cost Implementation Process Right-of-way / Land Needs Public Acceptance Safety Linkage For more information about the project, please contact Tanya King P.E., Project Manager Florida Department of Transportation (86) 9-09 tanya.king@dot.state.fl.us Nathan Kautz P.E., Assistant Project Manager Florida Department of Transportation (86) 9-47 nathan.kautz@dot.state.fl.us. Tonight, please talk with project representatives, they are here to answer your questions and take your input. Please fill out a comment sheet here tonight, or you may take it and mail it back to us. You may also provide your input through the project website shown below.
