FROM THE DESK OF MRS. LA SALLE Through faith, hope and love, may we always be A beacon of light for our children April 27, 2015 Dear Parents: Welcome to the last week of April! This is such a beautiful time of year. The Drama Club performance of Hoodie and School Daze was a wonderful success. The students did an amazing job-from the actors to the stage crew to the lighting and sound crew-the students did it all under the wonderful direction of Mrs. Ruth Mirabella, Mrs. Kucyna and Mrs. Kimak. Well done! Our second graders will be receiving their First Communion this Saturday, May 2 nd. at 11:00 a.m. Please keep them in your prayers. I am so happy to announce that four of our students have won the Passaic County Law Day Poetry and Poster Contest. Poetry: Poster: Dominique Scerbak, Grade 7, First Place Olivia Vallo, Grade 6, First Place Kate Nixon, Grade 6, Second Place Lucas Gonzalez, Grade 6, Second Place As a result, the entire sixth and seventh grade has been invited to attend Law Day on Friday, May 1 st. The activities for the day include the awards ceremony, a mock trial and attendance at the New Citizenship Swearing-In Ceremony. This is the fourth year that St. Mary s has been invited to attend Law Day. It is a wonderful, educational experience for the children. Mrs. Cedrone, Mrs. Pereny and Mrs. Metz will be chaperoning this trip. The Walkathon has been postponed to Friday, May 8 th. Please be sure to complete the Service Contracts for the school year and return them to school. Please join us for Liturgy tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Tomorrow is also a Club Day. Upcoming Events: Thursday, May 7 th. May Crowning 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 8 th. Walkathon Sincerely, Carol La Salle
Welcome Back ~ Spring has finally Sprung! Just a friendly reminder to please send in to the Main Office your signed CONTRACTS for the school year as soon as possible. All contracts need to be submitted before meeting with Fr. Frank. If you have questions, please feel free to contact an HSA Board Member. Thank you for your timely attention to this matter! Alice, Denise, Allison & Vicky
ST. MARY S SCHOOL WALKATHON 2015 (PG 1 OF 4) Parent Information Sheet The students of St. Mary s School will participate in the 19 th annual Walkathon on Friday, May 1 st, 2015 (rain date Friday, May 8). Teachers, Walkathon committee members, and volunteers will be on hand to supervise the event. Students will walk for approximately 30 minutes. The school will provide the students with a snack and water. All the proceeds of the Walkathon will go directly to St. Mary s School to help balance the school budget while friendly competition between grades makes this a fun event. Please assist your children as they solicit sponsors. A sponsor is anyone who pledges a dollar amount for each lap the student walks along the school path or a flat rate for participation. A Pledge Sheet for signing up sponsors is attached to this letter. Sponsors may include yourself as parents, family, friends, neighbors or coworkers. Consider sharing the Sponsor information Sheet with employers, companies or local businesses who may wish to sponsor your child or his/her class. Matching funds are often available through larger corporations and have proven successful in the past. After the students have completed the task of soliciting pledges from sponsors, they must return the Pledge Sheet to the school and any flat rate pledges collected. A parent s signature is required on the permission section of the pledge sheet. Children cannot participate without parental permission. Due Date for Pledge Sheet/Permission Slip: Thursday, April 16, Students should wear their gym uniforms on the day of the Walkathon. After the Walkathon, students will be given copies of their pledge sheets with the total number of laps he/she walked. Please note that in order for your child to have a chance to win, he/she must not only sign-up sponsors and walk, but the money pledged must be collected from the sponsor(s) and turned in by Friday, May 8th. Sponsors may pledge money either on a per lap basis (limit 25 laps), or they may make a flat dollar amount pledge, regardless of the number of laps walked. We are asking that if anyone pledges a flat rate, that you collect the pledge and turn it in with your signed permission slip. All checks should be made payable to St. Mary s School. At the Walkathon, music will be provided. We would like to make this Walkathon an event for our students to celebrate and demonstrate pride in their school. If you have any questions, please call Cathy Giuffre at or Nicole George ( pnikki08@gmail.com).
Thank you in advance. The Walkathon Committee ST. Please Note: 1. Students should wear their gym uniforms on Walkathon Day. 2. Please give this Pledge Sheet to your teacher no later than Thursday, April 16. Any flat rate pledges collected should also be handed in. 3. The maximum number of laps is 25. PLEDGE SHEET Sponsors name/phone # Laps Pledged $ Pledged per lap Amt Due ($ pledged x laps)
ST. MARY S SCHOOL WALKATHON 2015 (PG 3 OF 4) SPONSOR INFORMATION SHEET Dear Sponsor, The students of St. Mary s School will participate in a Walkathon during school hours on Friday, May 1st, All proceeds will go towards balancing our current school budget. In addition, each class will compete against others in their division to win the Walkathon championship. We are asking for your help. Each student will walk for 30 minutes around our school parking lot. They will be limited to no more than 25 laps. Hopefully, each lap will have several sponsors. If you would like to help meet our goal, please consider one of the following options: 1) Pledge a dollar amount per lap walked. (Example: $2 per lap times 20 laps equals $40) OR 2) Make a flat pledge sponsoring a particular student regardless of the number of laps he/she walks. (Example: Murphy Paint pledges $50 for Mary Jones participation in the Walkathon.) After the Walkathon takes place, students will show their sponsors that they have participated in the event and will then collect the money pledges by the sponsors. We have set Friday, May 8th as the deadline for collection. Please make all check payable to: St. Mary s School. Your generous support of this Walkathon will be greatly appreciated and we thank you in advance for helping to make this year s Walkathon a success. Pray for good weather! Sincerely, Walkathon Committee 2015
