November 2012: The following Traffic and Safety Notes were revised: Note 212B Signs with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons: Revise the characteristic requirements to two. Revised ADT requirement from 10,000 to greater than 12,000 to be consistent with Note 401. Removed Site with unexpected crossings. Note 401D Uncontrolled Non-motorized Crosswalks: Revised title from Mid-block Crosswalks to Uncontrolled Non-motorized Crosswalks and all subsequent mid-block crosswalk references. Marked crosswalk can be placed at MDOT Traffic and Safety 1 of 9 1/14/14

Note 704B Parking Facility Dimensions Common width of parking stall provided in lieu of range of widths. Supermarket typical dimensions removed. All metric dimensions have been removed. July 12, 2011: The following revisions, deletion and/or additions were made as part of the annual update of the Notes. Note 149B Advance Snowmobile and All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Crossing Signs This note is revised to address ATV crossings and joint use crossings. Note 211A Procedure for Installing a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon This is a new note to provide guidance for the installation of the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (HAWK). Note 212A Signs with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons This is a new note to provide guidance for the installation of the Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB). Note 306A Procedure for Installing Shared Lane Marking This is new note to provide guidance for the installation of the Shared Lane Marking. Note 401C Evaluation of Mid-Block Non-Motorized Crosswalk Requests This note is revised to provide further guidance in the evaluation and placement of midblock non-motorized crosswalks. Note 610A Stopping Sight Distance and Intersection Sight Distance This note is deleted because the information is provided in the department s Sight Distance Guidelines. September 22, 2009: The following Traffic and Safety Note revised: Note 146B Determination of Advisory Speed on Curves Degree of Curvature (D) is removed and replaced with Radius of Curvature (R). Side Friction Factor (f) value is updated to 2004 AASHTO standards. The graph (page 3) represents standard distribution between Radius vs. Velocity & Friction. April 21, 2009: The following Traffic and Safety Note was revised: Note 607C To Define Requirements and Procedures for Traffic Impact Studies An electronic file of the SYNCHRO analysis for the corridor MUST BE provided on electronic media with the submittal or loaded on the Division of Operations FTP website. submittals of the SYNCHRO analysis will not be accepted. Updated web site address for prequalifed consultants. July 8, 2008: The following revisions and/or additions were made as part of the annual update of the Notes. Note 102C Combing Traffic Signs: Information was added to this existing note to indicate the limitation of what signs can be mounted on the back of either STOP or YIELD signs without hindering the sign s shape. DO NOT ENTER sign added as allowable sign to combine with a STOP sign. Note 109A Proposed No Engine Brake Sign: This is a new Note which clarifies MDOT s position on prohibiting such signing but giving locals the option to place a Noise Laws Strictly Enforced sign if a noise ordinance is in place for use in enforcing the sign. Note 125B Railroad Crossbuck Signs: Edit changes made to existing note changing railroad-highway to highway-railroad. Note 161B Advance Street Name Signs: This Note is an existing Note that is being revised. Placement information from the MMUTCD was added to the first paragraph and information regarding the responsibility for replacing street name signs impacted by construction was added to the fourth paragraph. Note 194B Carpool/Park-and-Ride Lots: Edit changes made to existing note changing car pool to carpool. Note 303C Railroad Grade Crossing Pavement Markings: Edit changes made to existing note changing railroad-highway to highway-railroad. Revised name of contact for MDOT railroad contact. Note 607B Traffic Impact Studies: The names of the studies were revised to Traffic Capacity Analysis and Geometric Studies and Traffic Signal Operations. The web link to approved traffic impact consultants was added. More clarification was added throughout the Note. Note 613B Traffic Impact Assessment: This note was updated to be consistent with the revisions done to Note 607 Traffic Impact Studies. MDOT Traffic and Safety 5 of 9 1/14/14

6 Note 614A Near Side/Far Side Lane Drop: This Note's information has been formatted to be a new Traffic and Safety Note. It has previously existed as a stand alone document in the Lansing Geometries area. Note 803A Guidelines for Illumination at Railroad Crossings: The "Traffic Control Devices at Highway-Railroad Grade Crossings" guidelines are being revised. This Note's information will be included in these revised Railroad guidelines. Note 803A will be deleted from the Traffic and Safety Notes when the Railroad Guidelines are completed. Note 901B Guidelines for Maintaining Traffic Capacity: Added the note under "Operating Speed" to assume a 10 mph reduction in speed in the work zone to both charts on pages 3 and 4. Note 903B Maintaining Traffic During Roadway Work at Railroad Crossings: Revised railroad company name and dollar amounts shown. Note 907B Incentive/Disincentive Clause: Added a note on Page one to also see Note 901. The "Adjustments" on page three were revised. In the table on Page five, the capacities for 25, 30, 40, 50 mph were added to the table. These values were interpolated from the existing values. Note 909A Incident Management Route Signing: This Note is being proposed as a new Note. It will be added to Section 900 of the Notes Manual and this section will be renamed to "Construction Zones, Maintenance Zones, and Incident Management." Sample layouts are included. Note l00lb Traffic Crash Data Request: Lansing Safety Programs revised the Note to reflect the current process of distributing crash data. Note 1004A Design Exception Request Crash Analysis: This Note's information existed elsewhere and it has now been formatted to be a Traffic and Safety Note. Two samples of TSC memos for when the analysis is done by a third party have been added. The memos give concurrence with the third party write-up. Note 1103A FOIA and RESTRICTED USE NOTICE: This Note's information has been formatted to be a Traffic and Safety. The Restricted Use Notice is an existing document. Page 4, J: add "or region electrician" June 13, 2005: A new Access Management Note was been added to the Traffic and Safety Notes. Book keeping work was also been done such as renumbering a couple of Notes, deleting pages for proposed notes, and updating the indexes and cross reference file to reflect these changes. Below is a list of revisions that were made. The 23 new or revised pages were attached to the listserv message that was sent. The complete revised Traffic and Safety Notes PDF file is available on the Traffic and Safety web site. 1. Replace existing 11 page index with condensed one page index. 2. Replace existing index for Section 100 with revised index. 3. Delete proposed Note 102A page and replace with existing Note 109A Combining Traffic Signs (renamed to 102A). This note was renumbered only. No other changes. 4. Replace existing index for Section 200 with revised index. 5. Delete page for proposed Note 209A. No replacement page. 6. Replace existing index for Section 600 with revised index. 7. Renumber existing Note 601A Clear Vision Areas to 612A. This note was renumbered only. No other changes. 8. Add new Note 601A Access Management (Seven pages). 9. Replace existing Cross Reference Index with revised Cross Reference Index to reflect above changes.
