Borecka Scope and Content of Collection Contains information about the general administration of the German prison in Nowy Wiśnicz, Poland, including the treatment of Jewish prisoners, the sentencing of prisoners, and matters relating to prison staff. In addition, the collection contains information about agriculture, economics, and air defense in the in the Generalgouvernement. System of Arrangement The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved in the microfilmed reels. This collection is arranged thematically. Historical Note The Prison Nowy Wiśnicz, Poland (near Kraków) was established in 1783 by the Austrian Emperor Joseph II, who turned the monastery complex in the criminal court and a heavy prison for ordinary criminals. In later years also were sent to this jail political prisoners members of national liberation organizations. During War World II the Prison Nowy Wiśnicz was used by Germans as a prison camp until the establishment of the camp in Auschwitz.
