Historical Note The Prison Nowy Wiśnicz, Poland (near Kraków) was established in 1783 by the Austrian Emperor Joseph II, who turned the monastery complex in the criminal court and a heavy prison for ordinary criminals. In later years also were sent to this jail political prisoners members of national liberation organizations. During War World II the Prison Nowy Wiśnicz was used by Germans as a prison camp until the establishment of the camp in Auschwitz.
