ST. JOSEPH APA League Operator; Dean Johnson Phone; ; Web; stjoseph.apaleagues.com OFFICE HOURS Office hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Office is closed on all national holidays). During League play, your Division Representative may be available to answer questions. If we have not returned your call within 2 business days, please call again. FEES Team fees are $35 (change will not be accepted) per week per team for all scheduled matches regardless of number of games played including forfeits and division playoffs. Please make checks payable to the St.Joseph APA. There will be a $20 charge for any returned checks, plus loss of the bonus point. APA player annual membership dues of $25 are due the first night a player plays or by the fourth week of the session, whichever occurs first. Captains are responsible for allowing players to play without paying dues, therefore they are responsible to pay any membership dues not collected. Team that fall two weeks behind in paying their team fees or membership dues will be sent a warning notice. If the team does not become current upon receipt of the notice it may be dropped from the League for non-payment. PLEASE PAY WITH CHECK IF POSSIBLE. League Office and/or Drop locations are not responsible for missing fees. TEAM CAPTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES The team captain is the first person listed on the team roster. The team captain is an essential part of the team. A team may elect a new team captain by a simple majority vote at any time. Local League Management must be notified immediately should this occur. Responsibilities include: Verifying weekly team points, communicating to team any contents in team packet, communicating discrepancies at once to Local League Management, collect membership dues/weekly fees for the team and turn them into the Local League Office, ensure all rules, sportsmanship, eligibility, & scorekeeping procedures are followed. Team captains and players should be familiar with the APA Official Team Manual. PACKET PICK UP/DROP OFF Two locations have been chosen for packet pick up and drop off. These are Bleachers, and Kellys. Your default location has been chosen by your home bar, though you may change for convenience. All packets must be in by 7 pm Friday. Packets will be dropped off Sun. by 2:30 pm at Kellys. Bleachers packets will be dropped off by 6:30 Mon. *** Captains will be notified for any variances in times ***
MATCH TIME GUIDELINES The following match time guidelines have been implemented in order for teams to have an enjoyable League night. Long matches are exhausting to everyone. Keep in mind that these are basic average time guidelines. Some shots may take a few seconds longer while others a few seconds shorter. These guidelines are not intended to encourage people to use stopwatches or anything that strict. If teams or players are taking too long on a consistent basis, you must inform them first as they may not even realize that they are taking too long. Players or teams that consistently and grossly abuse these time guidelines even after you brought it to their attention should be reported to the League Office or have their slow play reflected in their 5-Star Sportsmanship Rating. Here are the basic time guidelines Average shot 30 seconds Special shooting situation 60 seconds (maximum) Time out 1 minute limit Each new player selection 2 minute limit COACHING Refer to APA Team manual for guide lines. It is not considered coaching if you re talking to your team while your opponent is shooting but when they miss and the balls stop rolling, STOP TALKING!! ** New to APA players regardless of skill receive 2 timeouts per game on first night of play. ** TROPHIES Divisions of five or less teams will be given trophies to the Division Champion (high point team) and their host location only. In divisions with six or more teams, that division will also receive second place trophies. AWARDS When earned, players may request award patches for 8 or 9 on the Break, Break and Runs, 9-Ball Skunk (beat opponent 20-0 and both players have 20 scores in the past two years), Grand Slam (acquire an 8 and 9 on the Break and an 8 and 9 ball Run in the session), 8-Ball Mini Slam (acquire 8- Break and Break and Run in one session), 9-Ball Mini Slam (acquire 9-Break and Break and Run in one session) and 8-Ball 5-0 (your team wins an 8-Ball match 5-0) Forfeits do not count. For skill levels 2-3 in 8-Ball and skill levels in 9-ball,Rackless Night and where both players have 20 scores in the past two years, we offer the 8-Ball I beat a 6 or I beat a 7 and 9-Ball I beat an 8 or I beat a 9. Anytime a player wishes to receive any earned award, the player must request the award in the fees section but there is no charge for the award. Players must request their awards the week that they earned them or they will forfeit their right to request the award.
TRAVEL FUNDS FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS APA does not guarantee that we will send a team to the National Championship. If your team advances to a National Tournament, you are not guaranteed full travel/lodging expenses but we will always try to make it an affordable trip and generally follow guidelines set by the APA National Office (paid entry fee, three rooms lodging per qualified teams) Players or teams that decide not to go to the National Championships must inform the League Office and will not receive any paid entry fee, travel funds or lodging. You must be able to field a team with the minimum number of players required to participate without a forfeit in order to receive any benefits. Players or teams that have been paid a travel allowance and lodging and decide not to attend the National Championship or cannot field a team with the number of players required to participate without a forfeit must immediately repay the full amount of entry fee, travel allowance and lodging to the League Office. All prizes and travel allowances are sent to the team captain and it is the team captain that is responsible for distributing any prize money to the rest of the team. LTC winning teams must have played at least 2 sessions to receive full travel benefits. BONUS POINTS 8-Ball teams will be awarded one (1) bonus point and 9-Ball teams will be awarded ten (10) bonus points for: Fully completing the team score sheet Collecting all fees due for the week Submitting the team packet at the drop-off location no later than 7:00 PM Friday BYES Byes are worth 8 points in 8-Ball and 60 points in 9-Ball. No weekly fees are due during bye weeks and there are no score sheets or bonus points. FORFEIT TIMES The first individual match is considered forfeited fifteen (15) minutes after league start time (real time), with leniency for new teams and weather. The second individual match is considered forfeited five (5) minutes after that. DISPUTES should be resolved by the two players, and not by the coaches or team captains. If a dispute can not be settled between the two players, then contact your DIVISION REPRESENTATIVE, or League Office. It is strongly recommended that the players resolve the dispute in sportsmanship like manner. Remember this is just a game SHARKING Any player that breaks down his\her cue (in a game-losing situation) or grabs the rack while their opponent is shooting will result in a loss of that game.
EQUIPMENT Teams are to use hosts balls, racks, etc. unless other team agrees to other. Jump cues are not to be used. Cue extenders are legal also you may break down or use a short stick to avoid obstructions. You can switch sticks in match play. TABLE ETIQUETTE Stay away from the table (out of players line of sight) when your turn is over. Do not touch the cue ball while it is still moving. The cue ball is ALWAYS live. Even after the cue ball has stopped, it is always a good idea to verify that the shot resulted in ball in hand. It is also recommended that the player not put their hand in a pocket to catch the cue ball if it appears to be scratching. If a player intentionally disturbs the natural layout of the table during the course of the game, this is a loss of game for that player. A loss of game in 9-ball awards the winning player all points left on the table. Cell phone usage is prohibited during match play. PLAYER ETIQUETTE Treat your opponent as you would like to be treated. Pay attention to your match; be ready to shoot when it s your turn, so you don t slow down the match. If you are expected to play the next match, have your cue ready, have enough quarters for the table, if needed, and begin your match as soon as the previous match is over. Limit coaching to a maximum of 1 minute. Cheering for your teammates is permitted and part of the fun, but do not cheer against your opponent. A fun and competitive evening of League play is a goal that can be achieved by observing these guidelines and displaying good sportsmanship RESCHEDULED MATCHES All rescheduled matches must be made up ASAP to avoid misleading standings. If teams cannot agree on a makeup date, zero points may be awarded to either or both teams. The League Office must be informed of any rescheduled matches the day after the original match is scheduled or penalties may be assessed. The team that is postponing is responsible for calling the League Office. Postponements are not allowed the final week of regular session play without permission from the League Office. PLAY-OFFS Play-offs are a continuation of weekly play. Standard rules and fees apply. First and second high point finishers per division, per session, will be qualified for LTC. Fourth to last place teams are eligible for wild card draw. Draws are done by BOG member and me. Wild card teams are randomly numbered and then numbers are drawn by a BOG member. All teams qualified or not, are eligible for wild card draw. Third place will play wild card team. Third place and wild card teams will not play off if both are already qualified.
LTC QUALIFICATION Once a team qualifies, that team must remain in the top 75% of their division or within (x) amount of points equal to teams in division to points leader (8 ball x 2 points / 9 ball x 10 points) (8 team division = 16 points in 8ball, etc.). The team can also be tied with team at 75%. If a qualified team finishes the session below these requirements that team will lose their place in LTC but may regain eligibility by qualifying in the next session. LTC LTC (Local Team Championship) will be a modified single elimination Tournament. Your team is guaranteed to play twice. BAD WEATHER During bad weather, teams should notify their opponent of any possible delay or postponement. Please allow extra time for traveling during bad weather. AGE REQUIREMENTS Players must meet verifiable age requirements of playing locations.
