3 The following aspects are for all State Aboriginal Football Festivals & Tournaments, and are common across the all age groups for both the boys and girls divisions. Format Field Markings: Markers and/or painted white lines will be used for field markings Start of Play and Restart after a Goal: The ball must be passed forward to a team mate from the middle of the half way line All players must be in their own half of the field of play Opponents must at least five (5) metres away from the ball until it is in play The ball must touch a team mate before a goal can be scored Ball In and Out of Play: The ball is out of play when the whole ball has crossed the goal line or the touch line either on the ground or in the air The ball is out of play when the game has been stopped by the referee Method of Scoring: A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goal posts and under the crossbar 3 P a g e

4 The Field of Play: The field dimensions are to be: Maximum: 45 metres x 35 metres Minimum: 40 metres x 30 metres Goal Size: The goal sizes are to be three (3) metres wide x two (2) metres high The Ball: The ball size is to be Size Four (4) for all Under 10 and Under 11 games The ball size is to be Size Five (5) for all Under 12 and Under 14 games Penalty Area: The penalty area is to be rectangular: eight (8) metres depth x twelve (12) metres width The penalty area may be marked by marked lines, broken marked lines, flat or soft markers or cones Duration of the Game: The duration of the game is to be two (2) x twelve (12) minute halves plus a half time break no longer than two (2) minutes The referee shall signal the start and end of the match, including the half time breaks The Number of Players and Interchange: The maximum number of players per team on the field at any one given time is to be five (5), with the inclusion of a goalkeeper All participating teams must field a goalkeeper 4 P a g e

5 A maximum of three (3) players may be used as interchange players Interchange players may rotate during the entire game The Coach or Team Manager is allowed to make player changes while the ball is in play, but must wait until the substituted player has left the field Each participating team must have a nominated Coach and Team Manager Goalkeeper: The goalkeeper is allowed to handle the ball anywhere in the penalty area To restart play after a save or gathering the ball with their hands, the ball must be thrown or rolled from the hands or played from the ground with their feet, within six (6) seconds The goalkeeper is not allowed to kick or drop kick the ball directly from their hands Opponents must be at least five (5) metres outside the penalty area and cannot move inside the penalty area until the ball is in play The ball is in play once it moves out of the penalty area or when the goalkeeper places the ball on the ground An indirect free kick is awarded if the goalkeeper touches the ball with their hands after it has been deliberately kicked to them by a team-mate 1. Ball Crossing the Touch Line: There is no throw in A player from the opposing team to the player that touched the ball last before crossing the touch line will place the ball on the touch line and pass the ball back into play Opponents must be at least five (5) metres away from the ball until it is in play The ball must touch a team mate before a goal can be scored 3. Ball Crossing the Goal Line after Touching the Defending Team Last: There will be a Corner kick A player from the attacking team places the ball inside the corner arc nearest to the point where the ball crossed the line Opponents must be at least five (5) metres away from the ball until it is in play The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick 4. Ball Crossing the Goal Line after Touching the Attacking Team Last: Goal kick from anywhere within the penalty area Opponents remain at least five (5) metres outside the penalty area until the ball is in play The ball is in play once it is kicked directly out of the penalty area 6 P a g e

7 Match Referee: The main role of the referee is to control the game and to ensure it is played fluently with the correct number of players on the field The referee should also issue and award indirect free kicks, and where necessary, caution or send off players for any serious indiscretions (see below) The referee is to record the match scores and keep time Fouls and Misconduct Indirect Free Kick: Indirect free kicks are awarded for all acts of handball or fouls and misconduct Opponents must be at least five (5) metres away from the ball when the indirect free kick is taken (An indirect free kick is where a goal can be scored only if the ball subsequently touches another player before it enters the goal) Penalty: For deliberate or serious acts of handball or fouls and misconduct in the penalty area, a penalty kick is awarded from the edge (centrally) of the penalty area with only a goalkeeper in position All other players must be outside the penalty area and be at least five (5) metres behind the penalty spot Fouls and misconduct are: kicks or attempts to kick an opponent 7 P a g e

8 trips or attempts to trip an opponent jumps at an opponent charges an opponent strikes or attempts to strike an opponent pushes an opponent tackles an opponent from behind to gain possession of the ball making contact with the opponent before touching the ball holds an opponent spits at an opponent handles the ball deliberately plays in a dangerous manner impedes the progress of a player Player Cautions and Send Off s: Players receiving a red card in a match shall be suspended for the following match Players receiving two (2) yellow cards in a match, resulting in the send off of that player, shall be suspended for the following match Players receiving a yellow card in a match, followed by a red card in the same match, shall be suspended for the next match Players receiving three (3) single yellow cards in different matches over the duration of the Festival, shall be suspended for the match following the receipt of the third yellow card 8 P a g e

9 Points, Tables and Finals The Aboriginal Youth Football Tournament will adopt a round robin format with the inclusion of finals play-offs All participating teams within a particular age group and category (boys or girls) shall play against one another, a minimum of one time each (depending on number of registered teams) At the conclusion of the round robin fixtures, the top four teams will play off in a semi-final, with teams finishing 1 st playing against 3 rd and 2 nd playing against 4 th The winner of each game will progress to the final Time permitting, a third/fourth play-off will be played prior to the final In the event finals are drawn, extra time of two (2) x five (5) minute halves will be played Should scores still be tied after this extra time period teams will be required to compete in a penalty shoot out, where each team can take up to five (5) penalties If required, to determine a winner, sudden-death penalties will take place i.e. until one team misses, and the other team scores Points are awarded as follows during the round robin fixtures: Win = 3 points Draw = 1 point Loss = 0 points Where teams are equal on points, to determine the higher placed team, the following will be viewed: Goal difference 9 P a g e
