3 UNDERGROUND SURVEY WITH MINEMODELLER INTRODUCTION This tutorial covers the basics of underground survey with MineModeller. REQUIREMENTS To do this tutorial fully you will need the following: 1. A workstation with MineModeller 3.52 or above installed and licensed 2. Microstation V8 XM or above 3. Access to the folder with the tutorial data 4. MineModeller configured to use the tutorial database GETTING STARTED WITH MINEMODELLER Open up Microstation and when prompted for the file to load make sure that the user is set to MineModeller. If you are an advanced user you could skip this step but you would need to configure Microstation to work with MineModeller manually. Then browse to the design file Tutorial.dgn in the folder Tutorial on the desktop: Summary: Page 2 of 47

4 And open it. On the Microstation toolbar you will see the MineModeller button which you click to open the MineModeller window. The MineModeller window integrates within Microstation. Summary: Page 3 of 47

5 It is like any other Microstation window and can be floated, docked to the top, bottom, left or right. Try this out for yourself. When finished with MineModeller and you still want to continue in Microstation just click the X on the top right hand side of the MineModeller window. To open MineModeller again just click its icon on the toolbar. Try this as an exercise. THE MINEMODELLER WINDOW The MineModeller window always shows the current Peg Group (the active set of pegs we are working with) in the bottom right hand corner. To switch groups click on the drop down at the bottom right of the MineModeller window. Summary: Page 4 of 47

7 MANUALLY CAPTURING A PEG To Manually capture or import pegs use the Peg->New->Manual Input menu option. Type in the peg data as illustrated below: Now press the save button to save the new peg, and it then appears in our peg list: Summary: Page 6 of 47

8 And lets enter another peg so that we have a base for surveying: Note here we entered the backsight peg so the system will know that the two pegs form a base. Save your results and we then have two pegs in our list: Summary: Page 7 of 47

9 Save your entry a PLOTTING A PEG To see where this peg is located you select the peg and right click for the pegs context menu: Summary: Page 8 of 47

When entering angles you can use the space bar or comma to separate the degrees, minutes and seconds fields for easy entry. Notice as you enter, that if you entered the data correctly the two red rectangles go white again signifying that the values are within tolerance. To move between tabs use the next button or click on the tabs themselves. Summary: Page 14 of 47

19 You can save the printout as RTF, text or print to a printer of your choice. Then click save to save the new peg in the database. After clicking save, the new peg is set as the setup peg and old setup peg is set as the backsight, so you can easily continue the survey capture. Summary: Page 18 of 47

20 Click close to go back to the peg list. PEG JOBS Every action on pegs has an associated job which stores all its data. Summary: Page 19 of 47

21 To see the peg jobs select the Peg jobs tab: Here you can see the two manual entry jobs and the double setup job. To see the job details right click and choose the view option. And the job is displayed. Summary: Page 20 of 47

22 You are unable to make any changes, but you can print the job by pressing the print button. SURVEYING A PEG SINGLE SETUP METHOD To Survey using the single setup method choose the menu option Peg->New- >Single Setup/Button option: Summary: Page 21 of 47

31 PEG SURVEY ERRORS Now let s see how tolerance issues are handled. 33 Note the red background in the second difference column. That means that the tolerance on vertical difference has been exceeded. Now continue entering the other data: Summary: Page 32 of 47

35 Because in the backcheck error tolerances were exceeded. If you go ahead and say ok, the peg calculation will be saved but will not be approved, so you will not be able to use this peg as a setup or backsight in further peg calculations. A survey administrator can go into the peg jobs and investigate and decide to approve this peg. You can see that the last job was not approved (its approved by field is blank) You can view this job and see where and how much the error is: Summary: Page 34 of 47

37 Now in the tutorial database you are a Survey Administrator so you can approve this peg calc. All you do is go to its job, view it and click the approve button. You will be prompted to continue: Summary: Page 36 of 47

42 Clicking the zoom button zooms view 1 to the tape we have just placed. We can now enter the offsets: Summary: Page 41 of 47

46 Offline mining calculations are very simple. To activate this tool click the offline mining icon on the MineModeller toolbar: One then chooses the layers on which to place the over mined and under mined elements. Then one chooses the layer containing the planned pillars, the layer containing the actual pillars. One can optionally enter the average depth to workings etc for safety factor calculation. Then select the elements that you want to perform the calculation on: Summary: Page 45 of 47

48 And the elements are created with the chosen safety factor as text in the pillar centers if this was chosen.
