3 Mission Statement Mankato United Soccer Club (MUSC) is an educational, non-profit organization formed to promote, foster, and perpetuate the game of soccer for players under 20 years of age in the greater Mankato/North Mankato area and beyond. Mankato United Soccer Club provides opportunities for youth to learn and grow while playing soccer in an environment that s safe, fair, and fun. MUSC offers programs for girls and boys of diverse ages and skill levels. Mankato United also recruits, trains, and supports coaches, referees, administrators, and other adult volunteers to serve the club s programs. Mankato United Club Philosophy We are dedicated to implementing a possession style of soccer that can be recognized across the state of Minnesota. Possession soccer allows for the players to pass in all directions. Mankato United teams will play as one unit in possession and on defense. In order to implement a possession-based style of soccer we need to focus on the technical side of the game. All players should be comfortable with the ball at their feet. Most importantly players should be able to receive and pass with both feet and be aware of when to use the correct foot. Tactics are only as strong as our player s ability to execute the technical skills necessary to play possession. The best tactics or systems of play become irrelevant without a strong technical foundation. We encourage our players to focus on development rather than results. Winning is fun but is not the sole purpose of Mankato United. We want our players to develop as all around soccer players. We want to encourage our players to try new positions and take risks. Our players should be encouraged to try new skills regardless of the outcome.

12 Volunteer Policy 1. Each family in MUSC is required to fulfill five (5) hours of volunteer service (a maximum of (15) hours of volunteer service per family). 2. Policy applies to competitive players only (rec and rec plus players are excluded). 3. A $125 volunteer fee will be assessed to each player ($375 maximum fee per family) for the summer competitive season. 4. The fee will be collected in the form of a check by the Team Manager at the beginning of the summer competitive season (first team meeting or practice after teams are announced in mid-january) and must be collected before a player card is issued. 5. Players from families who have not paid the fee will be allowed to practice with their team, but the individual will not be issued a player card and thus will not be eligible to play in any games until the fee is collected. 6. Most volunteer opportunities are in support of field setup and teardown and SoccerFest (the club s hosted youth tournament), but other opportunities exist to help with field maintenance, concessions, game management, equipment, and certain other administrative responsibilities. Volunteer opportunities will be posted on the Club s website. 7. Families will have a secondary opportunity to fulfill their volunteer hours outside of the summer season by helping with the mid-august evaluation and tryout process, working during the club s fall soccer season, or by assisting with tearing down the field and storing equipment following the fall season. 8. Players are encouraged to participate in working volunteer hours on behalf of their families. Note: only players 15 years of age and older are allowed to work concessions. 9. If for any reason there is a shortage of volunteer fees collected by the Team s Volunteer Coordinator, the shortfall will be deducted from the team s tournament reimbursement fees. 10. Hours must be completed during the evaluation cycle calendar year (i.e-evaluation date in August prior to the next summer s soccer season to the day prior to evaluations the following August). Uncompleted hours will result in retention and deposit of the entire check (no pro-rated credit hours or refunds). 11. Volunteer hours are not transferable between families, and may not be rolled over from year to year. 12. Upon successful completion of the volunteer hours requirement, MUSC will return the check(s) to each family. 13. Volunteer duties will be assigned and managed at the team level during the summer playing season. The Team Manager will maintain a record of volunteer service during the summer competitive season that will be submitted to the Club s Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteer hours worked outside of the summer season will be tracked by the manager and added to those worked during the summer competitive season. The Club Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for verifying completed volunteer service hours and for making the final determination on the refunding or retention of each family s volunteer fee check.
13 Team Manager Volunteer Duties 1. Familiarize yourself with volunteer policy on MUSC website. 2. Collect volunteer checks (made out to MUSC), and hold checks until team family volunteer hours are completed. Have families post date checks for the end of the season. 3. If checks are not submitted- work with coach to withhold player pass. 4. Direct team families to MUSC website for volunteer opportunities. 5. Communicate with team families throughout summer season to help track their volunteer hours- please note some may have volunteered the previous fall season. 6. Keep a list/spreadsheet of volunteer hours. 7. Communicate to MUSC volunteer coordinator (Erin Roberts) ~1/month regarding volunteer hour completion. 8. Return or tear up checks (depending on team family direction) as volunteer hours are completed. 9. Upon season completion - send to MUSC volunteer coordinator (Erin Roberts) final report and any remaining checks (from team families who never volunteered). 10. MUSC volunteer coordinator contact info: volunteer@mankatosoccer.org. 11. Collect volunteer checks (made out to MUSC), and hold checks until team family volunteer hours are completed.
