1 ACTIVITY #1 Set up: Close the Gate Gatekeeper (Goalkeeper/Defender) on the line protecting the gate with ball in hands. Instructions: Player 1 passes to Player 2. Player 2 tries to get through the gate & past the Gatekeeper. The Gatekeeper has ball in hands & tries to touch 2 with the ball. The Gatekeeper can only move side to side along the line. Player 2 must go through the gate to score. Coaching Points: Pace & accuracy of pass, First touch control, See the ball & the player, Change of direction & speed ACTIVITY #2 Set up: Dribbling, Turning, & Finishing to 2 Goals. 2 Teams set up on opposite sides of a 15 x 30 area with 2 goals & Goalkeepers setup as shown. Instructions: Defending player initiates play with a pass to an Attacker. The Attacker receives & tries to score in either goal. Coaching Points: Pace & accuracy of pass, 1st touch control, See the ball & the player, Change of direction & speed ACTIVITY #3 Set up: 1v1 Attackers start at the top of a 10 x 30 yard area. Server starts at the bottom. Defenders start at the side as shown. Instructions: Server passes to Attacker. Attacker receives the ball & tries to score by taking on the Defender & dribbling over the end line of the area. Coaching Points: 1st touch control, See the ball & the player, Attack the front foot, Change of direction & speed

2 ACTIVITY #4 Set up: 1v1 Attacking to Goal. Players arranged in a 20 x 30 yard area as shown. Instructions: Goalkeeper initiates play with service to one of the Attackers. The closest Defender tries to close down. The Attacker receives the ball & takes on the Defender to score. Coaching Points: 1st touch control, See the ball & the player, Attack the front foot, Change of direction & speed, Attitude & accuracy to finish ACTIVITY #5 Set up: Dribbling Turning Shooting at Goal P1 Instructions: Player 1 in each group dribbles into square, works turn to come out & shoot on assigned goal. Repeat as shot is taken. Progress & ask for, or introduce, different turns. Assign different goals for variation. Coaching Points: See the ball & the players, Change of direction & speed, Eye on ball/head down, Part of foot & ball, Follow through ACTIVITY #6 Set up: Dribbling, Turning, & Shooting at Goal P2 Instructions: Player 1 in each group dribbles into the middle square, works a turn to come out & shoot on goal. Players may shoot on any goal but only 1 shot is allowed on each goal. Next player repeats as soon as Player 1 gets the shot off. Coaching Points: See the ball & the players, Change of direction & speed, Eye on ball/head down, Part of foot & ball, Follow through

3 ACTIVITY #7 Set up: 4 Goal Dribbling & Shooting 1 Instructions: Player 1 in each group dribbles toward the nearest cone, touches the ball across the face of the cone & runs around the other side of the cone to shoot at goal. Next player repeats as soon as Player 1 gets the shot off. Progress & work the left side. Coaching Points: Change of speed & direction, Eye on ball/head down, Part of foot & ball, Follow through ACTIVITY #8 Set up: Partner Tag. Players arranged in pairs with one ball. Two players are "it" holding a bib between them. Instructions: "It" tries to tag any player in possession of a ball. Players must move around the area dribbling & passing with their partner. If you are tagged, you & your partner are "It". Coaching Points: See the ball & the players, Accuracy/Pace/Weight of pass, Part of foot & ball ACTIVITY #9 Set up: 4 Goal Pass, Control, & Shoot 1 Instructions: Player 1 in each group passes to Player 2. Player 2 controls the ball with a touch across the face of the cone & runs around the other side of the cone to shoot at goal. Passer become the shooter. Repeats as soon as Player 1 gets the shot off. Progress & work the left side. Coaching Points: Pace/Weight/Accuracy of pass, 1st touch control, Eye on ball/head down, Part of foot & ball, Follow through

4 ACTIVITY #10 Set up: Get out of Jail 3 Zone Game with Goakeeper & Defenders (D1 & D2) restricted to zone. D1 restricted to Zone 1, D2 restricted to Zone 2, & the Goalkeeper defends Zone 3 (Free Area). Instructions: D1 passes to X1 or X2 & defends. X1 & X2 try to combine & beat D1, then D2, & finally the Goalkeeper. Defenders cannot recover past their zone. Coaching Points: First touch control, Decision, Timing/Accuracy/Weight of pass, Support the ball (Type of runs - A, B, or C?) ACTIVITY #11 Set up: 3v3 Four Goal SSG Area: 30 x 20 (Orient field so it is wider than it is long, or adjust field to square) Instructions: Players may score by dribbling through any goal. Keep possession if goal is scored. Players cannot attack the same goal twice in succession. Looking at the diagram, R1 has 2 options. Option A - work turn & attack the open goal. Option B - pass to R2 to attack open goal. Variation: Line Soccer - attack & defend lines rather than goals. Progression: Teams attack 2 goals & defend to goals (Directional) Coaching Points: See the ball & the players, Change of direction & speed, Decision to pass or dribble, Pace/Weigth/Accuracy of pass ACTIVITY #12 Set up: 3v3 Dribbling Gates SSG Area: 20 x 20 yards Players: 6 Instructions: The Team in possession may score in any goal. Goals are scored by dribbling through any goal. Maintain possession after scoring. Goals cannot be scored in the same goal twice in succession. Progression - Upon scoring, players must pass before scoring again. Coaching Points: See the ball & the players, Change of direction & speed, Decision to pass or dribble, Pace/Weigth/Accuracy of pass

5 ACTIVITY #13 Set up: Rapid Fire Dribbling & Shooting Game. Continuous 1v1 duels. Teams of 3-6 players. Instructions: All players defend their goal to start. Play starts with a free dribble & shot. The defending player that stops the ball immediately attacks the other way. Above, Red Player 3 stops the ball & attacks. As soon as the shot is away, the shooter defends. Repeat sequence each way. Coaching Points: See the ball & the players, Changes of speed & direction, Attitude & Accuracy ACTIVITY #14 Set up: Pass & Control: Line Drills Instructions: P1 - Pass & Follow. Option to use target to highlight accuracy &/or create competition (e.g. How many goals can each group score in 2 minutes?) P2 - Pass Straight & Move Diagonally. Again, target is optional. Variations/Progressions: 1) Tighten area & progress to 1-touch. 2) Use same set up to introduce set-ups, take-overs, &/or wallpasses Coaching Points: Accuracy/Pace/Weight of pass, Attack the ball, Body behind the ball, 1st touch control ACTIVITY #15 Set up: Pass & Control Line Drills - Intro to Combinations Instructions: Pass & Control Line Drills - Intro Combination Play A) Set up passing. Player 1 passes & follow to receive layoff from Player 2. P1 sets ball back into path of P2. P2 must hold run. Repeat other way. B) Wallpass. P1 plays attacks the cone with a dribble & plays a wallpass with either Wall Player to receive ball behind the cone. Player 2 repeats the other way. C) Takeover. Player 1 passes long to Player 2. P2 controls & runs ball at P1. P1 delays & times run to "take" the ball from P2. Both players explode out at the moment of the "take". Repeat. D) Show & Open. Players 1shows for a pass from Player 2. Player 1 receives half-turned & passes to Player 3. Repeat sequence in opposite direction. Coaching Points: All Passing, Receiving, & Support Key Factors apply. Prioritize Key factor information according to Stagef Development

6 ACTIVITY #16 Set up: Pass & Control - Star Passing Instructions: Pass in sequence. Player 1 passes to Player 2, P2 passes to P3, & so on. P5 passes to P1. Progression - Add 2nd & 3rd ball. How many balls can we keep? Coaching Points: Accuracy/Pace/Weight/Timing of pass, Body behind the ball, Attack the ball, 1st touch control ACTIVITY #17 Set up: Pass & Control - Passing by Numbers Instructions: Pass in sequence & Move. Player 1 passes to Player 2, P2 passes to P3, & so on. P5 passes to P1. Progression - Add 2nd & 3rd ball. How many balls can we keep? Coaching Points: Eye contact/communication, Pace/Weight/Timing of pass, Attack the ball, 1st touch control ACTIVITY #18 Set up: Doggy in the Middle (5v1 Keep Away) Instructions: 5 Players keep possession by dribbling & passing. One Player attempts to win the ball. When the ball is won, the Player losing possession becomes the "Doggy". Coaching Points: Prioritize Passing, Receiving, & Support Key Factor Information according to Stage of Development

7 ACTIVITY #19 Set up: 3v3+1 Passing SSG Area: 30 x 30 yards Players: 6 Instructions: The Team in possession scores by putting together 5 consecutive passes. Maintain possession after scoring. Goals count double if scored twice in succession with no loss of possession. Coaching Points: Decision to pass or dribble, Pace/weight/accuracy of pass, 1st touch control, Eye contact/communication

8 Session Plan: GK Practices ACTIVITY #1 Set up: Goalkeeping Introduction to Handling. 4 GK's + 4 Coaches/Adults working in a 10 x 10 yard area (One with One concept) Instructions: Coach/Adult working to provide quality service to GK's. A) Rolled ball B) Bouncy ball low (mid-area) C) Bouncy ball high Progress from static to moving throughout the area working in pairs. Progress again so that GK's are moving from coach to coach dealing with varied service. Coaching Points: Body behind the ball, Attack the ball, Body Shape, Hand position, Meet ball at highest point ACTIVITY #2 Set up: Goalkeeping Introduction to Diving. 4 GK's + 4 Coaches/Adults working in a 10 x 10 yard area (One with One concept) Instructions: Coach/Adult working to provide side to side service to GK's. A) Side to side with GK on bum B) Side to side with GK on knees C) Side to side with GK in squat position. GK distribution back to server can be introduced & coached as well. Coaching Points: Diving: Body behind the ball, Body & hands to the ball, Body Shape Throwing: Eyes on target, Body Shape (open & balanced), Part of hand, Follow through ACTIVITY #3 Set up: Goalkeeping Relay. Groups of 3-5 GK's with 1 server (Coach/Adult) organized in files as shown. Instructions: On signal, Coach/Adult begins service to 1st GK. After save, GK throws ball back to server & spins out to back of line. 1st team to complete wins. Coach can change type of service for different types of races: A) Rolled ball B) ow (mid-area) C) Bouncy ball high Coaching Points: Handling: Body behind the ball, Attack the ball, Body Shape, Hand position, Meet ball at highest point Throwing: Eyes on target, Body shape (open & balanced), Part of hand, Follow through
