The No Poaching Rule applies to all Recreational Games U06 U10 In the spirit of developing players to the greatest of possible efficiency, has adopted a rule to restrict marking of boxes on goal kick tactics. The rule is designed promote escalated player development via more meaningful player touches in matches. It is also intended to reduce goals from goal kick scenarios. 1 On Goal Kicks, opposing players (defenders) must remain on their half of the field until the goal keeper has passed the ball AND the receiving player has touched the ball. Figure 1 - Proper Player Positions at Goal Kick If an opposing player crosses the halfway line before the receiving player touches the ball the goal kick will be retaken. Figure 2 - Poaching by Defender

The No Poaching Rule applies to all Recreational Games U06 U10 If the ball does not exit the penalty area before the receiving player touches the ball, the goal kick will be retaken. 2 Figure 3 - Ball Not In Play If the ball goes out of bounds across a touchline beyond the penalty area, the defending players will be awarded a throw-in where the ball went out of bounds. Figure 4 - Ball Not in Play - Retake Goal Kick

The No Poaching Rule applies to all Recreational Games U06 U10 3 Figure 5 - Ball in play - In touch - White Throw-In If the ball goes past the halfway line after the goalie passes it, the ball is in play and may be played by anyone. The offensive team has lost their privilege to play the ball first. Figure 6 - Ball in Play by anyone

The No Poaching Rule applies to all Recreational Games U06 U10 For Parents and Coaches has adopted a rule to promote escalated player development by via more meaningful player touches in matches. 4 Rationale for Change Due to many young players lacking the size and/or strength to accurately and pace-fully get the ball out of the box on goal kicks, it's been a standard at many games for opposing players to mark the box. We usually have two results of this behavior: Big Kick" to Clear the Ball Coaches (in possession of ball) have the goalie "smash" the ball away from their goal with varying degrees of success. All the players are now fighting for a 50/50 ball while facing in the same direction (toward the player taking the goal kick). This is of very little technical benefit to the big kick because most young players have not been trained to receive balls with elevated pace and height. An Easy Goal for the Poachers With all the players positioning for a 50/50 ball, there are as many attackers as defenders surrounding the penalty area. This more resembles boxing-out in a basketball game than soccer. In many cases the ball ping-pongs around and the opposing attackers (poachers) get an easy opportunity to score a goal. This tactic frequently results in elevated scoring and unbalanced results. Technical items worked EFFICIENTLY: 0 Technical items worked INEFFICIENTLY: 4 The no poaching rule promotes technical player development: (1) GK gets to work on hitting a ball with pace to 50/50 situations; (2) "offensive" players get to practice defense of the attacking poachers while the offensive players have possession of the ball; (3) both sides get to work on out of the air receiving of a ball with pace that ends up being in the upper body area, which they have not practiced receiving from, and usually ends up with a crying player who has been hit with the ball in the upper body; (4) finishing with no run of play. No Poaching Rule By requiring the opposing defenders to at midfield, coaches get to encourage and promote more meaningful touches on the ball. This helps develop the player's skills, confidence and enjoyment of the game with much greater efficiency. Players are not discouraged by losing the ball for multiple easy goals and the games are not lopsided,

The No Poaching Rule applies to all Recreational Games U06 U10 they are fun environments where parents cheer for good plays not massive scores. Rationale for Change The team in possession of the ball (taking the goal kick) now gets the following technical items worked EFFICIENTLY: 5 Passing. GK practices passing to a now open mate. Hopefully the receiving player has some practice passing as well. (1) Receiving. The player receiving the ball gets to practice receiving. (2) Head Up. The player receiving the ball gets to practice getting your head up, what do you see? Hopefully another open teammate. (3) Dribbling. In many cases, the player receiving the ball can receive it and take a few dribble touches before passing it or even now clearing the ball from a less threatened position. (4) Striking the Ball. The player receiving it can clear the ball from a less threatening position where there is not the fear of the poachers taking the ball and putting it in right in front of the goal. (5) Tactics. We know this is word with bad connotations, but positive tactics taught in the natural run of play are good. Coaches can set their players up in wide and central positions to best receive the ball. (6) Out of Pressure. This is a gold mine of situational soccer in being able to teach players to play the ball away from most pressure. (7) Technical and Tactical items worked EFFICIENTLY: 7 Technical items worked INEFFICIENTLY: 0 Referee Preparations NO POACHING Rule: On Goal Kicks opposing players (defenders) must remain on their half of the field until the goal keeper has passed the ball, AND the receiving player has touched the ball. Play is then live. Should an opposing player cross midfield before the player has received the ball, the play will be reset (as it is when a ball does not clear the goal box on goal kicks)

The No Poaching Rule applies to all Recreational Games U06 U10 No Poaching Rule In the spirit of developing players to the greatest of possible efficiency, has adopted a rule to restrict marking of boxes on goal kick tactics. The rule is designed promote escalated player development via more meaningful player touches in matches. It is also intended to reduce goals from goal kick scenarios. 6 The No Poaching Rule applies to all U06 - U10 recreational games. On Goal Kicks, opposing players (defenders) must remain on their half of the field until the goalie has passed the ball AND the receiving player has touched the ball. If an opposing player crosses the mid-line before the receiving player touches the ball the play will be reset. If the ball does not exit the penalty area before the receiving player touches the ball, the play will be reset. If the ball goes out of bounds, the defending players will be awarded a throw-in where the ball went out of bounds. If the ball goes past the mid-field line after the goalie passes it, the ball is live and may be played by anyone. The offensive team has lost their privilege to touch the ball first. Law XVI THE GOAL KICK (Modified Soccer Rules U06 to U10) 1. The No Poaching Rule will apply to Goal Kicks. All Defenders must remain behind the mid-field line until the ball is kicked and touched by the Offensive team outside the penalty area. 2. The goal kick may be taken from any point inside the goal area. 3. After the goal kick, no player may touch the ball until it leaves the penalty area. 4. If the ball does not exit the penalty area completely, the goal kick is re-taken.
