Head Master's BulletinPrep NewsJunior School News PDF Version SPORT 1st XI Blitz - Roberto Olles (12Ar) Football News On Saturday 24th March, the 1st XI and A teams participated in the 2nd CAS Blitz. Each CAS school (except St Aloysius ) hosted an age group and all teams played four modified games. Below are the reports from the trial games Vs Barker and from the CAS Blitz. CAS Blitz Reports - 24th March
1st XI Game 1 vs Knox With still a newly formed team, Trinity were looking forward to playing a few more games together against other CAS schools, providing small snippets of challenges to come in the season. Our first game of the day was against Knox Grammar at 8am. The game was intense throughout with some beautiful football played by both sides. Early chances were created by Sam York (11Hi) along with beautiful combination play between Jeremy Adams (12Fo) and Vasi Macmillan (12Ho) in midfield. The defence held strong, resisting the Knox attack. The game finished 0-0 and demonstrated a promising start for the Trinity 1st XI at the Blitz. Roberto Olles (12Ar) 1st XI Blitz - Sam York (11Hi) delivers a cross 1st XI Game 2 vs Barker The boys were hungry for a victory and came out with great enthusiasm, with good communication from Zac Lorusso (12He) and Darcy Edwards (12WJ). Kenneth Chu (11Mu) dominated in the midfield and there were amazing saves from Zac Kapatanellis (12Ke). Eventually Barker got the first and only goal. A great performance from everyone as we continue through the Blitz. We look forward to playing Barker in CAS. Gregory Kostoglou (11Sc) 1st XI Game 3 vs Cranbrook
Gregory Kostoglou (11Sc) organised the defence and made many amazing saves. Angus Clark (12WH) distributed the ball from the back four and into the midfield throughout the game. Jeremy Adams (12Fo) and Thomas Spratt (12Mu) relentlessly attacked Cranbrook at the front and on the wings. Kevin Cloke (11Du) and Nick Pizanias (12He) cleared many balls from the back as Cranbrook continually pressed down the sides. The final score was 0-1 in favour of Cranbrook, but the performance demonstrated the 1st XI's potential and ability. Alex Williams (11St) 1st XI Game 4 vs Waverley Trinity played against Waverley College for the final game of the Blitz. Captain Darcy Edwards (12WJ) maintained good shape at the back and was able to shut down Waverley s plays. In terms of offence, Trinity s first goal of the Blitz was produced as a result of great teamwork. Zac Lorusso (12He) made a brilliant run all the way from the midfield and finished a cross, provided by Jeremy Adams (12Fo), straight into the net. Trinity came out on top with the final score of 1-0. Jaeho Byun (12Fo) 10A Game 1 vs Knox Dangar Fields, the home of Cranbrook presented the Trinity men with four challenging games. Credit must not only go to the boys for representing the School in a tremendous fashion, but also coaches Mr Galluzzo and Mr Todd must be commended. Their ability to manage the team, giving all boys a fair run and ensuring that every boy enjoyed himself at every moment. Across the four games the team remained undefeated. An early goal from Mohammed Khamis (10We) off a corner was a brilliant way not only to start the game, but also to start the tournament. Throughout the entirety of the game, centre backs Joshua Yeoh (10Sc), Lewis Dobbin (10Du) and Lachlan Lee (10WH) consistently attempted to play out of the back under immense pressure. The score squared up just before halftime. After a constructive and positive half time team talk, the boys were more than ready to endure the pressure applied by Knox. Goal keeper Patrick Fouracre (10WH) has significantly improved over the years and he was saving shots from the opposition from all angles and distances. Patrick Fouracre (10WH) presented an imposing and dominating presence.. A strong defensive performance earned the Trinity team a deserved 1-1 draw in the opening fixture, although both teams had their chances to win the game. Yanni Plataniotis (10Sc)
10A Game 2 vs Cranbrook Trinity started strongly, with goal scoring opportunities created by Yanni Plataniotis (10Sc) and Lewis Dobbin (10Du) early in the match. These chances were not converted, though Trinity continued to keep control of the game. Late in the second half, Joshua Yeoh (10Sc) scored a magnificent longranged goal which was assisted by Lucas Kapetanellis (10Ke). This proved to be the deciding goal in the game, with Trinity winning the match 1-0. There were many great signs of chemistry and combination plays building from this game which were evident in the two remaining matches of the day. Steve Poulos (10Ta) 10A Game 3 vs Waverley The third game of the Blitz was played against a strong Waverley opposition. The game was competitive with both teams having numerous chances to put their side in front. Yanni Plataniotis (10Sc) scored a well placed penalty late in the first half to give Trinity a 1-0 lead. Accurate passing and quick movements created even more scoring opportunities but unfortunately, Waverley were able to counter attack and equalise the scoreline. Although not represented in the scoreline, Trinity did play good football and definitely improved from the previous game, with the hopes of continuing their form into the CAS season. Nicholas Bakopoulos (10Mu) 9A Game 1 vs Waverley The first game of this tournament was against a fierce opposition in Waverley. The first half was very difficult for Trinity, who were finding their feet after a tough loss to Barker the week before. Trinity started very sluggishly with the tall Waverley striker punishing us early. After the shock, Trinity regathered with Adam Pascale (9Ke) using his physicality and height to keep the Waverley striker out of the scorecard for a second time. After the half time break, Trinity started to get into the game. This resulted in a few chances on goal and some good passes, especially from James Petrakis (9Hi), who was controlling the midfield. This build-up of pressure resulted in a penalty given away by Waverley in the last minute. Christian Sinclair (9La) calmly slotted the ball into the top right-hand corner to earn Trinity a much deserved 1-1 draw. There were lots of positives to take out of the game and also some things to work on for the next game. Owen Hoffman (9WH) 9A Game 2 vs Barker Trinity played its second match of the four in the CAS blitz, against Barker College. There were some close opportunities up front with Christian Sinclair,
and some tight defence at the back with Adam Pascale (9Ke) and Owen Hoffman (9WH). Lucas Pezzano (9Fo) did a few amazing diving saves at goalkeeper to hold the score level. However, with a few minutes left, a fast Barker counterattack led to Trinity conceding a goal, with the final score being 0-1 to Barker. A close and strong performance from both teams. William Martin (9WH) 9A Game 3 vs Knox The boys came into the third game tired, but ready for a challenge against Knox. David Gabriel (9Hi) stepped in as goal keeper and did a fantastic job saving goals left, right and centre against a strong Knox forward line. Christian Sinclair (9La) did a good job on the wing, creating chances. Adam Pascale (9Ke) and Owen Hoffman (9WH) were strong and stubborn at the back, though this wasn t enough as Trinity went down 4-0 against Knox. 9A Game 4 vs Cranbrook Cranbrook were a tough match and provided a very good game. David Gabriel (9Hi) demonstrated his hidden talent of goalkeeping during this game. We conceded a goal in the first half. With a couple of minutes left to spare in the game, we received a penalty in the box and Rory Scott (9We) smashed it into the box to finish the game 1-1. Zach Gindy (9Ke) 8A Game 1 vs Knox First game was against Knox. Throughout the game Joshua Marcos (8Fo) was making great runs down the wings along with strong defence from Evan Alexiou (8Ta). The first and only goal came across when Biaggio Signorelli (8St) made a fantastic run when he was fouled. Then Isaac Cunningham (8He) took the free kick and scored the only goal. The game ended in a Trinity win 1-0 against Knox. Isaac Cunningham (8He) 8A Game 2 vs Cranbrook After a first-up victory, our second game was against Cranbrook. We started off slowly despite some excellent goalkeeping by Joshua Hanna (8Ho). He made great saves which kept us in the game. Towards the end of the first-half, we started to play football and we also began to create chances of our own. In the second half, we started strongly and we went one up through a goal by Sebastien Portolesi (8Ar). A few minutes later, we scored our second goal to go 2-0 up, thanks to a goal by Abbas Zahr (8Fo). This victory was an allaround team effort by all the players, who were playing together for the first
time. Sebastien Portolesi (8Ar) 8A Game 3 vs Waverley Sebastien Portolesi (8Ar) demonstrated an excellent performance as he scored an amazing goal outside of the 18 yard box, he also created many opportunities. James Adrinakos (8Yo) also played well, scoring a goal despite having an injury. Isaac Cunningham (8He) created multiple opportunities and dominated the midfield. Dominic Ticic (8Sc) 8A Game 4 vs Knox In our final game against Barker, Sebastien Portolesi (8Ar) and Isaac Cunningham (8He) started to take over the game by dominating the midfield and creating many chances which we couldn't capitalise on. Abbas Zahr (8Fo) created many quick plays down the wings and crossed some ball into the danger area. After two quick goals by the opposition attackers, Trinity did not put their heads down and continue to compete. In the end Barker won 0-3 but as a team we learnt from our mistakes and took many positives from this game, as we move into preparation for the start of the CAS Football season. Rupert Dobbin (8Du) 7A Blitz The boys who played in the Year 7 Football Blitz were provided with a fantastic opportunity not only to play some outstanding football but also to represent Trinity Football for the first time. Throughout the day teams across the CAS competed in the 7 a-side style tournament on TGS 2. Some inspired passages of play were seen across all four games with some remarkable results. Special mention should go to Harrison Hayward (7Yo) and Mac Liversidge (7WH) for there admirable efforts in a tough encounter against Waverly as well as Nicholas Stojkovic (7Ho) for his sportsmanship and leadership through the day. There were a number of positives from the day and there is plenty of anticipation and excitement leading in to CAS Round 1. Zac Galluzzo 7As Coach Tomorrow Trinity plays St Ignatius in trial games. This is the last Saturday commitment before the April holidays. Good luck to all teams. Luke Gray MIC and Director of Football Coaching
