1 2008 Santiago Canyon College MEN'S SOCCER NEWS/UPDATES December 11, 2008 Four Santiago Canyon College Players Earn Conference Honors Orange, CA Four member of the he Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men's soccer team earned honors for their play in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) in Sophomores Jack Plummer (Henry Court) and Alan Orriny (Esperanza) were named to the All-OEC First-Team, while sophomores Andrew Casco (Tesoro HS) and Tyler Petry (Edison HS) made the All-OEC Second-Team.Plummer led the team with eight goals in conference play and finished third with three assists. Orriny was solid in goal for the Hawks all season as he finished with 71 saves and a 0.93 goals against average. Petry finished conference play with three goals and two assists, while Casco was a standout for SCC defensively. November 14, 2008 Hawks Shutout Fullerton 2-0 in Final Orange Empire Conference Game soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat visiting Fullerton College 2-0 Friday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference game on the SCC Soccer Field. Freshman Peter Davis battles for a ball in SCC's 2-0 win over Fullerton. Freshman forward Aaron Meza (Trabuco Hills HS) gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second half as he finished a corner kick from sophomore Jack Plummer (Henry Court) with a header. Freshman James Villalobos (Orange HS) rouned out the scoring for SCC in the 63rd minute as he sent a header into the net after taking a freekick from freshman Anthony Anaya (El Modena HS). Sophomore goalkeeper Alan Orriny (Esperanza HS) made two saves for SCC in the shutout. Eduardo Gutierrez also finished with two saves for the Hornets in the loss.
2 November 11, 2008 Hawks Drop Conference Game to Riverside 2-1 soccer team dropped an Orange Empire Conferene (OEC) game to visiting Riverside Community College (RCC) 2-1 Tuesday afternoon on the SCC Soccer Field. Both teams had scoring chances in the first half, but RCC tallied first in the 38th minute with a goal by Arnulfo Sanchez on an assist from Dorian Farias. The score remained 1-0 until the 67th minute when Farias gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead as he finished a cross from Alberto Ramirez with a header. Members of the SCC men's soccer team line up to block a freekick in a 2-1 loss to Riverside. The Hawks answered 10 minutes later with a goal by freshman Steven Slater (Musselburgh Grammar) who finished a cross from freshman Brandon Cortez (Trabuco Hills HS) from close range. SCC had a great opportunity to tie the score with a few minutes remaining, but RCC held on for the 2-1 victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Alan Orriny (Esperanza HS) finished with five saves in goal for the Hawks, while Antoine Williams made four stops for the Tigers. Next: The Hawks host Fullerton College on Friday, Nov. 14 in their final OEC game of the season. Game time is set for 3 p.m. on the SCC Soccer Field. November 4, 2008 Hawks Defeat Irvine Valley 2-1 soccer team defeated visiting Irvine Valley College (IVC) 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conferene (OEC) game on the SCC Soccer Field. The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute as freshman forward Keith Wooley (Capistrano Valley HS) followed a shot from freshman Aaron Meza (Trabuco Hills HS) that deflected off the left goalpost. Sophomore Jack Plummer (Henry Court) gave SCC a 2-0 lead in the 41st minute as he drilled a shot from just inside the box past IVC goalkeeper Mikhail Radchuk. The Lasers (8-8-2, OEC) cut the lead in half in the 56th minute as Allen Villa found the net on a hard shot that went

Orriny finished with four saves for SCC, while Radchuk made three saves for IVC. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. October 24, 2008 Hawks Tie Orange Coast 1-1 soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against Orange Coast College (OCC) in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game Friday afternoon on the SCC Soccer Field. Sophomore Tyler Petry (Edison HS) led the Hawks with a goal in the first half as he finished a cross from freshman Peter Davis (St. Marks) with a header. Sophomore goalkeeper Alan Orriny (Esperanza HS) finished with five saves for SCC. Sophomore defender Ryan Carroll Kevin Fronk led the Pirates (7-7-2, OEC) with a goal just before halftime, while Brian Rippeto made three saves in goal. Next: The Hawks travel to take on Golden West College in an OEC game at 7 p.m. October 14, 2008 Davis Nets Three Goals in 6-1 Victory over Cypress College soccer team defeated visiting Cypress College 6-1 Tuesday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game on the SCC Soccer Field. Freshman forward Peter Davis (St. Marks) scored three times as the Hawks improved to in conference play and overall. Davis gave SCC a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute and later added two goals in the second half. Freshman Brandon Cortez (Trabuco Hills HS) finished with one goal and two assists for the Hawks, while Jack Plummer chipped in with one goal. Sophomore Tyler Petry (Edison HS) also picked up two assists for SCC. Kyle Gough scored on a freekick for Cypress in the 85th

Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. October 7, 2008 Villalobos Scores Two Goals to Lead SCC in Conference Dual with Santa Ana Orange, CA Freshman forward James Villalobos (Orange HS) scored two goals, including one in stoppage time, to lead the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie against visiting Santa Ana College (SAC) in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game at the SCC Soccer Field. The Hawks (2-4-5, OEC) fell behind 2-0 in the first fifteen minutes of the game after Richard Rivera and Samuel Morales each found the net for the Dons (8-3-2, OEC). Villalobos put SCC on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute as he finished from close range off a corner kick. The Dons held on to their 2-1 lead late into the second half until Villalobos was able to tie the game in stoppage time. Sophomore Tyler Petry (Edison HS) sent a ball in front off a throw-in that Villalobos was able to head over SAC goalkeeper Ivan Rodriguez. "It was great to get the tie against the top team in our conference," said SCC Head Coach Wade Fraser. "This is something to build on and hopefully we can ride the momentum as we head into the rest of our conference schedule." Sophomore goalkeeper Alan Orriny (Esperanza HS) finished with five saves for the Hawks, while Rodriguez made three stops for the Dons. Next: The Hawks will travel to take on Irvine Valley College on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Game time is schedule for 1 p.m.
5 October 3, 2008 Hawks Tie Golden West in OEC Game soccer team played to a 0-0 tie against visiting Golden West College Friday evening in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game on the SCC Soccer Field. Sophomore Jack Plummer takes a free kick duirng SCC's 0-0 tie against Golden West. Both teams had chances to break the tie late in the contest but were unable to find the net. Sophomore goalkeeper Alan Orriny made three saves for the Hawks (2-4-4, OEC) behind a solid performance from the defense. Brent Reis finished with five saves for the Rustlers (3-4-3, OEC). Next: The Hawks will host Santa Ana College on Tuesday, Oct. 7 in an conference showdown on the SCC Soccer Field. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. September 30, 2008 Plummer Leads SCC to 2-1 Victory over OCC in Conference Opener Costa Mesa, CA Sophomore midfielder Jack Plummer (Henry Court) scored two goals to lead the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Orange Coast College (OCC) in its Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opener Tuesday afternoon at the OCC Soccer Complex. Plummer found the net in the 17th and 89th minutes to give the Hawks (2-4-3, 1-0 OEC) the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Alan Orriny (Esperanza HS) made eight saves in the win for SCC, while sophomores Ryan Carroll (El Modena HS) and Anton Jamir (Cypress HS) each added an assist. Toshi Fujimura scored in the loss for the Pirates (4-5-0, 0-1 OEC). September 26, 2008 Hawks Play to 1-1 Draw against Long Beach City in Final Non-Conference Game soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against visiting Long Beach City College (LBCC) in a non-conference game Friday afternoon at the SCC Soccer Field.

LBCC took the lead in the 11th minute as Michael Pentland finished with a header to give the Vikings (7-0-3) a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Tyler Petry (Edison HS) answered for the Hawks (1-4-3) five minutes later with a header as he was on the end of a cross from sophomore Jack Plummer (Henry Court). Sophomore goalkeeper Allan Orriny (Esperanza HS) made two terrific saves in goal for SCC, including one just before halftime to keep the game tied. Orriny finished with six total saves on the day for the Hawks. Chris DeWalt made four saves in goal for the Vikings. Next: The Hawks will travel to Orange Coast College to battle the Pirates in their first Orange Empire Conference game of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Action is set to begin at 3 p.m. on the OCC Soccer Field. September 10, 2008 Santiago Canyon Plays to 1-1 Tie Against Moorpark College in Home Opener Orange, CA The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against visiting Moorpark College Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at the SCC Soccer Field. The Hawks (1-2-2) took the lead early in the second half as freshman midfielder Trevor White (Villa Park HS) finished from close range on an assist from freshman Aaron Meza (Trabuco Hills HS). SCC freshman Steven Slater (Musselburgh Grammar) later received his second yellow card in the 80th minute giving the Raiders a man advantage for the remainder of the game. Sophomore Andrew Casco jumps to make a play during SCC's 1-1 tie against Moorpark College. SCC held the lead until the 89th minute when Luis Gutierrez scored for Moorpark to tie the game moments before the end of regulation. Freshman goalkeeper Greg Griffin (Trabuco Hills HS) made five saves for SCC, while Barry Uko finished with three saves for Moorpark. Next: The Hawks will host Oxnard College on Friday, Sept. 19 at the SCC Soccer Field at 4 p.m.
7 Dec. 12, 2007 Six Members of the Santiago Canyon Men's Soccer Team Earn OEC Honors Orange, CA Six members of the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men s soccer team earned Orange Empire Conference (OEC) honors highlighted by freshman Carlos Chavez (Sunny Hills HS) who was named the conference s Most Valuable Player. Chavez, who played both offense and defense for the Hawks in 2007, finished the season with 12 goals and five assists. SCC midfielder Carlos Chavez SCC players earning First-Team All-OEC honors included sophomore Marco Casalinuovo (St. Elizabeth HS) and freshmen Tyler Petry (Edison HS) and Alan Orriny (Esperanza HS). Casalinuovo led the team offensively with 16 goals, while Orriny recorded 87 saves in goal for the Hawks. Petry finished the season with four goals and three assists. Sophomores Nathanial Muraki (Villa Park HS) and Garr Persson (Foothill HS) were named to the All-OEC Second- Team. Persson finished with six goals and seven assists, while Muraki led the SCC defense with his steady play throughout the season. Nov. 20, 2007 Santiago Canyon Men's Soccer Suffers Overtime Loss to Top-Seeded Mt. San Antonio in Second Round of Regional Playoffs Walnut, CA The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men s soccer team lost to top-seeded Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) 6-5 in overtime in the second round of the 2007 Southern California Regional Playoffs Tuesday evening at the Mt. SAC Soccer Field. The Hawks (No. 8-seed) finish their season with a overall record. The Mounties (21-0-2) took a 2-0 lead to begin the game before SCC freshman Tyler Petry (Edison HS) scored on a breakaway to make it 2-1 at the break. Sophomore Garr Persson (Foothill HS) later tied the game at 2-2 five minutes into the second half. Mt. SAC quickly made it a 4-2 contest, but SCC freshmen Carlos Chavez (Sunny Hills HS) and Eric Roman (Foothill HS) each found the net late in the contest to send the game into overtime.
8 The Mounties again took a two goal lead in the first overtime at 6-4. Sophomore Andrew Casco (Tesoro HS) scored on a corner kick five minutes into the second overtime, but it wasn't enough as SCC was eliminated from postseason play. SCC showed significant improvement this season under firstyear Head Coach Wade Fraser. The Hawks finished third in the Orange Empire Conference with an record and qualified for the playoffs for the first time in the history of the program. Nov. 17, 2007 Santiago Canyon Men's Soccer Defeats Southwestern on Penalty Kicks to Advance to Second Round of Playoffs Orange, CA The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) men s soccer team defeated Southwestern College 6-5 on penalty kicks in the first round of the 2007 Southern California Regional Playoffs Saturday afternoon at the SCC Soccer Field. The No. 8-seeded Hawks will next face top-seeded Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) on Tuesday, Nov. 20 in Walnut. With no score at the end of regulation, the Hawks (14-4-4) went up 1-0 in the first overtime as a corner kick by sophomore Marco Casalinuovo (St. Elizabeth HS) was knocked into the net by a Southwestern defender. The Jaguars (12-4-6) tied the game at 1-1 in the final seconds of the first overtime on an own goal to send the contest into the second 15 minute overtime. Neither team was able to break the tie in the second overtime sending the game into penalty kicks. After both squads made five of their first six penalty shots, sophomore Andrew Casco (Tesoro HS) beat Southwestern goalkeeper Jessy Martinez to give the Hawks a one shot advantage. Midfielder Oscar Ramirez was unable to score on SCC goalkeeper David Aguilar (Orange HS) on the seventh penalty shot for Southwestern giving the Hawks their first playoff victory in college history. Aguilar finished with five saves in goal for SCC, while Martinez made six saves in the loss for the No. 9-seeded Jaguars. The Hawks second round playoff game against the Mounties is schedule for 6 p.m. on the Mt. SAC Soccer Field.
