7 Below is an outline of what you need to do when running an event. Prior the Tournament On a small white board or large sheet of paper, write out the draw and where matches are being played so that on the day of the event, teams can see it. Get hold of a hooter or bell so that you can signal the beginning, half time and end of matches. This point is not essential as referees should be able to keep track of time. On Tournament Day Take a first aid kit. Assemble all teams, coaches and officials. Go over how the day will be run. Points to cover would be: where each field / court is remind teams each game has 5-minute halves with no halftime where toilets are where a copy of the draw is so that teams know where, who and when they are playing tell teams that only the top 2 teams in Year 7/8 and the top team in Year 5/6 will go to the inter-zones (except in netball where 2 teams in Year 5/6 will go through) how teams will be awarded points 3 for win, 2 for draw, 0 for loss what will happen in instance of a draw or tie. Remember to keep a record of what the scores in each match were so that in the case of 2 teams being tied for second place, you can go back and work out which team goes through to the inter-zones. Refer to the rules to your event in order to work this out. After Tournament Day Either on the afternoon of the event or the next day, can you please through to me the results for your day and where each team finished. When I receive all the results I will send to each school where each team finished in their competition. My address is tracy.inwood@beckenham.school.nz If you have further queries on what to do, please contact me and I will help you where I can. Regards, Tracy Inwood 7

8 (10-Aside) 1. All games will be played with 5-minute halves and no halftime between. 2. Standard rules for junior grade 10 a-side apply - 5 forwards and 5 backs maximum of 15 per team. 3. Kick offs are taken by the scoring team with a drop kick or punt. 4. Conversions are taken with a drop kick or punt in front of posts. They are worth 2 points. 5. There is no contesting in the scrums. The team that feeds in the ball to each scrum wins possession. There is contesting in the lineouts, although no lifting allowed. 6. If there is a penalty, the non-offending team must tap and pass. 7. Teams may be mixed. No requirement regarding the number of any one gender on the field at any one time. 8. Shoulder pads are permitted if they have IRB approved markings. This does not include rugby league pads. 12. Mouthguards MUST be worn. 13. If teams are tied for places in the sections, positions for play offs will be decided on: the team that has scored the most number of tries if positions are still tied, points differential will be taken - i.e. difference between points scored for and points scored against. 14. If teams are tied in quarter or semi finals the game continues until one team scores or until one team deliberately kicks the ball out or forces a 22 drop out. 8

Play shall re start with a goal kick. goal kicks to be taken from goal line, level with the goal. In the event of a draw the team with the most corners is awarded an extra goal (e.g 1 1 draw. Team A have been award 4 corners, team B have been awarded 2. Team A wins 2 1). This will determine a winner for each game with the emphasis on scoring goals. 7. All games are played on half senior or intermediate sized fields. 8. If teams are tied for places in pool play, a score differential will decide places, ie the difference between total goals scored and total goals scored conceded.
