They have really given us problems over the year s. (On Bernie Kozar) I thought Kozar did an excellent job. He made some throws we had to have down the field. (On the defense) I thought our defense did an excellent job. We had some problems, like what we had anticipated. Arpart from the ballgame, as far as the signaling, and as far as for some of thehandoffs and/ballhandling, we really did an excellent job overall, when you consider Bernie has onlyhad three practices with us. Like I say, we were happy to get the win and will be much improved next week. Then we will have to see if Troy is going to be able to jump back into practice next week. (On the pass rush) I thought we had a so-so pass rush. We have rushed the passer much better. I thought (Chris) Chandler did a good job dumping it off. (Was he more conservati ve on o ffense because of what the Cardinals were doing on defense?)well, we were just having a tough time getting the plays in there, much less trying to call everything. At times Nor.v (Turner, offensive coordinator) would think of something he wanted to run and couldn't find it on the sheet upstairs and he had to give me a number ratherthan a playbecause we couldn't signal it in. So we -missed some opportunities. We had the fumbled snap at center that cost us some points. like I said, against the Cardinals, we scored 17 points the last time we p3.ayed them. So you have to take advantage of every opportunity. Another thing is, we got dinged up. Kevin Williams got banged up and he was hobbled. And Emmitt Smith was really queazy in his stomach and really didn't feel at tip top form. In fact, he had an IV at halftime. And so he wasn't executing and perfonming like he normally performs. We you consider the injuries, and consider the shortness of time with the quarterback I am really happy to get the win. (More on Kozar) For him to come in and just have three practices and go out and and execute the offeense and the various formations...you know, we've got a lot of offense. And he tried to execute a big portion of it. To have all that spinning through his head and still be able to drop back and throw those crossing routes to Michael Irvin and do the things he did, I gotta commend him. He worked very hard at it. I also commend Norv Turner. He did an excellent job and spent extra time in making a cram course, and it's something we needed to get the victory. (On reason for bringing Jason Garrett back in near the end of the first half) Well, Bernie had not worked on our two-minute offense. If had got the balll in good field position we were going to run the two-minute offense. And like I said, Bernie has not run the two-minute offense, doesn't even know the play numbers we use in a hurry-up type offense. (On the use of both Garrett and Kozar) Yeah, I was just goi ng to kind of play it by ear. I told both Bernie and Jason that I was probably going to go back and forth between the two ofthem, depending upon the situation.

And so after wathcing the first couple of series I felt like it was time to put Bernie in there and let him try to do some things down the field, which Me did. If Troy is unable to go next week it is going to be the same situation as far as jostling the quarterbacks back and forth. Bernie Kozar is our backup quarterback, and Troy Aikman is our starting quarterback. (On Jason Garrett) Jason did a good job. I thought he did a good job. He didn't have a lot of opportunities, but he did a good job. (Whye he started Garrett onver Kozar) Well, we were a little concerned aboutthe cadence, concerend about getting some penalaties, the ballhandling and the signalling, and I wanted the other 10 players be comfortable. As I said the last couple of days I wasn't concerend about Bernie Kozar. I was concerned about the other 10 pffsnsive players being able to play at 100 percent and if they were trying to hold back inj their stance, or if they were tenative in their blocks, if they were tenative in running their routes, tenative with the play calling, then they were not going toobe at full speed and we weren't going to be able to peerform. So I wanted so I wanted to start the ballgame off with those 10 players and then bring Bernie in off thebench. (On the penalyties) Theese are problems were going to cointinue to have as long as I am coaching the game. As long as we get the wins at the end of the ballgames, I will deal with what minor problems we might have."

What I did wasget free a couple of times and tried to get in his face and distract him and he made a couple of bad throws. When ever people play the Cowboys, they try to play their best. That's one thing we preached all week.

I just trid to be ready to play on any series. anticipated he' d play a lot a nd I understood we'd be jocking during the game. I'Fretty good with my mindset, very similar to a relief pitchers mentality. With using the wristband, Bernie did a great job. I'm always prepared b/c that's my mindset as a backup QB. Being as bright and experienced as Bernie is really helped. I knew I would start Friday morning-- it could have been one series or 4-5, it j ust depended on the f low cf the game. Jay Novacek - We hive been running that play for three years n practice, and never 1XXMNXIX have they thbown it to me in a game Emmitt Smith - I have been battling a cold all week c oming in 10 today...that's why I got caught on the big play. We did a lot 45-irl things that if we do in the future we will get beat. We didn't exere like we should have. For a minute we thought we k d the game in hand Jason ran the offense fine. Bernie Kosar -It was a really tough week to get ready...you can really say what a difference a week can make. My teammates and thhoachesmade it really easy on me and very east to be successful. My timing with the snap and my ball handling were a little off. That!3 whlat got me in trouble. I can't thank troy and jason enough for all their help during the week, I just can't say enough, things are stil new for me and Troy is the starter so if he' s healthy he will p lay ad I' 11 be heppy to turn this great team over to him. I put pressure ortd, myself to learn as may plays as I could to take the burden off the other 10 guys that were out there with me. Norv Turner - Mt sure wasn't horrible or anytheing, I kd nightmares that it would be a lot worse.
