Many thanks to all staff who helped out and supported on what was a fun day for all pupils!
3 ABU DHABI SCHOOLS JUNIOR AQUATHON SUCCESS FOR BRIGHTON! On Saturday 28 th November, over 40 Brighton pupils woke up before sunrise and headed to the Emirates Palace marina, where the first of the Junior Aquathon series was being held. In a variety of races, competitors completed an open water swim from m and finished with a m run (including a final 100m finish through the sand on the beach). Overall, Brighton finished 2 nd in the team competition. BRIGHTON TEAMS IN ADISSA END OF SEASON TOURNAMENTS! All Brighton teams have started well in the ADISSA tournaments that commenced this week and will conclude on Friday with the ADISSA Netball at ZSC full results will be posted next week. There has already been a huge amount of drama, excitement and success from all our teams Last week saw the U19 Boys Football finish 4 th in a close competition. This week, the U11A Girls Football battled to the final of their tournament where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by GEMS Cambridge (see below for match report). The U12A Boys Football failed to reach the semi-finals after losing narrowly in 2 of their 3 group games to finish 5 th overall. Similarly, the U12B Boys Football narrowly missed out on a semi-final place despite a win and a draw in their group games eventually finishing 5 th overall with a 3-1 win over Cranleigh. The U16 Boys Football managed 4 th place in their event.
4 TEAM OF THE WEEK: ADISSA U11/U9 TOUCH RUGBY TEAMS The U9 A and B team had their final rugby outing of the term at the end of season tournament at Cranleigh. The B team narrowly lost their first game to Yasmina before beating Mushrif, following strong performances from Kaspar Hawke, Anton Norin and Florence Chambers. They then played against a very strong BISAD side in the semi-final and, despite a battling display, lost out two tries to nil. Getting to the semi-final is a fantastic achievement and the players can be very proud of themselves. The U9 A team went unbeaten in their group matches, narrowly beating Yasmina before more comfortable victories against Mushrif and Raha. They then came up against BISAD in the semi-final and gave the performance of the season as they won by two tries! One brilliant passing move saw the ball travel to both sides of the pitch before Charlotte Middlehurst touched down in the corner. The final was a tight affair against Cranleigh and after full time the score was 0-0. Extra time was to be played with the first team to score crowned as the winners. Brighton held on for a couple of minutes before gaining possession. Adam Stander went on a blistering run which created space for Tom Nesbitt who beat the last defender and scored in the corner, to the delight of his teammates. The whole team played brilliantly throughout the afternoon and the win was no less than they deserved! Mr T Southall Under 11 Touch Rugby results: U11A Group Games Yas A v Brighton A: 1, 0 Mushriff A v Brighton A: 1, 2 BISAD A v Brighton A: 0, 0 U11B Group Games Raha B v Brighton B: 0, 3 GEMS Cam v Brighton B: 0, 1 BISAD B v Brighton B: 0, 1 Semi Finals Al Muna v Brighton B: 0, 1 (sudden death) Finals BSAK v Brighton B: 1, 0 (sudden death)
5 MATCH REPORT: ADISSA U11A GIRLS FOOTBALL BRIGHTON COLLEGE On Sunday 6 th December, 8 schools battled it out for the title of ADISSA U11 Girls Champions. The Brighton team started strongly, proving hard to beat with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Al Mushrif, a hard fought 0-0 draw with Cranleigh and a tense 1-0 win over BISAD to put them into the semifinals as group winners. In the semi-final, Brighton faced strong favourites BSAK and despite defending for the majority of the game, managed to finish the game 0-0 and moved into extra time. The entire Brighton team tackled tirelessly and some outstanding saves from Alicia in goal kept Brighton s hopes alive. The resulting penalty shoot-out saw Brighton emerge as nail-biting 3-2 winners, with Maria Ines scoring the winning kick at the second attempt. In the final, Brighton faced GEMS Cambridge, and despite a very even start to the game, GEMS took an early lead after a rare missed tackle in defence. Brighton responded strongly with several chances to level the game but time ran out and the title drifted away from Brighton to finish a very respectable 2 nd place overall. Well done to the entire squad the improvement and commitment over the entire term has been wonderful to see. The effort and team spirit on the day was quite breath-taking it will be sad to see the season end! Mr M Deegan
