Pre-Game Setup Pre-Game Setup Read-Only GSIS The role check has been removed from the read-only version of GSIS (GSIS_nomsmq.exe, shortcut name View Historical Games ). This version will now start under any user that can log into the local machine. GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 1

Game Play Game Play Attribute Change Play Validation Inactive Player Check The formation attribute has two additional values: No Huddle and No Huddle, Shotgun. The performance of the Find Plays screen has been improved. Auditors should be able to keep this screen open to watch for flags, errors, and warnings throughout the game with no slow down to performance. After each update to a player attribute, the system will check if the player is listed with an inactive status (Not Active, Injured, Reserve, Did Not Play and Injured - Did not play). This check works in the same fashion as the check for an invalid jersey number. Selecting Yes to the prompt will allow the entry to go through, selecting no will prevent the attribute from being updated. If you select Yes, the player s status should be changed to Played. This warning is only displayed to the user that entered the inactive player s jersey number. Punt Yardage Calculation The length of the punt will now be displayed as soon as it can be calculated. GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 2

Game Play Usually, this will occur before the play is ended. The intent is to enable the user to quickly spot wrong side of the field errors, before statistics on the play are calculated and released to external partners. The tooltip automatically hides after any form of input (changing the active play or attribute, entering a new value for an attribute, etc.) GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 3

Game Play Quarterback Spikes A new attribute has been added to the Pass Incompletion (INC) event named QB Spike. This attribute can have a value of True or False. When it s true, the play by play text for the play changes from: J.Montana pass incomplete. To J.Montana spikes the ball to stop the clock. The value of the QB Spike attribute does not affect the calculation of statistics for the play. GSIS will not allow you to say that an illegal incomplete forward pass is a spiked ball. Half Sacks If the Split Tackle attribute is set to Assist & Assist (Half Sacks) (AA), Assist & Tackle (Half Sacks) (HAT), or Tackle & Assist (Half Sacks) (HTA), the play by play will state that the sack was split between the two defenders: J.Montana sacked at the SF 20 for -5 yards (sack split by J.Abraham and J.Smith). The play by play will no longer indicate through punctuation which defenders were awarded assists and tackles, but the statistics still will get credited appropriately. Elias expressed skepticism over the idea of splitting a sack between two defenders, and awarding one defender a full tackle and the other only an assist. Please evaluate this very carefully, in most cases, the Assist & Assist (Half Sacks) (AA) Split Tackle type should be used when you want to award half sacks to two defenders. Game Clock The game clock has been added to the Section bar. It s visible on every laptop. If one laptop in the network has a functioning game clock interface, it will relay the clock signal to the other laptops. The game clock value is normally black. If it turns red, then a signal from the game clock has not been received in the last 10 GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 4

Game Play seconds. You should contact the stadium technician for assistance when this happens. GSIS will use the relayed clock signal value when the F11 key is pressed if the laptop doesn t have a short haul modem connected to it. If no laptop has a functioning game clock interface, the prompt to enter the start time will appear when the F11 key is pressed. GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 5

Statistical Calculation Change Statistical Calculation Change Reception Yardage A s ball, First-and-10 at the A20. A-7 throws a forward pass at the A after a Lateral behind 16, which is tipped by B-90. A-74 catches the ball at the A 18, and the Line of Scrimmage laterals the ball back to A-87. A-87 catches the lateral at the A 15, and runs out of bounds at the A 25. In GSIS 3.1, A-87 gets credit for 5 receiving yards, and 0 receptions. A-74 gets credit for 1 reception, and 0 receiving yards. A-7 gets credit for 1 pass completion and 5 passing yards. In previous versions of GSIS, A-87 would get credit for 10 receiving yards, and A-74 would get credit for -5 receiving yards. Elias changed how receiving yardage after a lateral behind the line of scrimmage is calculated during the 2002 season to make scoring of this play consistent with how lateral yardage is calculated on rushing plays. GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 6

Report Changes Report Changes Game Summary Report Individual Statistics Report The Back Judge now follows the Side Judge in the list of officials. 1. The Team Totals rows in the Passing section will now show the Quarterback Rating for each team. 2. Net Punting Average has been added as a column to each team s individual Punting section. 3. Lost Fumbles has been added as a column to each team s individual Fumbles listing. The value in this column is the number of fumbles a player had that were recovered by the opposing team. Drive Chart Report Play by Play Report All onside kicks, and kickoffs that end a half are now excluded from the Average Team Drive Start calculation unless they are returned for a touchdown. A new option has been added to the Play by Play report that will prepend the Start Time of Day to each play. A sample play s text with this option checked is: (17:23:45) (12:22) J.Montana pass incomplete. The play by play report with time of day is intended for the home GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 7

Report Changes club s video operations department. The scoreboard people would then use this version of the play by play to search game tape by time code, which is easier for them than using the current play by play text. The stat crews would not be responsible for delivering this copy to the scoreboard or video operations rooms. A person from the stadium s video operations group would have to come to the stats area at the end of the game to request and pickup a copy. The play by play report with time of day should not be distributed to the media in the press box as part of the gamebook, or faxed to Elias. GSIS 3.1 Release Notes 8
