The theme of their assembly was sustainability, which they had linked to The Lorax by Dr Seuss. International Food Fair On Saturday 25 th February, the school will be holding an International Food Far in the main school hall. The event is free to enter and will run from , with music, drinks and entertainment. There will be a variety of food on sale, with plates available for 2.50 (pre-sale) and 4.00 on the day. Our children will be providing the entertainment at this event. We ll have classical Indian dancing and some musical performances. Some children have already volunteered to do this but we can fit in a few more. So, if your child plays an instrument and would like to perform at our International Food Fair, please get in touch with Cath Martindale Uniform Over the course of this term, I have noticed a real slip in the standard of school uniform. This is something that we will be looking at after half term, but I would like to remind parents of certain items that are not appropriate school uniform. Trainers. Tracksuit bottoms. Large bows (or novelty hairbands). Boots. If you are unclear of what is or is not appropriate, please ask your child s class teacher.

Osidge Library Closure Due to the imminent closure of the library, I would like to inform parents that the gate from the car park to the school will be locked until the library reopens. There will also be reduced parking within the car park, so parents may wish to look at alternative arrangements to avoid congestion and chaos! PTA Event Thank you to everybody who helped to support this new event. The PTA was keen to try something different and so it was great to see the children have so much fun! Hall Hire A reminder to parents that the school s facilities are available for hire - please see Mrs Nash for further details. Mr Reisman s Clubs: On the week returning to school after half term there will be no Monday morning run club and no Tag rugby club after school on Tuesday 21st All other clubs will run as usual. Sports news Monday Football v Akiva On Monday 6th February, Brunswick Park boys finally recorded a league victory against Akiva in a thrilling encounter at Power League, Friern Barnet. Brunswick Park were up for it from the first whistle, early pressure gave them a goal lead through a deflected Konstantin effort. Akiva however fought back straight away as they intercepted a goal kick and put it into the empty net. This time it was Brunswick Park s turn to reply. Moments later Alban struck the ball in from an a great Archie cross just inside the box to give them a 2-1lead. Brunswick Park then extend the lead through a Jediah strike after a mazy run, it was looking like they were cruising as Luca and Omar seemed confident at the back with some of the passing moves on offer, which were a joy to watch for the fans despite lacking the finishing touches. As their energy levels started to dip, Akiva struck back before half time leaving the score at 3-2 despite Brunswick s dominance. In the second half, Brunswick Park, who seemed affected by that late goal started poorly, as they let Akiva back into the game? 2 early strikes for the Akiva allowed them to take the lead for the first time in the game. However this time the team did not crumble. Konstantin, who was captaining the team for the second time, showed some great energy levels to drive the team forward, Jediah and Archie were determined to turn the game round. As we approached the last quarter Jediah flipped the game on its head with a dipping half volley from just in front of the half way line. This goal inspired the team as they started to play some beautiful football once again with Archie netting his first goal for the school to put them 5-4 ahead. Akiva tried to get one back but Nathan who had come on at half time was now dominating the Brunswick Park half and would not let anyone pass. As we moved into the final 5 minutes, Konstantin, who had been everywhere, ran onto a ball on the edge of the area

and drove it into the back of the net. 6-4 to Brunswick Park, they could see the victory was close. Although time was about to run out, nerves started to set in and Brunswick could no longer keep hold of the ball. As the boys struggled, the visitors managed to squeeze one in through Brunswick s tight defense but it was not enough. The final whistle went and to the team s great relief, they had won the thrilling encounter 6-5. A fantastic performance, with a deserved win for the school. Team: Djed, Luca, Omar, Konstantin(C) 2, Alban 1, Jediah 2, Archie 1, Nathan, Kyan Year 5 Football On Wednesday 8th February, The year 5 boys returned to Power League to take part in the football tournament which they did so well in the previous year, finishing runners up. Last year after this they then went on to win the Best of Barnet competition, so they were hoping for a repeat of their success. However, it was always going to be difficult handling the pressure after their very own Leicester City story the previous year, this was made even harder with the absence of goalkeeper Redmond, but this the boys gave it everything they had. In the group stages the team picked up where they left off. Despite facing an extremely good Akiva team in the first game and not playing too well, after going 1-0 behind. They managed to find a way to win 2-1 and immediately built their belief once again. This performance was followed by 2 dominant results in the group. A glut of goals form Konstantin, Jediah and Archie led to a 5-1 destruction of St Theresa s followed by a 3-0 victory over Queenswell. This meant Brunswick had stormed to the top of the group going through to face St Johns in the quarter finals. Once again the boys power and finishing were too much too handle. Great pressing and teamwork led to another convincing 4-0 win. The defense of Nathan, Kai and Kyan were looking more solid each game, limiting the amount of attacks, while Mital, who was filling in in goal, had made some important saves. In the semifinals Brunswick Park faced Summerside, the tournament favourites. It started off as a close encounter but a long range half volley from the Summerside winger swerved into the top corner to make the vital breakthrough. Once behind, it was difficult for Brunswick Park. Archie and Jediah showed some great battling skills but Summerside were a strong and well organised. As Brunswick pushed for the equaliser, they got caught out on the counter attack and their striker was free to tap in at the far post. Brunswick kept pushing and struck back as Konstantin dinked the bell in coolly from the edge of the area evading the incoming challenge. Was the great comeback on? Unfortunately, this time it was not to be. Summerside replied straight from the kick off, firing a powerful effort through 3 bodies and into the net. Not enough time remained to get back again and the final whistle eventually went sending Brunswick Park out of the competition. Summerside went to win the tournament while Brunswick Park finished in 4th. Despite not receiving a medal, the boys were magnanimous in defeat. They showed brilliant sportsmanship and displayed how to lose with class, as although they were devastated by the result, they clapped and congratulated the winners and runners up at the medal ceremony. It truly showed their character and what wonderful children they are growing up to be. Despite not winning the tournament, reaching the Semi Finals means they will return on March 1st to defend their trophy and title of Best in Barnet. They

boys are looking forward to giving it a go again and whatever happens have made the school and Mr Reisman extremely proud. Squad: Konstantin (C) Kai, Kyan, Mital(GK), Nathan, Jediah, Archie Netball On Wednesday evening Brunswick Park faced local rivals Churchill in their penultimate netball game. After some great performances that lacked a win after conceding late points, Brunswick Park were determined to get the win. I just want to win stated a focused George before the game. However, the game did not start well in the first quarter a lack of movement and concentration with marking allowed Churchill a number of chances, while sloppy passing stopped Brunswick Park from getting the ball in the danger areas. As a result, Brunswick found themselves 2-0 down and now had an uphill struggle on their hands. In the second quarter, after a quick team meeting the team seemed much more confident, moving the ball well and dominating the play. The effective marking meant Churchill were pinned back in their own defensive third, eventually managing to pull one back as Serena scored after some great passing play with Paula. As the girls continued to win the ball high up the court Serena scored a second. The score was 2-2 at half time. The dominance continued in the next quarter and once again Brunswick Park scored a point through Kerthika and another through George to set up a tense final quarter. This time the team were determined to go home with all the points, but Churchill s star shooter was rotated back into the scoring position which meant Brunswick Park s defending had to be perfect. At this vital moment the teams marking was the best it has ever been, George and Kerthika showed brilliant awareness and aggression cutting out every ball and followed their opponents wherever they went. Some excellent fast play allowed Brunswick Park to move the ball up the court and catch out their opponents. An excellent pass allowed Kerlel and Oliver to keep the ball in the Churchill half of the court and see the team through to victory. A fantastic performance and deserved 4-2 victory.

The team has shown huge improvements, looking better every time they play. The final game will be against Monkfrith, this will be at Brunswick Park school on Tuesday 28th February. If the team wins they have the chance of finishing in the top 2. This will be the first Netball match staged at Brunswick Park in the last 8 years and should be a celebration of how well the team has done in their first ever entry into the league. If you can, please come and support them and make it a memorable day. Team: Savina, Serena, Kerthika, Kerlel, Paula, George, Oliver
