7 Player Equipment No Jewellery! No casts No hard brimmed hats (or toques) Thermal gear ok under uniform Goal keeper should have a different coloured jersey than rest of team AND different from other team colour, and goal keeper colour FIVE COLOURS on the field

9 Substitutions Allowed on the fly or at any stoppage Technically Occurs at hallway line with players exiting (or within 1 metre of touchline) BEFORE new players enter the field of play Goal keepers sub at a stoppage in play. What we see Occurs anywhere on the touchline, substitutes entering before players exit, too many or few players Game management in reality = WORK TOGETHER Players close to touchline or off field BEFORE new players ON! Goal Keepers sub at a stoppage in play. Coaches be ready and ensure players are within 1 metre of touchline or OFF the field BEFORE substitutes enter Referees keep an eye on substitutions on the fly and an ear open for substitution requests during stoppages Location between team bench and the halfway line

10 Bench Bench Substitutions Substitutes enter the field of play from the centre of the field, exiting player must be off before entry

11 4-up-1-up Applies to U8-U12 games 4 goals up = add 1 player If a team leads by 8, add 2 players to losing team Once score differential is less than 4 remove 1

12 4-up-1-up Score 4-0 = 1 player is added to the field Score goes to 4-1 = additional player is removed Score 8-0 = 2 additional players added to the field Score foes to 7-1 = only 1 additional player is on the field Applicable ages: U8, U9, U10, U11, U12

13 For half field games the retreat line is in effect. Retreat Line (U8-U12) Opposing players must be in their own half on a goal kick or goal keeper save Ball is in play once it has been touched by a teammate, crossed the retreat line or gone out of play HALFWAY LINE HOW DO WE MANAGE THIS?

17 Fouls Push Trip Hold Slide tackle FOR HALF FIELD GAMES If a player continues to commit fouls (or slides), ask coach to replace and explain what they have done wrong. Use of voice

18 Handballs Handling offence occurs when there is a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball using their hand or arm Consideration for Deliberate Movement of hand Distance Speed Natural position Taking a risk

19 Sanctions only for U11 and up Yellow card = 2 minute time penalty (the team will play short) Red card = 5 minute time penalty (the team will play short) Player that is dismissed MUST leave the facility (if U18 can sit with spectators) Another player serves the time penalty A SLIDE TACKLE must be cautioned! Time is controlled by referee

20 Slide Tackle vs Sliding Slide tackle or lunging: challenging an opponent for the ball Sliding: sliding for a ball that is not in the vicinity of an opponent SLIDE TACKLE = YELLOW CARD

21 Injury Management Play will not stop for all injuries especially if goal scoring opportunity Immediately stop for serious injury or head injury Game management If minor injury have a second look to check, and stop play if needed. With younger age groups more likely to stop play for minor injuries right away SAFETY, FAIRNESS AND FUN

22 Game Management Use your tools (be proactive) Voice, signals, whistle Discourage rough play proactively using voice Be a leader on the field State decisions Explain decisions Help with restarts ball placement, direct vs indirect, etc Teamwork with coaches Answer questions, provide support
