Another term has seen many more fixtures our Netball and Football leagues have all been concluded. Details of venues/ times will be confirmed later This term we have had over 1800 participants at our extra curricular clubs before and after school.. During lunch times we have sport development clubs which has seen nearly 700 participants this term. #hardworkwillpayoff We have raised a staggering 558 so far from the Coop causes which is amazing, the funding is open till the end of the academic year so please make sure you get your membership cards (they are only 1) and register. Congratulations to Zak O Keefe and Kaysy Haslen who have recently signed their first contracts with Southend United Academy and Arsenal Ladies. We wish Zak and Kaysey all the luck on their football adventure.

3/4 Sports Hall Athletics Our first event of the year saw us visit Basildon Sporting village to compete in the Sports Hall athletics competition against 13 other schools from around Thurrock.

The team performed fantastic on the track and consistently finished in the top 3 of their heats, however in the field events we were not as strong but we still finished a very creditable 7th place considering our team was made up of mainly year 4 pupils, the team should be fighting for medals next year. 5/6 Boys Football CHAMPIONS The football team have had a slow start to the season, exiting both the SSP and Essex Cups early. The boys have turned their focus towards both League and Cup competitions. In which they have made fantastic progress and have continued to impress, after some tough cup fixtures which resulted in our Goalkeeper Jay being man of the match for his performances in two consecutive penalty shootouts the boys played Bonnygate in the cup final, unfortunately luck was not with us that night and despite dominating the game the boys couldn't find an equaliser and lost 2-1. However just 4 days later the boys put that disappointment aside and faced undefeated Corringham in an all or nothing league decider, the boys quickly racked up a 3-0 lead and with Corringham stunned the team continued to control the game and have finished the season as champions playing 8 league games and dropping just 3 points. We were successful with a bid via Active Essex receiving 400 that will be going towards some new Netball Bibs and kit. T H E S P O R T I N G C H A N C E We are very pleased to have Hayley McClean who will become our This Girl Can ambassador., to help inspire the next generation of sportswomen.

The girls have continued to improve and perform well in the league. The girls will finish 3rd in their group once the last result is recorded.

3 P A G E 3 5/6 Girls Football Our girls football club is the fastest growing club at Giffards and we now regularly have 20 girls attending. This is the second year we have entered the girls in to competitions in the SSP. The Girls advanced out of their group and finished a brilliant 6th place. The girls have continued to improve and perform well in the league. The girls will finish 3rd in their group once the last result is recorded. The girls entered the B team competition this year and won both of they games in the final 2-0 and 1-0 to claim the first football silverware of the season Medal Table The Thurrock School Partnership run competitions for all age groups throughout the year, every event participated in the school receives 10 points, 25 points if your school finishes third, 50 points for second and an extra 100 points for finishing 1st. We currently sit 5th in the table but with a number of events left we have every chance of breaking into the top 3. Netball This year we have entered the netball leagues for the first time, we are only one of three schools in Thurrock that have managed to have two teams in the League. The girls, who are made up of year 5 and 6, have never played prior to this year and have been committed to training every Thursday since we came back in September. Their progress has been sensational Despite neither team recording their first victory yet, the girls have continued to improve every game and are a pleasure to have represent the school win, lose or draw, in the rain or in the heavy rain and hailstones the girls have maintained a fantastic attitude and commitment to the sport.

Hockey Another new event for this year was Hockey, on an extremely cold afternoon unfortunately, with no year 6 s available we took a mix of year 4 and 5.

Despite this the boys remained in high spirits and the experience of this year will be highly beneficial. We re looking forward to next years competition.

The boys battled hard against their bigger and older opposition and exited the group stage on a controversial late goal. Despite this the boys remained in high spirits and the experience of this year will be highly beneficial. We re looking forward to next years competition. Boccia A new event on the SSP calendar this year was Boccia, which is very similar to French Boules We took three teams over to William Edwards for this event. All three teams enjoyed themselves and by the end were experts on the new game. Our year 4 team went out in their group along with our first year 5 team who were very unlucky not to make the semi finals. The second year 5 team played 6 games and kept a 100% record throughout, wining both a very tight semi finals and then the finals by a single point to claim the yellow army's first gold of the academic year.

Runners up Boys Football Giffards primary school over the course of 2017 and 2018 have played very well. We have finished 1st in the league and have come runners up in the cup.

KS2 Cross Country 3rd Place 5/6 Tag Rugby 3rd Place 5/6 Basketball 2nd Place 5/6 Dodgeball 3rd Place Boccia 1st Thurrock Schools Girls Football B team Cup Winners Thurrock Schools Boys Football Cup Runners up Boys Football Giffards primary school over the course of 2017 and 2018 have played very well. We have finished 1st in the league and have come runners up in the cup. After losing the cup we have become more determined to win the league. Giffards played Corringham on Friday beating them 3-0. Tonight we play St Josephs knowing that a win will win us the league. Thurrock Schools Boys Football Eastern league Winners Girls Football The girls won the cup at lakeside sports ground in our last match and played very well. All year the girls have worked so hard and put in so much effort which really impacted on our games against other schools. We have done amazing all year and we all enjoy playing T H E S P O R T I N G C H A N C E

P A G E 7 Year 6 Netball This season the year 6 netball team played numerous netball matches but sadly we have not won any. Fortunately we tied against Woodside.

We have had many player of the matches which includes myself, Lily C, Kayley, Sophie and Lily D.

We have a netball training club which is held on a Thursday lunchtime most children try their best to attend the club. We have had many player of the matches which includes myself, Lily C, Kayley, Sophie and Lily D. Year 5 Netball This year the girls netball team did extremely well, we did lose a few times but otherwise we enjoyed it. We lost to Harris and Thameside but beat Bonnygate and drew with Graham James in the other games. In the future we would like to become a much stronger and better netball team.

Morning clubs: Children must come to school wearing clothes that are appropriate to exercise in (ideally not PE kit) and trainers.

After school clubs: Children must bring a change of clothes (ideally not PE kit) and trainers to change into after school. Please ensure these clothes are appropriate for exercising in.

For all KS2 after school A reminder that we are one of the Co-Op causes for the remainder of the academic year. You can get your membership form from reception.

Once you have a card every time you make a purchase 1% goes towards the PE department which will be spent on new sports equipment such as coats and tracksuits to be supplied to our children during events and fixtures. If you have any old school yellow fleeces that are not needed any more please could you donate them to PE as we would like to use these for sporting events for when the weather is cold. A BIG Thank you Thank you to all the parents who give so freely of their time to transport pupils to and from Games/ events. We couldn t do it with out you. Your support and help is much appreciated. Help- PE Kit Wanted If you have any old PE kit or trainers that you no longer need we would be very grateful for them for spare kit.
