BASIN UNITED VALUES AND CORE BELIEFS page 2 ABOUT RECREATION SOCCER The Recreational Soccer program at Basin United is one of the largest youth sports in the Klamath Basin. The Spring 2016 season served over 950 players, 80 coaches, 50 referees, and countless family members and spectators. The goal of the Recreational Program is to make soccer available to ALL whom want to play. We provide equal opportunity for players and have financial assistance available for our under-served families. The two main seasons of Recreation Soccer are the Fall and Spring. During these months our traditional program features teams competing against their peers in weekly games. In the offseason we offer training camps, development academies, and drop-in sessions. Sportsmanship: All Coaches are required to teach their players and encourage their families to display good sportsmanship. This includes but is not limited to: Respecting Coaches and Referees Encouraging teammates Using appropriate language Lending a hand when needed Cheering for the other team Avoiding overt or unnecessary physical play Celebrating with humility High-fiving or shaking the hands of the opponent after each game Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their players, assistant coaches, parents, and spectators. Any person not adhering to our code of conduct will be asked to remove themselves from the facility. Please remember, winning should not be the goal of any team at this level. Focus instead on building fundamental skills, bolstering self-esteem and teaching your young players how to interact with other children appropriately during game play. Our players look to our coaches for constructive feedback and outstanding role-modeling. If you would like assistance in learning new approaches to positively engage your team, please contact our Director of Youth Programs. Every player is entitled to playing time. Coaches who are unable to meet these standards as determined by our Director of Youth Programs, will be immediately removed from their position and replaced.
COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES Communication with Parents and BUSC Staff is of the utmost importance. Complete a Background Check. 1/2 GRADE 5/6 GRADE 7/8 GRADE page 3 Gain permission from a location and schedule their own practices. Inform BUSC staff of your practice times and dates. If you cancel practice, you must contact each player. Obtain Coaching Materials should you require support ( Arrange the use of or Obtain any equipment you may need for practice. Possess a copy of your most recent roster with contact information and game schedule. Complete a Concussion Safety Training Course online. (Good for one year.) Inform parents/guardians of the Concussion Policy. Hand out Concussion Safety Literature and obtain signatures indicating receipt. Hand out Team Picture Packets and adhere to Photography Schedule. Once photos are finished, deliver to families. Hand out Jerseys. Make arrangements with BUSC Staff or a volunteer parent should you be unable to attend a game or practice. Rescheduling games is extremely difficult and we ask you first try to find a substitute in your absence. Verify players have paid their season fees and completed their waivers before playing. CONFLICT MANAGEMENT While yelling and excited feelings are commonplace on the field, there are times when situations escalate out of the acceptable realm for youth sports. Unacceptable behavior includes a parent, player or coach: Approaching you or your players in heated dialogue Invading your personal space Making threats, using explicit language or making obscene gestures or Trying to engage in a physical altercation In the event of a hostile player, coach or parent please observe the following recommendations: DO NOT engage the aggressor. Protect your players and families by removing their presence from the situation. Remove yourself and immediately contact the Director of Youth Programs. Complaints against a parent, coach or player must be immediately reported to our Director of Youth Programs or Program Assistant/Referee Coordinator. If a situation should occur and resolve itself during the game you MUST inform our staff. If a complaint should be made against you and sustained by BUSC Staff, the degree of behavior will determine an appropriate response ranging from a coaches' meeting to removal from the team.
PLAYER EQUIPMENT No equipment considered dangerous to another player, as determined by the referee, shall be worn during the game and strongly discouraged during practices. No jewelry may be worn on the field (watches, earrings, bracelets, etc.). Taping or Covering of ornamental Jewelry is NOT permitted (All Earrings, including newly pierced must be remove to play). Medical Alert Bracelets are the only exception and must be taped down. JERSEY All Players must wear the official BASIN UNITED Recreational Shirt, which will be provided by BASIN UNITED before the first game. Teams are not permitted to play without wearing an official BASIN UNITED Recreation Shirt (Replacement shirts may be purchased at Mike s Field House). SHINGUARDS All players must be wearing Shin Guards before entering the field of play. Players not wearing shin guards will not be allowed to play. Player socks must cover entire Shin Guard. CLEATS No Football or Baseball cleats may be worn, only soccer cleats, turfs, or tennis shoes/sneakers. BALL Though not required, we encourage all players to purchase a ball for practice. Basin United provides game balls on game day. Little Kickers/ Grasshopper/ Kindergarten/ 1/2 Grade: Size 3 3/4 Grade and 5/6 Grade: Size 4 7/8 Grade: Size 5 COACH EQUIPMENT Coaches are responsible for finding and providing their own equipment to conduct practices. Little Kickers/ Grasshopper/Kindergarten teams may checkout 10 cones and 2 size 3 balls. ROSTER All teams must present an official club roster printed from EZLeagues to the referee before each game. Any player not on the roster will be in eligible to play. FIRST AID Though First Aid kits are available throughout the premises, we encourage coaches to purchase a small kit containing basic band-aid and tape supplies. An Automatic Emergency Difibulator is available at the Field House. Blood: No player may play if bleeding or with any blood on a uniform. As coach, you must immediately substitute the player. The uniform must be changed. The player may not return to the game until the bleeding is stopped and the wound is covered. Please notify staff of any blood accidents, so we may clean it appropriately
GAME PLAY 1. Games can only be cancelled or rescheduled by Basin United Staff. If a conflict arises, you must contact our Director of Youth Programs for rescheduling. 2. Teams will play 7v7, with goalie, on a single field outdoors. 3. Referees will be provided by Basin United. 4. Play (2) 25-minute quarters and a 5-minute half time. Referees are responsible for keeping the correct time. Coaches will rotate players throughout every quarter. 5. Scores are not kept. 6. Size 4 Ball provided by Basin United. 7. Out of Bounds is strictly enforced, and players must learn to stop when a whistle is blown. Out of bounds will result in throw-ins. Poor throw-ins will be used as a coaching opportunity to teach the correct form. After three poor throw-ins, the ball will go to the opposite team. 8. Hand balls and fouls will result in a penalty kick when the offense occurs within the penalty yard box, meaning one player shoots against the goalie. Outside the penalty box, a handball results in an indirect free kick, meaning a second player must touch the ball before a made goal. 9. Fouls are considered but not limited to: Intentional tripping, slide tackling, elbowing, making excessive contact, and foul language. A player maybe removed from the game or the property due to intentional tripping, slide tackling, elbowing, making excessive contact, or foul language after attempts to correct the behavior by the referee. 10. Off sides is enforced. 11. Substitutions may be made by players standing at midline and ushered on by the referee. Substitutions are unlimited and may only occur on a dead ball. 12. Goal kicks and corner kicks will be played normally. As with throw-ins, if the player makes a mistake allow time for the coach to teach the proper manner. 13. Jersey Conflicts. Please advise the opposing and retrieve alternate colored pennies for the home-team from the Front Desk. 14. Guide your players during the game and be open to guiding players on the opposing team as well. Encourage parents to remain spectators (no coaching from the sideline) and not enter the field unnecessarily. 15. Spectators must sit opposite the team benches along the sideline only. No spectators shall sit behind the end-lines/goals. 16. Slide tackling is NEVER ALLOWED. page If you do not have enough players to field a game or regularly have trouble with player attendance, please inform our Director of Youth Programs or Program Assistant as soon as possible. 18. All Coaches must back-up referees on ALL calls. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Referee Coordinator after the game.
5/6 GRADE 7/8 GRADE page 6 GAME PLAY A Coach/ Parent/ Spectator may not enter the field of play except on the referee s signal. Violation of this rule will result in disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the game and possibly league. Coaches, players, parents and spectators shall not harass or attempt to distract players, linesman or center referee(s). Infraction of these rules will result in a caution, followed by an ejection and appropriate disciplinary action as determined by the club Executive Staff. No person is to make derogatory remarks or gestures to the referee, players or spectators. Any coach, player, or spectator making derogatory remarks or gestures to the referee, players or spectators will be asked to leave the field for the remainder of the game! If a coach, player or spectator is asked to leave the field, they will be suspended for the next game for the first occurrence, any additional incidents will result in the removal from all Basin United programs and the person trespassed from Steen Sports Park. Protests: Since this is a developmental league and there are no standings or scores kept, there is no need for protests. All games will be considered final. NO PROTESTS ALLOWED. Referee Authority: Referees are the final and ultimate authority on the field before, during and after the game. Referees will address fouls with the following levels of disciplinary action, however, depending on the degree of infraction, the referee may use any level they deem fit: 1. Verbal Warning 2. Cautionary Cards (Yellow Card) 3. Ejection of players (Red Card) Running up the Score Although scores will not be kept during the game, players and spectators know when a team is outscoring their opponent. There may be times when your team severely outmatches the skills of another recreation team. In these instances, please, protect the desire for players to return to future games by not allowing your team to score an excess of three more goals than the opposing team. You can avoid deflating a team's spirit by trying the following when the score is severely unbalanced: Make sure all your players received equal playing time. Institute a certain number of passes before a goal may be scored. Take a player off the field or shift players into different positions. Please use discretion when making these adjustments during game play. We want to leave players feeling empowered and excited to play soccer.
SPORTS COMPLEX USAGE RULES page 7 ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, TOBACCO PRODUCTS, and MARAJUANA [including e- cigarettes/vaping] ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED WITHIN THE SPORTS PARK, INCLUDING ALL FIELDS, BUILDINGS AND PARKING LOTS. Please respect our indoor and outdoor fields. At the conclusion of your game, each team is responsible for their garbage, which must be collected and disposed of in a trash bin. RECYCLE. Empty container liquids and place them in a Recycling Bin for cans or plastic bottles. Cardboard may also be recycled at our facility. Please observe appropriate parking locations and do not park in a handicapped spot without the proper authorization. Vehicles parking on unmarked grass, blocking in other vehicles or occupying emergency zones will be TOWED. Multiple offenses will lead to police intervention. Parking is available on the grass, in marked areas only. We ask cars only pull the length of their car onto the grass and no more to avoid damage to our fields. INDOOR FIELDS: Food and Non-Water Liquids are NOT ALLOWED on the TURF. Please adhere to this rule by asking players to keep their food and beverages on the concrete portion surrounding the field. After game snacks must be served on a concrete surface. Water must be contained in a twist top container. Gum is NOT ALLOWED in the building. Please stay out of areas marked as off-limits and off building equipment.
