Warming up the Spirit Games

SMALL RONDOS 4v1 4V2 3V1 5v2 6v2 2v2+3 Any of the small rondos can serve as a warmup. They are also great for building into the game warmup routine. See section on rondos. They work everything in the game including transitions.

CAPTURE PINNIES

OPPOSITE HANDBALL TAG/BARCELONA

SURVIVOR DRIBBLE GAME

CHAIN TAG Start with one or two partners locking arms. They will then attempt to tag the other players in the grid. Once a player is tagged, they must become part of the chain. Players may not go outside the grid or they become part of a chain.

NUMBERS PASSING Players are each given a numbers and the same color pinnie. With larger groups have up to three teams each. Younger players can begin with 3-4 per team.

4 BOX PERCEPTION PASSING GAME 1. Players move freely in grid 2. Introduce 4-5 balls 3. Pass with the hands (call a name, make eye contact) 4. Pass with the feet to any player (call a name, make eye contact) 5. Pass only to the same color (to feet) one ball per team (call a name, make eye contact, pass, move around an outside cone) 6. Pass to a teammate in another quadrant (to feet) (call a name, make eye contact, pass to a teammate outside the same quadrant, move around an outside cone) 7. Pass to a teammate and get it back ( to feet/wallpass) then pass to another teammate. 8. Pass to a teammate (into teammate s run) making a run outside the grid. Keys: Look early, make eye contact, pass the way you are facing, support the ball quickly with proper body position, scan the field, know where you are going next before the ball arrives at your feet.

SAFE ZONE TAG In this game, the hula hoops are placed in various areas of the grid and act as a free tag zone. Players must only be in the zone for 10 seconds or until someone else enters the zone.taggers hold a pinnie and when they tag someone else they drop the pinnie and exchange roles. No tagging the person who tagged you.

PARTNER PASS AND MOVE Players are put in partners and must pass the ball to each other while moving to various areas in the grid. The coach may combine the activity with dribbling by giving a number of dribbles a player must take before passing to their partner.

BALL TAG One player holds a ball and tries to tag the other players. If a player gets tagged he/she gets the ball and tries to tag the others. Can be played with multiple taggers.

STEAL THE BALL GAME Four teams of even players. An extra player may be designated as a full-time ball winner. This player will steal balls and return them to the middle of the field. The object is to get the balls and dribble one at a time back to your team s hula hoop. Once all the balls are gone from the middle, you may steal a ball from an opponent s goal, or directly from an opponent dribbling a ball. The team with the most balls in their hula hoop after the allotted time wins the game. Rules: No guarding one s own goal. No stealing more than one ball at a time. No kicking opponents balls out of their goal.

HULA HOOP TAG Dribblers attempt to pass the hula hoop taggers and cross to the other side of the box. This game can be done in any large rectangular area. If a dribbler is caught they must change with the hula hoop tagger. Coaches can also roll plastic or rubber balls at the dribblers (below the knees) When a player is hit below the knees, he/she must do a small technical task such as ten toe taps to get back in the game.

JUGGLING ENDLINE TO EDGE OF 18 YARD BOX

GROUP JUGGLING

TEAM BALL TAG Two teams of even players. Each team gets a ball. Use soft plastic balls for this game. To score points a team must pass the ball and then toss the ball onto an opponents back = 3 points or toss ball onto an opponents shins = 1 point.

TOSS/VOLLEY/CATCH Two teams of even players. Each team possesses the ball through a toss/volley to a teammate/catch sequence. The player catching the ball only can advance the ball three steps. The objective is to score in the opponent s goal.

HULA HOOP MAGNET TAG Tag game in which 1-2 partners each begin holding a hula hoop. The hula hoop taggers must tag the other players to make them form part of the hula hoop team. Once tagged, a player must join the hula hoop taggers by holding the hula hoop. The team then continues to try to tag the rest of the players. The players who haven t been tagged may not go out of the designated grid.

HANDBALL Two teams of even numbers. The game is played with the hands and goals are scored by throwing the ball into the opponent s goal. The player catching the ball may only advance the ball three steps before he/she must pass the ball to a teammate. If the ball drops it is a turnover.

the players display proficiency, challenge them to do it faster and in a smaller space. The sequence is:
