1 ISSUE 06 March 2015 Special Edition NEWSLETTER OF DALE HOCKEY CLUB This issue President s Message P.1 Club Passport P.2 New Rules P.4 Smartphone App P.5 Sponsors and Partners P.7 President s Message Some very exciting news has come to Dale Hockey that could not wait for the April edition of the Dribble, this special edition has been published for that reason. The Club Passport Program has been offered to Dale from Hockey WA as part of a pilot scheme to promote and recruit volunteers into our club. All clubs independent of their size or position in the community require volunteers. Now I am happy to say Dale can give something back to all you hard working volunteers. In 2013 two very enterprising people formed The Community Development Foundation, these founding directors are Barry Cable and Jenny Day. Barry Cable is well known for his distinguished career as an AFL footballer. Barry has also worked extensively with communities statewide for the past 40 years. He is a well known Western Australian citizen and is a member of numerous Western Australian Boards. His contribution to major projects involving communities state-wide is well recognised. Barry remains extremely fit, and is a prominent figure in Western Australian sport history particularly within the Football and Cycling community. While Jenny Day may not be as well known as Barry, Jenny has been instrumental in initiating, developing and implementing projects with measurable outcomes including the Walk Right In program in conjunction with the Education Department; the Open Doors Schools Program with DEETYA; the MOASH project; and the Indigenous Coordination Centre/CDF programs. Jenny has a wide network of contacts and has worked in conjunction with Local, State and Federal Government Departments particularly those involved with Education, Justice and Health; as well as Private and Corporate sectors. Jenny currently sits on the McCusker Foundation for Alzheimer s Research Board and the Murdoch Chiropractic and Sports Science Board, and is a Life Member of Celebrate WA. In 2014 CDF in conjunction with Department of Sport and Recreation have offered all state sporting organisations 6 positions within their respective sport to conduct a pilot program. Dale has been selected by Hockey WA to participate in the pilot program. What does this mean for Dale and more importantly to you our volunteers. You are awarded points for carrying out volunteer work for the club, those points can be redeemed at the club to purchase items or services. Please read on to page 2 and 3 for more information. 2 Club Passport Recruit Recognise Reward Every Association and Sports Club is unique, and this is captured through a one on one consultation process to create a program that best suits each Association. The Club Passport differs from other programs by providing a framework that incorporates existing initiatives therefore adding value not work. About the Club Passport Program Coupled with the latest technology, the Club Passport revolutionises volunteer management, recruitment and recognition in Sporting Associations and their affiliated Clubs. The Club Passport provides Associations with a means of identifying and targeting their specific core development areas and promotes these key areas to the Clubs within the Association. Through involvement in these key areas, volunteers earn Club Dollars that can be used to purchase items from their Club including uniforms, game and training fees and membership fees. In addition to assisting Associations address their identified core areas, the Club Passport provides a platform from which Clubs can build and reinforce their individual Club Governance, Volunteer Sector, Sponsorship, obligatory Association activities, and Skill Development and Accreditation requirements. The custom-designed Online Passport Program is simple to administer and provides a means for Associations and their Clubs to be accountable for delivery on their focus areas. The availability of real time data assists in creating a strong link between Associations and their Clubs and is also beneficial for sponsors and other funding bodies. The Club Passport: Recruits new volunteers Helps involve KidSport parents and family members in the Club Rewards existing volunteers for their efforts Simplifies sponsorship and provides Clubs with easy to follow templates to create their own Sponsorship documents Helps increase the number of club members completing training and accreditation Creates a strong relationship between Associations and their affiliated Clubs. 3 Club Passport What does it mean for you What benefit do you get out of the program. Every 10 points you earn equates to actual money you can spend at the club to either purchase food or drinks (non alcoholic) at the canteen. Each 10 points is $1 to purchase items like club uniforms, games fees or entrance to club events. If you do not want to redeem the points yourself these points can go to a club-chosen communal cause called a ClubQuest. The points accumulated can not be used outside of Dale Hockey club. Each volunteer activity will attract points, fundraising allows for our club to continue without having to charge excessive fees and as such attract the greatest reward. Any fundraising that you attend and help is broken down to three lengths 1 to 2 hours 40 points, 2 to 4 hours 60 points and those that are at the activity for 4 to 6 hours or for the whole of the activity receive 100 points. Dale Hockey plan on a minimum of 3 fundraising activities per year. Other activities that attract points are in the canteen on training days and games, 40 and 60 points respectively. As a manager of a team irrespective if it is a junior or senior team, whether you are a player or not, a manager can acuminate points on a weekly basis of 40 points for each round. Every time you add points from an activity those points will be validated against the organiser or manager of the event with a special validation code and approved. Once approved you will be able to redeem those points at the club. This system is available to all members their families who volunteer at the club. From your smart phone download and install the ClubPassport application, register to Dale Hockey Club. Once registered you can start accumulating your points. As this is a pilot scheme and it is in the first year of being run please be patient with those of us who are administrating the program in the background. As we gain more points to our club through additional sponsorship we will be able to offer more items for redemption. Get on board and get involved. Page 3

4 New Rules In the March edition of the Dribble the editor was unable to bring to you the new rules for this season as they had not yet been ratified to what levels these rule changes would be targeted at. These rules were only received by Hockey WA board on 10 February 2015 from Hockey Australia and ratified on the 12th March 2015 by the board. Rule changes are; Stick above the shoulder; applies only to Premier One, Premier two, Promotion One and Junior 11/12 A. Green card 2 minute suspension; all grades. Breaking at penalty corners; all grades. Maximum length of stick; The length of stick, as measured from the top of the stick to the bottom of the head, shall not be more than 105cm Attacking free hits within 5 metres of the circle; The ability to take attacking free hits, awarded within 5 metres of the edge of the circle, from the point of the offence. The change states that the ball still has to travel at least 5 metres before it can be played into the circle, or alternatively has to be touched by another player of either team, other than the player taking the free hit Long corner re-start on the 23 metre line; after the ball has unintentionally been played over the back-line by a defender or deflected by a goalkeeper or player with goalkeeping privileges, and no goal is scored. Play will now be re-started with the ball on the 23 metre line and in line with where it crossed the back-line. We are pleased to announce a new smartphone app, details on the next page on how you can get your own Dale Hockey Club app. App Features NEWSLETTERS Deliver our newsletter or sports record directly to you. This can be in pdf format or a link through to a website. SCHEDULE/FIXTURE Links through to the web address (URL) or PDF that displays the schedule/fixture for your team. NEWS Receive news and information about your team. You will receive push notifications whenever a team admin posts something new. EVENTS Get notifications and reminders about key dates in your teams calendar, such as presentation nights and social gatherings. TEAMS The Team Selection button is where your teams are displayed in your App for upcoming games. You can restrict access on who can view teams via your access group settings. AVAILABILITIES Availabilities is a great way to keep track of players, as it allows a player or club admin to enter a range of dates a player is or is not available for selection. LIVE SCORES Link directly through to a web address (URL) for your sporting associations live scores feed, or select manual entry mode and any member of your app can enter live scores as they happen! STANDINGS/LADDERS Links through to the web address (URL) or PDF that displays the standings/ladders for your team. DOCUMENTS Upload pdf documents to display in your App. These could be reports, forms, general notices or any document. PHOTOS Photos are a great way to add a social element to your App. When sending a photo in your App you can choose which access groups will be able to view that photo. Page 5
