1 NOTE FROM THE EDITOR We pride ourselves on winning at home and making it extremely difficult for opposition sides when they visit Shark Park. However, we ve failed to live up to that reputation this year, with a number of clubs managing to knock us off at home. Fortunately, last round we put in one of our strongest performances of the year against the Frankston Bombers, with all three footy teams having big wins and the A Grade girls notching up their first win of the year. As they have done in almost every match this year, the Under 19s got us off to an absolute flyer as they delivered another huge win, but still couldn t claw their way into top spot. It was another great performance by the Under 19s who continue to impress week after week. The Reserves went into the match hoping to emulate the great performance they put in the week before in what was another must-win match for the Sharks. While their performance wasn t as dominant as the week before, the boys managed to control the game well and, all importantly, came away with the four points. The Seniors match was poised to be a real tough battle as our boys tried to come up with a win against the ladder-leaders, Frankston, after having suffered a really disappointing loss against the week before. As it turned out, the Frankston boys didn t put up much resistance as the Sharks ran away with the match ended up with a comfortable win. Unfortunately, the result was marred by the terrible and season-ending injury that Joey Boase suffered in which he broke his fibula. We are all feeling for you Joey and hoping that you make a full and swift recovery! On the netball courts, the mighty A-Grade girls had a fantastic win against Frankston in what was a much deserved result. It was the first time the A-Grade girls have won since the Sorrento Football Netball Club begun and the win was just reward for the girls hard work and effort. We keep saying that all the girls improve every week and that win helps prove it. I m sure that there will be plenty more wins to come for all the girls as they continue to develop. Well done girls! This week we head out to Sunny Somerville and will be once again hoping to rack up wins in all divisions. While Sommy are sitting in the top five in the Under 19s and Reserves, their Seniors have been unable to replicate the form that took them all the way to the final dance last year and are sitting lower down the ladder. It s always a bit tough to know how the boys and girls will bounce back after a week off, but let s hope they all come fired up and refreshed because we really need another strong week to consolidate the good performances against Frankston. There s also a lot of internal pressure for spots in the Seniors at the moment which should give everyone a bit of extra motivation. No doubt there will be a number of great battles and entertaining performances this week so make sure you head out to Somerville to cheer the mighty Sharks on. Look forward to seeing you there. 4 SENIORS RESERVES Round 11 Round 11 Sorrento ( ) v Frankston ( ) Sorrento ( ) v Frankston ( ) Speed, Aggression, Ball movement, Attitude. It was all there on Saturday when we took on the top of the table, Frankston, at home. After a couple of poor weeks, we were back to our best. Some late injuries late in the week to Jack Falck and Zack Burns a long with Treebs meant our starting on ballers for much of the year were all out. Trev and Jack Eagan took in new roles tagging Frankston s prime recruit and did a great job while Big Willo and Guy tag teaming in the ruck gave us good grunt and first use. Scotty Lockwood came back into the side from injury to play a key role up forward with Corpy, kicking 9 between them. The defenders were terrific once again switching direction and creating good run and drive from deep in defence. It was great to have the opportunity to debut two more players who have been in top form. Luke Brigden came in to join his brother and played a good role for us. While 17 year old Jack Gipp was very impressive in his first game and in kicking his first senior goal. The new faces we have brought into the side this year have been excellent and it shows what great depth we have. 12 new players from the preliminary final loss last year ran out on Saturday to represent our club. For those who don't understand what we are doing and what direction we are taking, feel free to ask, otherwise get behind the boys and support as we build a new generation. Unfortunately, we had a nasty injury to a terrific young lad with Joey Boase breaking his leg which required surgery and puts him out of action for the season. We can't wait to get Boasy back in the Shark jumper next year. Nick This weeks edition of the Urban Tones twos notes comes from a rather soggy Wellington. Our game against the Bombers was another must win, and to the boys credit as like last week we came out all guns blazing. A five goal to one first quarter set up the victory and while the game was fairly even after that, we were always in control and ran out convincing winners. A change in our preparation has seen our starts improve and the resultant scoreboard pressure on the opposition has played a key role in our last two victories. Cheers to Pitch and Plug for your input. The twos brat pack of Wes Doyle, Dan Hickey and Snake Main were awesome. The returning Heater Connolly was a rock at full back. Shep, Hammo and Seersy were also solid down back. Old heads Muller, Kenyon and Lawson provided great drive and polish. Paddy, Pitch, Kell and Rikk were great through the middle. Hammy, Macca, Murg gave us great defensive pressure off the pine. Thanks to Deano Patton for helping out, up from Tappy's nineteens. Congrats to Lukey Brigga on making his senior debut. Well-deserved after some very impressive games this year. All involved with the twos wishes Joey Frizz Boase a speedy recovery from injury. To the hipster, hope that cut brow doesn't affect your manly good looks. Highlight of my day had to be the public hugs I got off Sophie and Beth after the A grade netballers had an unexpected win. 5 UNDER 19 S Round 11 Sorrento ( ) v Frankston (2.3-15) (NO REPORT PROVIDED) NETBALL REPORT This week we played our long time tough competition, the Frankston Bombers, and we had the A Grade girls coming out with a win! This win marks the first win in A Grade competition since the football-netball club started, making it an exciting and memorable day for Sorrento! The girls all played amazing across the board and showed our strength and competitiveness in this tough competition. It has been 6 years since the netball club started and this year we have finally proved after years of building that we are constantly improving. So many people have done so much for our club and played tough games with not much support and resources. Thanks to everyone and well done girls! 6 JUNIOR REPORT Well it s been a few weeks since the last update and a lot going on at the junior club. The kids are coming off the school holiday bye and are back into it this weekend with 5 games at Shark Park this Sunday. This week brings on Round 11 out of a 14 round season so ladder positions are all important for our scoring teams with only 4 rounds till finals. Our Under 9 s and 10 s have been playing some fantastic footy and even though they don t score, they have had some wonderful results. The standout team results wise has been our Under 14 s who sit on top of the ladder with an 8 and 1 record. The hard work the boys have been putting in is paying off on the field and Coach Noel White and all of the parent helpers have done a great job in moulding a great group of boys into a great team. Other ladder positions are as follows: Under 11 s sit 7th (2 wins & 8 losses) Under 12 s sit 75th (5 wins & 5 losses) Under 17 s sit 5th (4 wins & 6 losses) Both our Under 9 teams are playing away this weekend at Sth Mornington with U9 White playing at 10.00am and U9 Sharks playing at 11.00am. Under 14 s play at Rye at 1.00pm. Home games are as follows: U10 s v 9.00am U11 s v 10.00am U12 s v 11.30am U13 s v 1.00pm U17 s v 2.45pm We love seeing any of the senior supporters and players down at the ground on junior days so if you get the chance pop down and see some of our future senior Sharks running around.
