CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT REFEREES SOCIETY CHAIRMAN S REPORT CHAIRMAN: Mr Julian Sattin Mobile: I don t have much to report this month. I cannot believe we are over halfway through the season. I would like to welcome Kevin Small, from Wilts FA, for what I hope will be an enjoyable and informative evening. VICE CHAIRMAN: Mr Keith Ballinger Mobile: Can I remind everyone of the end of season prize draw 5 for a ticket and a chance to win a new kit. SECRETARY: Mr Daniel Spyer Mobile We are also getting to that time where we are planning for our end of season meal on Friday 26 May If anyone has any suggestion of where we could go these will be gratefully received. We will also need an idea of numbers. TREASURER: Mr Richard Masters Mobile Follow Chippenham RA on SECRETARY S REPORT Chippenham Town have now responded in relation to the availability of using their clubhouse for our meetings next year. They have responded saying that we are able to use their facilities free of charge for next season as long as we use the bar when we're there. I think that you'll all agree that this is great news and Chippenham RA and Chippenham Town FC are looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship.

CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT REFEREES SOCIETY IS ON FACEBOOK: TREASURER S REPORT The Chippenham RA have a new member, Craig Finan is registered with Army FA and has now joined our society. We now have 20 members. I have made a new order with A&H and have several items for sale - whistles, match pads and coins. This is still to be paid for as I haven t received an invoice yet. Tickets are still on sale for the end of season raffle, 5 tickets with the winning ticket getting a brand new kit. This will be drawn at the April meeting with the kit being presented at the AGM. WILTSHIRE COUNTY REFEREE S ASSOCIATION REPORT The County RA Meeting was held on 1st February. Several points to note: 1. The FA Referees Committee had requested feedback on local referees wearing coloured shirts. The feedback being given is that if teams in local Leagues were being given permission to wear black or very dark kits then the League should provide coloured shirts to referees free of charge. 2. The RA may be writing to branch secretary's requesting up-to-date membership details. 3. The next RAFA day will be held at Melksham on 01/03/ The County RA AGM is to be held in Chippenham on 10/05/17. It would be nice if a few of our members could attend!

CHIPPENHAM SOCIETY EVENTS / NEWS Does anyone have any suggestions for a Society event or evening out? Please let the committee know and we will see what we can arrange or organize. There was some suggestion at the Christmas meal of arranging a Curry Night or we could even go for a Chinese what do members think about this? CHIPPENHAM SOCIETY PROGRAMME 2016/17 SEASON We hope we have put together an interesting programme for the 2016 / 17 Season. 13th February Wiltshire County FA Tutor Training Night 13th March Ben Williamson (Talking about his 1st Year as a Level 3 Referee) 10th April Open Meeting A chance to discuss any taking points from the 2016/17 Season 8th May Society Annual General Meeting 26th May 2017 (Friday) - Society End of Season Meal - Venue Suggestions to the Committee please.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS / QUESTIONS? THIS IS THE TIME FOR MEMBERS TO RAISE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE REPORTS PROVIDED, OR TO RAISE ANY REFEREEING ISSUES OR CONCERNS. Minutes of the Chippenham Referees Society meeting held on the 9th January 2017 Meeting opened at 7:30pm Members Present: Mike Toulouse, Ian Hailstone, Adie Hunt, Rich Masters, Dan Spyer, Julian Sattin, Keith Ballinger, Martin Chown Apologies: Ben Williamson, Niall Burt, Rob Cook, Gary Stonham, Joe Ballinger. Newsletter: Handed out to those who wanted a copy County RA: N/A A.O.B: R. Masters noted that when at Chippenham FC he had a word with P. Jefferies on the bar. P. Jefferies of CTFC said that the so ciety moving to theirs was a good move and possible relations were hoped to be developed. It was noted by Guest speaker George McCaffery that being a ball sponsor for a match at Chippenham Town FC may be a good way to say thank you to the club for letting us use their facilities. Most of the member s present were in support of this idea. I. Hailstone noted that at a recent meeting it was discussed that referees might be able to be wear different coloured shirts when refereeing. This however would be at the expense of the referee to buy more kit. Guest Speaker: This month we had George McCaffery present a variation of his referee s toolbox. Members partook in a quiz and this made for good discussion within the group. IN THE NEWS Whilst on my lunch break the other day, I saw on the BBC Sports website an article about a Local Referee calling for a strike by grassroots referees at the beginning of March, due to incidents of abuse and violence. I have copied the link to the report here if you are interested: - is this a problem locally? A number of people had responded and left comments about their experiences, it was interesting reading and may be of interest to members. A RAFFLE WILL BE HELD AT EACH MEETING 2 A TICKET - PLEASE BRING A PRIZE!! CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT REFEREE S SOCIETY NOW HAVE OUR VERY OWN WEBSITE. TO KEEP UP TO DATE YOU CAN FIND US AT: chippenhamra.wordpress.com/

TONIGHT S GUEST Tonight we are pleased to welcome Wiltshire Referee Development Officer, Kevin Small as our guest speaker. CHIPPENHAM RA SOCIETY SHOP We hope to re-introduce a society shop. Stocking match pads, whistles and other match day items, which will be on sale at each meeting. Don t forget to purchase your ticket for the end of season prize draw. Tickets will cost 5 and are available from the Treasurer at each meeting. 5 for a chance to win a complete Nike 2016 Referee Kit with Wiltshire FA Badge. Tickets will be available at meetings throughout the season. The Draw will be held at April s Meeting. Our Next meeting will be held on Monday 13 MARCH 7:30pm at the Gladstone liberal club END OF SEASON DRAW As an incentive to try and get more members to attend meetings the committee have decided for the 2016/17 season to introduce a prize draw at the agm. Those members who attend 5 or more of the seasons meetings will automatically be entered into the draw. The Prize will be a 20 voucher to spend at A & H International

LAWS OF THE GAME QUIZ QUESTION 1 The ball goes out of play over the touch line but before the throw-in is taken, a player, using excessive force, deliberately kicks an opponent. What decision should the referee make? QUESTION 2 For an offence to be considered a foul, must it occur on the field of play? QUESTION 3 It is the opinion of the International FA Board that a match should not continue if there are fewer than QUESTION 4 Which of the following infringements committed by the team in possession of the ball does not require the referee to stop play? (a) A substitute enters the field of play without the referee s permission. (b) A substituted player enters the field of play with the referee s permission. (c) Any infringement of Law 4. (d) Any infringement of Law 13. FOOTBALL TRIVIA QUESTION 1 Which two Championship Clubs have never played in the top flight of English Football? QUESTION 2 Who was the first England Player to be sent off at the new Wembley Stadium? QUESTION 3 Which player scored the first hat-trick of the 2016/17 Premier League Season? QUESTION 4 Which Football League club play their home games at Rodney Parade? ANSWERS: - LAWS OF THE GAME: - 1. Send off player for violent conduct and restart play with a throw in. 2. Yes, but with a few exceptions such as when a player leaves the field as part of play and commits an offence. 3. Seven players remaining in a team 4. An Infringement of Law 4 TRIVIA: - 1. Burton Albion & Rotherham United 2. Steven Gerrard (2014 WC Qualifier vs Ukraine) 3. Romelu Lukaku 4. Newport County YOU ARE THE REF: - 1) Stop play immediately and send off both defenders for violent conduct. The striker has been badly let down by his colleagues here their idiocy has denied him the chance to score. And not only that, they have also handed the opposition a great chance, as you have to restart play with an indirect free-kick from where the defenders were fighting, inside their own penalty area.. 2) Stop play and show the defender a yellow card. It's not a red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity because defenders are allowed to make clean tackles his only offence here is coming on to the field without permission. Restart with an indirect free-kick to the attacking team from where he entered play. 3) Without hesitation, show the defender a red card for his disgusting behaviour, and point to the penalty spot. This is just like a sliding challenge which begins outside the penalty area but makes contact with an opponent inside the area the offence take place at the point of contact..
