5 3 GETTING AROUND SECURITY Upon arrival & during registration you will receive a lanyard with your name on, please make sure you wear this at all times so members of staff from both the college and from Hull Tigers Academy know you are part of the conference. 6 4 NEW COACHING PATHWAY From the 1 st August 2016 the make-up of The FA Level 1 & 2 courses will change. The new FA Level 2 Course structure will adopt a modular approach, incorporating the England DNA and formative assessments, these are: Unit 1: How We Coach Unit 2: The Future Player How We Support Unit 3: How We Play This approach means throughout the duration of the course coaches will be supported collaboratively by the tutor. The new assessment allows the learner and the tutor to form a more detailed understanding, using visits to the candidates clubs as part of the process.

8 6 TIGERS ACADEMY The Hull Tigers Academy develops talented young footballers from the age of eight to twenty-one. There have been significant developments at the Academy in the last 18 months, as the club continues in its quest to achieve Category Two status and recruit players of outstanding potential that can be nurtured into future first team regulars. In line with the Football Association s Charter of Quality, the Academy prepares players of the future for the club and enables them to progress both on and off the field. There is no doubt that the profile of being a Barclays Premier League club, and the success which has come with it in reaching a first-ever FA Cup Final in 2014 and playing European football for the first time in the club s 111-year history, has generated a considerable amount of excitement and enthusiasm for the game among local youngsters. The club is eager to tap into that, so that there will be more locally born players in the first team squad in the long-term future. Tony Pennock - Academy Manager Tony was appointed as Academy Manager in February 2014 after previously holding the same position for over five years at Swansea City s Academy. Before embarking on a coaching career, he played professional and semi-professional football for 16 seasons. Tony joined the Football Association of Wales as Football Development Officer in 2003 and also spent three seasons as first team goalkeeper coach at Swansea. He managed both the Wales semi-professional team and Under-23 squad prior to his role as Academy Manager at Swansea and gained his UEFA Pro Licence in Tony completed his Masters in Performance Coaching in December Jon Beale- Head of Academy Coaching Jon was appointed as Professional Development Phase Coach, working with the Academy s Under-18 squad, in May 2014 before being promoted to the role of Head of Academy Coaching eight months later. Prior to his arrival at the Tigers Academy, he worked at Swansea City s Academy where he undertook a number of different roles within the Academy s structure ranging from Foundation Phase Lead Coach to Head of Academy Coaching, playing a major role in the Academy s transition from Category 3 status to Category 2 status. Jon has over 10 years experience of coaching within professional football club Academy set-ups and is UEFA A Licence qualified.

9 7 PRE MATCH OBSERVATION Time: 9.45am Area: The Sports & Conference Suite Observation Overview As part of this morning s session we have recorded what it is like inside the dressing room prior to a game for Academy players. You will get to see the messages that are communicated by Academy coaches to their players, what their tactics are and what their responsibilities are for the game ahead. Key Questions 1. How did the coaches communicate key messages to individuals and to the team? 2. Were the players given the opportunity to contribute to the pre match discussions? How does this relate to The FA s 4 Corner Model? TECHNICAL / TACTICAL PHYSICAL PSYCHOLOGICAL SOCIAL NOTES

10 8 WARM UP OBSERVATION Time: 10.30am Area: Various Pitches (to be communicated on the day) Observation Overview The warm up for the Academy is just as important as any other aspect especially since the employment of Frankie Hunter. Frankie is head of Sports Science & Medicine. Frankie has a huge input on designing, implementing & delivering warm-ups for all age groups at the Academy. Key Questions 1. How does the warm up you ve observed compare to the one you do back at your club? 2. How were the goalkeepers warmed up? Did they do anything specific? Were they with the rest of the team or away from the team? How does this relate to The FA s 4 Corner Model? TECHNICAL / TACTICAL PHYSICAL PSYCHOLOGICAL SOCIAL NOTES

11 9 GAME OBSERVATION Time: 11.00am Area: Various Pitches (to be communicated on the day) Observation Overview The game is key in a players development, you will get to observe an age group playing against Barnsley. Key Questions 1. How do the coaches manage how the game progresses? 2. How does the coach conduct themselves on the touchline? 3. How does the coach communicate messages? Challenge - Observe one player Can you work out what their individual challenge is? What did they do well? Where could they improve? How does this relate to The FA s 4 Corner Model? 13 11 FA NATIONAL STAFF Mick Matthews FA Youth Coach Developer Mick has an impressive footballing background, playing as a professional and working within the game. As a previous tutor to the ERCFA Mick is now an FA Youth Coach Developer as part of the National Team and works closely with professional clubs, one of which is Hull Tigers Academy. Chris Welburn FA Regional PE & Coaching in Football Educator Chris, along with his current role is also an FA Coach Education Tutor and is head coach of the men s team at Leeds Beckett University. Chris recently completed his UEFA A Licence assessment.

14 12 ENGLAND DNA HOW WE PLAY Time: 2.00pm Area: The Sports & Conference Suite and 4G Session Overview This session will look at The England DNA How We Play starting in the sports & conference suite observing England U16s playing in Florida & looking at 12 key objectives. Moving onto the 4G Mick and Chris will relate it to the S.T.E.P principle and demonstrate practices that support this. Tasks As coaches you will be given touchline tasks to complete whilst observing the practical. How does this relate to The FA s 4 Corner Model?
