1 WESTON SOCCER CLUB KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

2 KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM The kindergarten program is a players first experience of organized soccer with sessions led by professional coaches. This program will provide a fun environment for the players to play and encourages creativity and freedom for players to express themselves. It allows coaches to support players technique in the practice zone and then encourage players to try the technique in an opposed situation. This program focuses on the key fundamentals of the game which are Passing, Controlling, Dribbling and includes development of Soccer intelligence and Awareness in the young players The benefits of this program is that each player will have roughly 70% more touches on the ball during a session over normal organized games and give the players both practice time and game time with minimal stoppages. The program will progress from 3v3 at kindergarten to 4v4 at 1st grade to 5v5 at 2nd grade leading into 7v7 at 3rd grade. The players resting will work in a practice zone that will have 4 players working (the 2 resting players from each field). The practice zone will be located at the at one end of the 2 side by side fields. Below is how the overall field layout will look. Fields will be set up side by side with a small channel for the coaches to work in. At one end of the two fields will be the practice zone. There will be two different exercises taking place in the practice zones. This area is for the players who are not involved in play to practice a specific skill to then try and use in the games when they re-enter the game.

3 Field Set Up 1: 4 Goal Game - The field is 24x20 yards. - The scoring zones are 6x20 yards with the central area being 12x20 yards. - Blue cone represent the corners of the field. - The red cones represent the start point fo the red team. - The white cones represent the start point for the white team. - The Orange cone represent the halfway line. - Goals are 1 yard in from the corner blue cones. - The highlighted areas are the scoring zone. Red players must be in the red zone to shoot for goal and white team must be in the white zone to shoot for goal.

4 Field Set Up 2: End Zone Game The field is 24x20 yards. - The scoring zones are 6x20 yards with the central area being 12x20 yards. - Blue cone represent the corners of the field. - The red cones represent the start point fo the red team. - The white cones represent the start point for the blue team. - The Orange cone represent the halfway line. - The highlighted areas are the scoring zone. Red players must be in the red zone and stop the ball with the bottom of their foot to score a point. White team must do the same in the white end zone. - 3x20 minute games with structured player rotation every 5 minutes.

5 Field Set Up: Start Points Each team has 4 players. 3 players in the game with 1 player resting with the coach. The ball starts with player 2. #2 passes the ball to either #1 or #3 (black dotted line) and the game begins. Once the pass has been played the 3 white players can enter the game. There is a spare ball on each of the start cones. Should the ball go out of bounds the team who s possession it will be run to the nearest side line cone and either pass or dribble the ball into play. If the ball goes out of bounds on player 1s side of the field only player 1 can bring the ball back into play. The opposition team must retreat to the half way line or the scoring zone line depending in which half of the field the ball went out of bounds. If the ball goes out behind a goal play re-starts from cone 2 and opposition retreat to halfway line. If a goal is scored all players return to start cones and #2 on the team who gave up the goal re-starts the game with a pass. Coaches can replaces the ball taken into play with the previous ball that went out of play. After 5 mins of play coach will call time and each player retreats to the cone they started the game on. Coach will then call go and players rotate to the next cone.

6 Field Set Up 1: Player rotation Each game should be 20 mins in length. 4x5mins. After 5 mins players will rotate positions. This will be a race that can earn a team an extra point. Coach will call time at which point the players in the game will return to their start cone. Coach will then call go at which point player on cone 1 will run to cone 2, cone 2 to 3. Cone 3 will run around the back of the goals and try and high 5 the coach before player 3 on the other team can get there. The player who gets the high5 wins the race.

7 Practice Zone Week 1 Foot Skills: Players dribble the ball across using variuos foot skill challenges. Challenges: - Dribble across using inside of feet only (Foundations) - Toe Taps on the move - Inside/outside inside/outside - Roll overs (roll ball across body in the style of toe taps) - Roll over stop (Roll ball with bottom of left and stop with right & visa versa) Key Points Keep ball close to feet with little touches Use different surfaces of the feet to move the ball - Inside of feet - Inside/outside of feet - Bottom of feet Eyes up for awareness Challenge players to dribble at speed

8 Practice Zone Week 2 Player 1 & Player 3 start with a ball. Both players dribble through the cones and pass the ball to the next player (1 to 2 & 3 to 4) 2 & 4 dribble across and repeat the process. Slalom Dribble - Players dribble in and out of the cones using the inside and outside of the feet. Encourage players to use the outside of the foot to push the ball through the gap in the cones and use the inside of the foot to move the ball forwards towards the next gap in the cones. Zig Zag Dribble - The cones are slighty off center for this exercise creating sharper turns around the cones and dribbling over a larger distance. Again encourage the use of both feet and different surfaces of the feet to move the ball. Key Points Keep ball close to feet with little touches Use different surfaces of the feet to move the ball - Inside of feet - Inside/outside of feet - Bottom of feet Eyes up for awareness Challenge players to dribble at speed

9 Practice Zone Week 3 First player in each line has a ball and dribbles towards middle cone. Players use a move to go by the cone and dribble to the next line. Challenges: - Use push & go to go past cone. (use outside of foot to push ball into space and accelerate past cone) - Fake & Take (Step to fake going one way and push the ball the opposite way with outside of opposite foot and accelerate away) - Roll Over (fake a kick and roll ball across body before accelerating away) Key Points Keep ball close to feet with little touches Use different surfaces of the feet to move the ball - Inside of feet - Inside/outside of feet - Bottom of feet Eyes up for awareness Challenge players to dribble at speed

10 Practice Zone Week 4 Each player has a ball and dribbles inside the area. Players must zig zag through cones or use a move/skill to dribble past single cones. Challenges: Use right foot only Use left foot only Use both feet Time challenge to get through/past all cones Beat previous time Key Points: Keep ball close to feet with little touches Use different surfaces of the feet to move the ball - Inside of feet - Inside/outside of feet - Bottom of feet Eyes up for awareness Challenge players to dribble at speed

11 Practice Zone Week 5 Player 1 will pass the ball through the two center cones to player 2. Player 2 takes a touch around the cone and passes back to player 1. Challenges: - 1 point for every pass through the central cones - How many can you do in a row with your right foot? - How many can you do in a row with your left foot? - Can you beat both scores? Key Points Standing foot next to the ball with toe pointing to target Lock ankle to strike Kick the middle of the ball Use inside of foot to control the ball Use sole of foot to control the ball
