It is the second-ever meeting between the two clubs following the inaugural matchup, which took place at Talen Energy Stadium about one month ago, on Saturday, August 26. The Union recently played their first-ever road match against a fellow expansion side, Minnesota United FC, playing to a 1-1 draw against the Loons on Saturday, September 9 LAST REGULAR-SEASON MEETING: On Saturday, August 26, the Five Stripes and the Union finished level at 2-2. Roland Alberg and Alejandro Bedoya scored for the Union while Yamil Asad and Tyrone Mears tallied for Atlanta. CLUB SNAPSHOTS NOTES TO KNOW SAPONG TIES UNION'S ALL-TIME SINGLE-SEASON GOAL- SCORING RECORD CJ s 64th-minute goal against Chicago on Saturday was his 14th of the season for the Union, tying the club s alltime single-season goal-scoring record matched Sebastien Le Toux, who netted 14 in 2010 it was also s 50th goal of his MLS career. PONTIUS BREAKS OUT WITH TWO-GOAL PERFORMANCE VS. FIRE Chris Pontius registered two goals for Philadelphia against the Fire last weekend, his first two of the season, en route to the victory the effort was the midfielder s seventh career multigoal performance, and his second for Philadelphia, following his last such match on March 12, 2016 at Columbus. UNION SET NEW CLUB RECORD FOR MOST SAVES IN A SEASON Philadelphia's tandem of goalkeepers, Andre and John, have combined for 105 saves during the 2017 season ( 71, 34)... that total represents a new single-season club record for the team, surpassing the 104 saves Philadelphia registered last year. MEDUNJANIN EDGES CLOSER TO UNION'S ALL-TIME SINGLE- SEASON CORNER KICKS RECORD Haris Medunjanin sent in six corner kicks on Saturday against Chicago, taking his total for the season to that leaves him just three shy of tying the all-time club single-season mark in the category, previously set by Tranquillo Barnetta in 2016 (124). I thought it was a great atmosphere. Obviously a long layoff since we've been here, over a month, and, you know, for them to be behind us in what has been a difficult time says a lot about them. I thought the place was loud, they got into the game early. I thought that Chris [Pontius] gave them a reason to get into the game early, we talked about that in the pregame. Overall a night where, I thought we started well in terms of our passing. As the half went along, Chicago had a lot of possession. Not a lot of penetration through our group, I thought we were fairly organized on the night. [David] Accam slipped through once or twice in dangerous moments but, you know overall, played the percentages, limited their key guys as best as we could and overall guys made some plays and the players deserve a lot of credit, you know. They've been through some highs and lows this year, but I thought they stuck together out there on our home field and did enough and deserved three points tonight against a very good Chicago team. I thought that we were pretty clinical in the second half in terms of killing the game off and then also being really aggressive on the counter. So, again, credit to the players. They did a really, really good job and put a lot into the game."
