2 About BC Soccer BC Soccer is the provincial sport governing body with the mission to govern, promote and develop the game of soccer in British Columbia in a professional and progressive manner. Established in 1907, BC Soccer is the largest provincial sport organization (PSO) in BC and the third largest soccer specific PSO in Canada with over 150,000 participants. As a professional not-for-profit society and a member of Canada Soccer, BC Soccer is committed to providing the widest opportunities for existing and potential participants, as well as providing support in the most effective and appropriate way for current players, parents, volunteers, member clubs, leagues and districts. BC Soccer is comprised of more than 120,000 registered players, over 2,200 registered referees, and thousands of volunteer coaches, administrators and soccer leaders. Working with its 40-member Youth Districts and 11 Adult Leagues as well as their affiliate member clubs, BC Soccer operates under the guiding principles of Professional Leadership, Passionate Service and Progressive Collaboration. In managing its relationships throughout the larger soccer community, BC Soccer s vision is to ensure every British Columbian has the opportunity to be involved in soccer as part of a lifelong commitment to active, health and involved lifestyle. For more information on the association and its direction, BC Soccer encourages you to view the Strategic Plan which is available at 2 Page

During his early years he was a director with the Mainland League which was the forerunner to the. As a great believer that all adult players should have a place to play, regardless of skill level, Keith later established the North Shore Intermediate Men s League. He was also a driving force for BC Soccer s participation in the BC Summer Games where he chaired the soccer portion of the games when it included adult age groups. Keith was not only involved with the Men's side of the game but also gave a lot of time to the Women's game, helping establish it on the North Shore. In September 1977 the new Field house at McCartney Creek Park in North Vancouver was dedicated as the Keith Millar Memorial Field house a fitting tribute to a hard working volunteer. Keith Millar passed away in Leeta Sokalski Cup Leeta started her involvement with women s soccer in 1979 as a player in the Mainland Women s Winter Soccer League (MWWSL). Leeta s volunteer career started the following year with the Greater Vancouver Women s Soccer Association (GVWSA). She participated in the amalgamation of the GVWSA and MWWSL in 1983 to form the current. Leeta was elected to the BC Soccer Board of Directors in 1986 and during her tenure on the Board she worked with Women in Sport Canada and Canada Soccer to create the first National Women s program. She was part of the organizing committee that introduced women s soccer to the BC Summer games and later, in her role as President of BC Soccer, Leeta assisted Canada Soccer in having female soccer included in the Canada Games. Most recently, Leeta received BC Soccer s AC Sanford award in 2015; a prestigious award given in recognition of exceptional service to soccer in BC over a long period of time. She continues to volunteer with BC Soccer today. Doug Day Cup This cup is named after Doug Day who was a tireless worker on behalf of the game. Doug was involved with the game for decades in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. He was a strong proponent of both youth and adult soccer which was recognized by Saanich Fusion which has named a field after him and the Lower Island Women's Soccer Association who have named a cup in his honour. Doug Day was a former president of Vancouver Island Soccer League and later the Lower Island women's soccer Association. 4 Page
