2 TABLE OF CONTENTS Letter from Vince... 3 Coaching Education Courses... 4 Introduction Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities Player Activities...54 Course Notes...60 LETTER FROM VINCE This book is dedicated to my late brother-in-law, Eric Emerich, who like many coaches in this great country volunteer their time to the game. He left this world far too soon. Like many volunteers, he was always seeking alternative ways to make practices more enjoyable for his players. More times than not, he wouldn t have a full allotment of players for practice. He and I would discuss different activities for him to use depending on how many showed up. That is what this book is all about. He didn t have a playing background but used some of the activites/games in this book to allow his players both learning and enjoyment. In the end though it wasn t the activities he ran but the care he showed for all children he coached. Every child was a champion in his eyes and heart. Miss you Eric and I know you are probably still coaching a small-sided team in heaven! Vince Ganzberg 3

DEVELOPMENT Foundations of Coaching* 4v4 Diploma ADVANCED National Diploma Advanced National Diploma GOALKEEPING Level 1 Diploma Level 2 Diploma HIGH SCHOOL NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching* High School Diploma SCENARIO: You are coaching a 12 year old team that has 14 players on the roster. Their parent(s) just left and you are the only team at the soccer park. Whether you coach for your local league or for an advanced level team this book is relevant. This book will offer realistic and enjoyable activities to use for all levels of play. 7v7/9v9 Diploma 11v11 Diploma Premier Diploma Director of Coaching Diploma Level 3 Diploma Advanced National GK Diploma This book will start with activities for 4 players and end with 12. All games are directional and go to at least one goal. There are five activites per number of players in this first version. In addition to the activity tips on some thoughts to teach, how to vary the activity, and a suggested length of time are also presented. Thank you for taking the time to serve and improve our game.
