2 WHAT IS COPPELL ACADEMY? A competitive junior academy program for ages U7 to U10 (birth years 2008 to 2011) An opportunity for skilled recreational soccer players within CYSA to train with professional coaches from Challenger Sports right here in Coppell Formed in fall of 2013, now competing in our eighth season of academy soccer this spring Access to beautiful city of Coppell fields An affordable competitive option with some the lowest fees in DFW A program that augments CYSA s recreational league by providing additional competitive training CYSA RECREATIONAL SOCCER & THE COPPELL ACADEMY Is the Coppell Academy a replacement for CYSA recreational soccer? All players are encouraged to play for their CYSA recreational team and enjoy both forms of youth soccer U7 & U8 (2011 & 2010 birth year) players are required to play CYSA rec soccer & Coppell Academy U9 & U10 (2009 & 2008) players have the option to play Coppell Academy only soccer What days are practices for the Coppell Academy? U7, U8 & U9 teams will have one academy practice per week typically on a Wednesday evening U10 teams will have two academy practices per week typically Monday & Wednesday evenings What days are games for the Coppell Academy? Coppell Academy games take place on Sunday afternoons typically after 12pm CYSA works with its scheduler to minimize conflicts with recreational games for Coppell Academy players What days are practices & games for the CYSA recreational league? Recreational practices are set at the discretion of the recreational coach Games typically take place on Saturdays thus no conflict with academy games on Sundays 2
3 ACADEMY SOCCER WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR FROM AN ACADEMY SOCCER PROGRAM? Checking coaches resumes & experience Goals & directions for the team Is the coach full time or part time? Professionalism Presentation, punctuality, appearance, conduct, discipline Enjoyment Does the coach enjoy coaching or is it a job? Facilities - 100% controlled, lights and accessible for weekly training Finances Non profit status of organization Stability Strength of board members & members of NTSSA Extra Skills GK Skills, coaches & team education Communication Consistent, frequent 3
4 COPPELL ACADEMY OPEN PRACTICES When & where will open practices be taking place? Wagon Wheel Park May 8 th, 10 th, 15 & 17 th, 2017 (4 total practices) U7 & U8 (5:45 7:00pm), U9 & U10 (7:15-8:30pm) How many open practices does my child need to attend? Attendance at a a MINIMUM of 2 open practices is required to be considered for the Coppell Academy if your player has never previously played for the academy before. Current Academy players are requested to attend a minimum of 1 open practice. How will teams be selected from the open practices? Coppell Academy coaches will be running the 4 open practices & assessing players throughout. From the assessment notes, Coppell Academy coaches will make final decisions on player selection for the fall season. How & when will I found out if my child has made a Coppell Academy team? Parents will be informed via the week of May 22. Do I need to register for the Coppell Academy open practices? Yes this allows to keep in contact regarding any potential rainouts and follow up with final decisions etc. ACADEMY SOCCER CALENDAR May 17 Open practices & team confirmation June July 17 Registration deadline/time off/summer camps July 17 pre season practices begin late July/early august August 25-27, 17 Coppell Cup Tournament August - November 17 Fall season begins. 6-8 academy games and weekly practice(s) November 17 Open practices for spring 18 academy season December 17 January 18 Optional indoor-futsal leagues/practices/time off February April 18 Spring season resumes. 6-8 games and weekly practice(s) May 18 Tournament (for U10 teams and possibly other age groups) May - June 18 Open practices in preparation for fall 18 academy season 4
5 ACADEMY SOCCER & FINANCIAL COMMITMENTS Coppell Academy fees include: Team fees Team practices with professional coach Coaching fees League fees Home Association fees Fees Exclude: Uniforms, any additional skills sessions offered on non-practice days, tournaments, individual team expenses, and any other miscellaneous items. *Optional Winter Indoor/Futsal League will also be offered, cost will be divided amongst interested players.
