2 Media information Dear Media Representative, Welcome to the final of the Women s EHF first season in the new format. Before this season the Cup Winners s Cup has merged with the Women s EHF Cup into one competition - the new Women s EHF Cup. Just like in the men s version of the EHF Cup, the new competition also included the group phase preceded by qualification rounds and followed by quarterfinals. The semi-finals and the final is played in a home and away games format. In the following media information you will find the essential facts you will require for the final two games and the participating teams. Important regulations Scoring of the matches in the final If, after completion of the two matches, both clubs have won the same number of points (no extra time will be played), the teams standings shall be determined by the following criteria: a) goal difference b) higher number of plus goals scored in away match c) penalty throws Rules for execution of penalty throws Prior to the penalty throws, each team shall name five players eligible to play at the end of the match by handing the referees a list of numbers. These players shall then take one throw each, alternating with their opponents. Each team is free to determine the sequence in which throwers will take their throws. The goalkeepers may be freely selected from the match report and exchanged in accordance with the Rules of the Game. Goalkeepers may take throws and throwers may perform as goalkeepers. The referees shall choose the goal at which throws are taken. The team taking the first penalty throw shall be determined by the referees by drawing lots. The team winning the draw may choose whether it wishes to throw first or last. If the scores are equal after the first round of penalty throws, it shall be continued until a decision is reached. In the second round, the other team shall start. Again five players shall be named who are eligible to play (the players named before may be named once again). In the second round, a decision is reached when a goal difference arises after both teams have taken one throw each. Eligible players are players entered in the match report that have not been disqualified or suspended at the time of the final whistle. Serious infractions committed during penalty throws shall be sanctioned by disqualification. If a thrower is disqualified or suffers an injury, an eligible substitute player shall be supplementary named. While the throws are being taken, only the player taking the throw, the current goalkeeper and the referees may enter the respective half of the playing court. If the number of eligible players falls below five, players may be named to take a second throw in the same round. Find all the regulations here 2

Rostov won both of their matches against Bietigheim then, and are now considered favourites to win the trophy, with the first leg taking place on Sunday. For Bietigheim, one dream has already come true. In their game against TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Wednesday, they claimed their 24th win in as many Bundesliga matches - and with two games remaining, the team of Martin Albertsen were crowned German champions for the first time in history. It s a big title, the most important and honest one, said their Sports Director Gerit Winnen. We will carry this title for a lifetime, and will duly celebrate it. However, I can promise that we will be again in our best shape on Sunday in the EHF Women s Cup Final, because this team is hungry. Reaching the final is already a milestone for the German side, who are in their first-ever international season and they have struggled at times, claiming just six points in the group phase. However, they progressed to the play-offs, and in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, strong home performances in the first leg matches provided a solid foundation for overall success as Albertsen s team swept away Kuban and NFH. One of their trump cards is right back Susann Muller who has a great chance to become the competition s top scorer. With 66 goals currently, she is now second in the scoring chart behind Nathalie Hagman, who has been eliminated with her team NFH. Rostov s best scorer Alexandrina Cabral Barbosa has 48 goals, yet the Russian side boast several prolific scorers in their star-studded squad and following the arrival of Head Coach Frederic Bougeant, they have put on an impressive performance on the European stage. 8 SG BBM Bietigheim (GER) When the former Leipzig and Randers coach, Martin Albertsen, arrived at Bietigheim (close to Stuttgart) in December 2014, the club was close to relegating to the second German division. Since then, a fairy tale with internationally experienced stars has begun, which lifted SG BBM to the top of the Bundesliga ranking and to the final of the EHF Cup in their first international season. In the past couple of years, the club made some impressive signings, such as the Dutch EURO silver medalists Maura Visser and Tess Wester, Danish international Fie Woller, German international Luisa Schulze and former Krim, Randers and Györ player Susann Müller who currently takes the second place in the EHF scoring chart with 66 goals. Bietigheim started their maiden European campaign from qualification where they eliminated ZRK, Naisa Nis, ASC Corona 2010 Brasov and notably former Champion League winner HC Podravka Vegeta. However, the life became less simple for the German side in the group phase where they claimed just a half of possible points - six - yet were fortunate to squeeze into the play-offs. In the quarter-final, Bietigheim faced a tough opponent, Kuban Krasnodar. The team from Bundesliga comfortably won the first leg 33:26, and although they struggled in Russia, they ultimately weathered the storm. The semi-final clash with NFH-Nykobing Falster Handboldclub followed a somewhat similar scenario, and the team of Albertsen were the winners once again, therefore sealing a spot in their first ever European cup final. 11 Rostov-Don (RUS) They started the season in the Women s EHF Champions League, where their goals were set high. However, Rostov s campaign in the continental top flight ended much earlier than expected. The Russian side were eliminated from the competition after the group phase - but now they have a chance to win the EHF Cup. Rostov has a star-studded roster, including six Russian internationals who became Opympic champions in Rio: Anna Sedoikina, Anna Sen, Vladlena Bobrovnikova, Eraterina Ilina, Maya Petrova and Anna Vyakhireva. Yet the team came up short in the Champions League, taking the bottom place in the group of death with Bucuresti, Gyor and Midtjylland. Following that setback, the club management decided to change the head coach - Jan Leslie was replaced by Frederic Bougeant who had previously worked with Fleury and the Senegalese women s national team. Under the Frenchman, Rostov have had an impressive spell in the EHF Cup. Having been drawn into the competitive Group C, the team of Bougeant won five of their six matches, including both games with SG BBM Bietigheim who are now their rivals in the final. That allowed the Russian team to comfortably finish top of the quartet and go through. In the play-off rounds, Rostov have so far faced no real problems. After winning both legs in the quarter-final against Brest Bretagne Handball - 26:21, 28:19 - they went on to brush aside TuS Metzingen in the semi-final (29:18, 31:21). Boasting an eight-game winning streak in the EHF Cup, Rostov hope to extend it in the final matches. Now our goal is to win the tournament, and we want to beat Bietigheim. We need to work every day, says Bougeant.
