1 YMCA OF GREATER LOUISVILLE AGE 3 YOUTH SOCCER, RULES Updated August 2016 STANDARDS: Y Sccer Leagues teach kids the basics f the sprt while als helping them make new friends, stay active and learn new skills that will help them succeed in life. We're cmmitted t caching with a fcus n fair play, healthy cmpetitin and parent participatin. All games will end with teams and caches shaking hands. RULE #1 - THE FIELD OF PLAY, This age grup will play n a field apprpriate t the age and size f teams. RULE #2 - THE BALL, 3-Year-Old Divisin - Size 3 RULE #3 - THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS, 3-Year-Old Divisin 4 players n the field, all playing frward and defending (n designated defenders) There is n galie in this divisin. RULE #4 - PLAYER UNIFORM Players may nt carry nt the field any bject (chains, bracelet, etc.), which might cause injury t anther player. NOTE: It is the cach s respnsibility t check this befre the game. Prper shes must be wrn, n metal f any type n shes. SHINGUARDS MUST BE WORN. RULE #5 - THE REFEREE In sccer all calls are left up t the judgment f the referee and all decisins are final. The referee has the right t stp the game if the cach r crwd becmes unruly. Players that see Caches treating referees with respect will usually treat referees with respect. Because the YMCA league is intended t be instructinal the referee is an extensin f the cach n the field. RULE #6 - DURATION OF GAME/PLAYING TIME The YMCA philsphy prvides that all children will play at least a half game. 3-year-lds, 4 minute quarters. RULE #7 - START OF GAME, The ball must be played frward int the ppnent s half f the field. RULE #8 - BALL IN AND OUT OF PLAY The referee will put the ball back int play whenever it crsses ut f play. The ball will be played away frm the gal f the team that kicked it ut. RULE #9 - SCORING, A gal cannt be scred until it has cmpletely crssed the end line between the gal psts. RULE #10 - ILLEGAL PLAYER ACTIONS AND PENALTIES The referee will stp play and reverse the ball fr any f the fllwing fuls: Kicking Tripping Handling the ball Dangerus Play (ex. high kick, players kicking the ball while they are n the grund) Striking an ppnent Hlding Pushing Slide Tackling RULE #11 COACHES AND SPECTATORS ON THE FIELD OF PLAY One cach per team is allwed n the field while the game is in play. N spectatrs are allwed n gal lines RULE #12 HEADING In accrdance with new USYS guidelines heading the ball will nt be allwed in this age grup. There are n substitutins during the quarters while the game is in play unless a child is injured r the child wants t leave the field. RULE #7 - START OF GAME The ball must be played int the ppnent s half f the field. RULE #8 - BALL IN AND OUT OF PLAY The ball is in play until it cmpletely crsses the end line r tuchline n the grund r in the air. A player may be ut f bunds and play a ball that is in play. The referee is part f the playing field. RULE #9 - SCORING A GOAL A gal cannt be scred until it has cmpletely crssed the end line between the gal psts. RULE #11- ILLEGAL PLAYER ACTIONS AND PENALTIES There are several fuls fr which a referee can award a free kick (all, nn heading related, free kicks taken in this divisin will be direct):

3 1. Kicking 8. Slide Tackling 2. Tripping 9. Handling the ball 3. Jumping at an ppnent 10. Hlding 4. Vilent charging 11. Charging away frm the ball 5. Striking an ppnent 6. Dangerus Play (ex. high kick, players kicking the ball while they are n the grund) 7. Pushing Player taking the kick may nt play the ball again until anther player tuches it. Children that cntinuusly engage in dangerus r vilent behavir may be asked t leave the game by the fficial. RULE #12- GOAL KICK If the ball cmpletely crsses the end line ff f the ffensive team (but nt int the gal) the defending team will be awarded a gal kick. The ball is typically kicked by ne f the defenders. The player kicking the ball may nt play the ball again until anther player has tuched it. RULE #13 - CORNER KICK When the ball cmpletely crsses the end line (but nt int the gal) ff f the defensive team, the ffense will be awarded a crner kick. The crner kick is taken frm the crner nearest t where the ball went ut f play. Player kicking the ball may nt play it again until anther player has tuched it. RULE #14 - THROW-IN When the ball crsses either sideline a thrw-in will be awarded. Player thrwing the ball must keep bth feet n the grund, bth hands n the ball, and bring the ball directly ver their head. If thrw-in is illegal the player will be awarded anther try. RULE #15 COACHES AND SPECTATORS ON THE FIELD OF PLAY One cach per team is allwed n the field play t help align kids fr crner kicks r ther restarts.
