6 Helping with Transition Knowing the changes that occur, what challenges might your players face and what might their needs be across the 4 corners? Technical Psychological Physical Social More decisions, more space width/depth, teamwork, units of play, timings of run, positions?, resilience, motivation, confidence, external pressures (particularly at 11v11), listening, co-operation, negotiation, awareness, rules of the game, pass back, free kicks, formations, subs, equal playing time, squad size

7 Pitch sizes Transition from Mini Soccer 9v9 11v11 Awareness and recognition that younger children should be playing smaller formats of the game than currently. The transition from 7v7 to 11v11 is a massive jump that proves difficult for some children and adults. Children at U11 playing 11v11 can play on the same size pitch as a 26- year old professional player! The size of the pitch has implications for children in many ways including who gets picked to play and the type of football that is played.

10 7v Formation Understanding Working with Teams Central and left sided defenders with an advanced central midfield player and two strikers Offers good cover and balance at the back with three defenders involved Central midfield player can sit deep or play in a more advanced position Plenty of opportunity for strikers to combine Formation Understanding Two defenders with a deep lying midfield player, left and right sided wide players and a central striker Offers cover and balance at the back Midfield player protects the two defenders Left and right wide midfield players create width when attacking
