2 Welcome to SB Frankfort AFC As an existing member or a new joiner, welcome to one of the longest established Clubs in Plymouth! Congratulations on choosing SB Frankfort. This welcome guide will hopefully give you an insight into the club, who we are, what we do, what we offer our players within the club as well as what we expect from the players and the parents. A brief account of the club s history SB Frankfort started as a result of a local business in 1977.

3 A brief account of the club s history SB Frankfort started as a result of a local business in The Signal Box was a shop that sold train sets amongst other things and was located in Frankfort Gate in the city centre. Thanks to the generosity of the proprietor in sponsorship, SB Frankfort was born. There was also the Signal Box team which has now become part of SB Frankfort and as such has also achieved Charter Standard. Throughout the long history of SB Frankfurt AFC, the club has seen many young people play football, working their way through the different age groups until eventually some staying with football and progressing to over 18s teams. For many that has meant an association with the club throughout the majority of their childhood as they have been happy to stay with the club, such has been their positive experience of what we offer and how we done things. If you ask many adults these days about their childhood in football some will tell you that they played for the club and most will have heard about us having been established for so long. Many of the young people who have played for the club in the past are now parents and bring their own children to the club; such was their positive experience of playing for us and what we gave them in return and they now want their children to join.

4 Who s who in SB Frankfort AFC Everyone involved with the SB Frankfort teams and the committee are all volunteers, giving up their time to enable young people to play the glorious game of football, develop their skills in the game and have fun in the process. 5 Charter Standard Club The FA Charter Standard Program provides recognition that clubs are well run and sustainable, with child protection and safety being paramount. It also recognises a club's commitment to coaching, player and coach development, and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game - all of which are big priorities for both SB Frankfort and The FA. SB Frankfort AFC is proud to say that we have achieved the charter standard and continue to ensure that our standards are high so that we can provide fun, safe and quality football activities for our players and all our volunteers involved. All our managers and coaches are FA Qualified to do what they do as well as having attended safeguarding children and first response first aid training. Safeguarding Children The safety and wellbeing of our players and volunteers is our highest priority. Anyone involved in our activities that involve contact with children and young people complete an enhanced disclosure through the FA and the disclosure and barring service. People who should not be working with children will not be able to volunteer for the club. Safeguarding children is everybody s business and if you have any safeguarding/child protection concerns about any of our players or volunteers, weather to do with football or even outside of football, please contact our welfare officer who will be happy to discuss your concerns. Likewise, players can talk to their manager or request to speak to the welfare officer at any time if there is something or someone they are not happy with and wish to talk about it and it can be about someone involved with football or outside of football. Regarding volunteering, individuals with reprimands, cautions and convictions not relating to children does not necessarily mean

6 that you cannot get involved. Each individual case will be assessed with a common sense approach, taking into account the seriousness of the conviction and the length of time that has passed since the offence took place. We seek advice from the FA and the DBS and many people with past convictions for minor offences go on to become volunteers in football. If you would like to discuss becoming a volunteer, please contact the club s welfare officer. FA Respect Guidelines The FA sets out guidance on how players, officials and even parents should behave in football. It s common sense really but unfortunately from time to time people have to be reminded about fair play, sportsmanship and learning some self-control. We take a zero tolerance approach to abusive behaviour, either by players or officials and parents as our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of the players who come to enjoy football safely, without fear of abuse from anyone else. We will vigorously and robustly challenge anyone being abusive and take the necessary action by reporting incidents to the Devon FA. When you sign up as a player, you and your parent/carer must agree to view the FA Respect guidance information and video available online and abide by the rules. 7 What you can expect from us All the volunteers at SB Frankfort AFC have a real enthusiasm to encourage and motivate players to be the best that they can be. We offer the sharing of our vast collective knowledge and experiences in sport and we will strive and make every effort to ensure that we provide a safe, enjoyable, mentally stimulating and physically challenging experience for all of our players. Of course we want to win games and that is our aim but also we recognise that there are many other aspects to football that we also encourage, such as the enjoyment of the game, team spirit and working together as a team and playing fairly with control and self-discipline. Each team member is of equal importance and we rely on each other s commitment to turn up regularly and on time and play to the best of their ability. We supply the SB Frankfort AFC football kits in our team colours for the players. The kits consist of shorts, tops and socks in our team colours. We expect you to supply your own: Shin Pads Sports bag Water Bottle with drink Waterproof Coat Hat/Gloves (for winter training) Any medication you may need Any lost or damaged kit will be replaced by the club at your own expense.

8 What we expect from you Players To enjoy your football, have fun as well as develop your skills. Commitment and dedication to football, the managers and coaches and your fellow team players. Abide by the behaviour rules and show respect, self-discipline, self-control, enthusiasm and a positive attitude at all times both in football and outside of football. Promote the good things about the club to others. Organise your lifts to games and training in advance Turn up to games and training on time - Early is best Have the correct kit, drink and any medication you may need. Your kit is clean and represents the high standards of the club. Have your weekly subscription payment with you. Let your manager know if you are unable to attend as soon as possible as your team depends on you. What we expect from you Parents/Carers The most important criteria we expect from the parents/carers of our players are: You commit to responsibly and positively supporting your child to enable your child to participate in playing for his/her team at matches and attending training and ensure that they are adequately equipped to do so for a whole season it is a lengthy commitment and that you commit to positively support

9 your child s team when spectating and that you have viewed the FA s Respect video online and make a commitment to abide by the rules of behaviour expected from parents. Some specific reminders as part of these commitments are: Ensure your child has transport for his/her team commitments such as games, training and other events such as social events, presentations or tournaments organised by the club. Ensure your child has their subscription money and the correct kit and safety wear such as shin pads and correctly fitting boots, waterproof coat etc. Ensure you have told the club about any medical needs of your child, what medication they will bring and who to contact if we need to get hold of you. Ensure you contact the team manager as soon as possible if your child cannot attend. The team is relying on your child. If you have a concern about something to do with the club, talk to us about it. We are here to support your child to play football, excel in their skills and confidence and have fun in the process and anything that we can do and is possible and practical to do to enhance this, we will try to do it! When your child signs to play for SB Frankfort AFC for the season, you will also be asked to sign the form to give your consent that your child has your permission to play and that you abide by the standards of the club as set out in this welcome booklet and the Respect Guidelines, including viewing the online video.

Information required by us to safeguard your child In order for us to do everything we can to ensure the welfare of your child whilst attending football games and training, we will need to make sure

10 Information required by us to safeguard your child In order for us to do everything we can to ensure the welfare of your child whilst attending football games and training, we will need to make sure that we have your contact details and the contact details of a second responsible adult in case you are not available if we contact you. If your child is sick or gets injured for example and we cannot get hold of you, we will need to contact someone else. Rest assured that if we could not contact a parent/carer or responsible adult, then we would take care of your child until you could arrive to collect him/her. We also need details of any medical conditions for our awareness and any medication needed, for example an asthma pump which we would expect your child to have with them at any time. Your child would administer their own medication. We will also ask your permission relating to things like photographs and video which might be taken/recorded within football and also in relation to the participation in any tournaments, trips and social activities organised by the club. These details are on our form which is the recommended form specified by the Football Association (FA). You will also have to sign a Devon FA registration form at the same time to register your child with the club and give your permission as stated in this guide.

11 SB Frankfort AFC Professional Progressive - Passionate At SB Frankfort AFC we are always looking forward to the future and learning from the past. We continually look to improve what we offer, what we do and how we can achieve that. An important part of the process is listening to our players and our parents as well as keeping up to date with Best Practice and the ever changing rules in football and keeping all of our managers and coaching volunteers up to date with their football coaching, first aid and safeguarding children qualifications. Our players are our highest priority and we are committed to providing an enjoyable, safe and exciting experience where players and parents are proud to be part of our club.
