3 Arlington SA Mission & Vision ASA Mission Statement: The Arlington Soccer Association provides quality soccer programs and people of all abilities, backgrounds and financial means to encourage promote a love for the game, and advance soccer in Arlington and communities. ASA Vision Statement: Arlington Soccer Association will be an inclusive soccer organization that to soccer. We are dedicated to continually developing our programs, facilities so participants have the opportunity to learn, have fun, and potential. 3

4 Development Academy Overview The U.S. Development Academy is a league created and managed directly by the United States Soccer Federation since 2007 to improve the everyday training / competition environment to develop world-class players. Development Academy is the highest competitive League in the US The Academy Program's philosophy is based on increased training, less total games, and more meaningful games using international rules of competition. The Academy values individual development of elite players over winning trophies and titles The Academy is the feeder system to the US Soccer Youth National Teams Less than 160 clubs in the United States have been accepted into the US Development Academy Arlington Soccer is among 0.01% of US Clubs with US Soccer Development Academy membership. 4

5 Development Academy Overview We will have teams in 3 age groups to compete in the US Soccer Development Academy during the season U12 (2006) 9v9 Play: Mid-Atlantic Division U13 (2005) 11v11 Play: North-Atlantic Division U14 (2004) 11v11 Play: North-Atlantic Division Minimum Coaching Licensing for Staff Academy Director: USSF A License Academy Coach: USSF B License Our objective is to works towards adding more age groups for season. 5

7 U12 Development Academy Program Rosters: player pool Game Format: 2-9v9 games, 2x30 min. halves, 1 ref per game Games are played concurrently or back to back Players can only play in 1 game per day Game day roster is fluid and can change weekly Developmental players: Non DA player may train with Academy and play up to 6 games (e.g. U11 or U12 CCL players) Developmental players may become full time players Mostly Local Games 7

8 U12 Development Academy Program Weekly Soccer schedule framework: Training: minimum of 3 times per week Rest: Minimum of 2 off days per week Games: 13 Fall season games and 15 Spring season games Outside Competition: No participation in other soccer competitions/training Avoid early specialization (positions, balance activity with other sports/activities) 9.5 month season increases the amount of meaningful training and game time for country s most committed players 8

9 U12 Development Academy Program Game Day Environment: Game day focus on player performance, rather than match result 9v9 format enhances development of attacking and defensive elements 50% minimum game time; unlimited substitutions U.S. Soccer Player Safety Initiative- Concussion substitution rule is in effect No standings or postseason to de-emphasize results, & encourage individual performance Respect the game, opposition, spectators, refs & coaches Home team will provide Athletic Trainer for ALL HOME GAMES & will have to setup hydration tables, tents and benches for both teams 9

Advanced defensive/offensive team tactical knowledge Team formation is not the most important element The most important element is the style of play that has been applied throughout the program Creative and Offensive (Possession style oriented) All the players are asked to think and play with a purpose. 22

24 Integral Education Overview Physical Training: Specific physical goals for each developmental phase. Progression from basic motor skills to fine motor skills to enhanced player development Speed, agility and coordination will be worked through games and small sided-exercises in the developmental phase Exercises for prevention and care of injuries introduced in the training sessions 24

26 Training Session Objectives Players master technical-tactical skills Players learn tactical responses to the changing game situations Players acquire an age appropriate soccer specific fitness level and motor development Players train with as much intensity as possible Players follow / learn team s rules and habits set by the coach Players enjoy every session! 26

27 Game Day Objectives Players will be encouraged to play an offensive and creative soccer based on keeping possession of the ball and building the attacking plays from the back Players will be encouraged to take risks on the field without having fear of making a mistake Players always play with a purpose and learn to think on the field We try to WIN every game applying the concepts learned, playing good soccer and with fair play 27
