Fixture Reports -Week of 19th to 25 th February- Hockey 1 st XI v George Watson s College (A) 2-3 Unlike in previous games, we started with great intensity and work rate, in marking and in leading ahead of the ball. This resulted in a quick first goal, which was well constructed by the midfield and strikers linking up together. We then conceded a sloppy goal due to lack of composure, which caused us to give the ball away softly. We then scored another team goal with great play from Peter L and Jack S and a great finish from Finlay M. Eventually however, we fatigued and made some poor decisions on the ball, which again led to conceding goals. Unfortunately, we lost but we feel that we can take many positives from the game. The MVP was Hamish S. 1 st XI Girls v Glasgow Academy: Plate Match (H) 1-1 (lost on running penalties) Despite not being in hockey season, we managed to fit in one practice before this cup match against Glasgow Academy who play 3 terms of hockey. Taking this into consideration, our performance was strong and we managed to slip back into the swing of playing together as a team, and supporting each other over the pitch. Rosie U and Rachael D worked well together in the midfield. We equalised with their one goal from an incredible deflection in the air from Gemma D A. Due to being 1-1 at final time, we went to running penalties, which we sadly lost on however; I was pleased with our overall performance and the effort that the whole team put into this match, after not playing hockey since before Christmas. In addition, very well done to the players who bravely stood up to take the running penalties, as it was very pressurising. 2 nd XI v George Watson s College (A) 2-2 Overall the 2 nd XI played well as a team. A slightly slow start meant we were down by the end of the first half; however, some goals from Zak R and Fraser H meant we were able to pull it back in the second half. Strong defensive work from Monty H and Zeyd C gave us a strong grounding for scoring goals. We still have work to do to improve on some of the core skills, however still playing an unbeaten season we should be pleased with the outcome. The MVP was Monty H.

4 th XI v Stewart s Melville College (H) 3-1 We started our match slow and unfortunately went we down early 0-1. Then as we began to wear out their stamina; we put on the pressure on them, with Archie D and Barnaby D pushing up against their defence. Then in the final 10 minutes of the game; Archie D scored an amazing hat-trick out of nowhere, with the hat-trick goal being a beautiful reverse hit, soaring into the bottom corner. There were also many penetrating attacks from Hlib S and a rock-solid defence from Marcus C. The MVP was Archie D. Colts A XI v Stewart s Melville College (H) 7-1 A very good improvement from the earlier fixture this session when we lost 5-2. This time we really performed well, opening the fixture with a reverse hit from Ollie N straight into the bottom right corner. We then intercepted the ball in midfield keeping them from getting it. This enabled us to score with very little threat to our own goal. This was a very good all-round performance, working well to stop them from transferring, with Fettes dominating in the midfield. The MVP was Ollie N. Colts B XI v Merchiston (A) 1-6 We started off on a sunny Tuesday and still with the feeling of half-term there was a lot of talk and not much focus on the pitch. We started conceding and ended up with 5 goals being scored before half time. In the second half, we started to focus more which resulted in 1 goal being scored against us and 1 goal being scored by Nick M. We know now to focus on the game and not sell ourselves short. The MVP was Finn S for strong tackles and good clearances up field. Colts B XI v Stewart s Melville College (H) 3-0 We pushed back then the game began. With strong defence, the opposition got few shots on goal and we were able to keep possession mainly in the oppositions half. Nick M scored 2 goals in the first half and Ari Jenkins scored a goal in the second half. The opposition were not able to shoot, resulting in a 3-0 win for Fettes. The MVP was Zach T for strong defence and block tackles.

Lacrosse 1 st XII v Loretto (A) 12-6 The Fettes 1 st XII have improved hugely from our first game against Loretto; our transitions were textbook perfect and were the highlight of the match starting from Charlotte B s goalie clears to Cora S in midfield to Jacqui E and Jules R in attack, which enabled us to have one v one against the goalie, leading to our success. The most valuable player was Cora S for excellent drives and transitions down the pitch and Sophie H for getting the ball quickly from the draw. This was great preparation for Nationals later on in the week. 2 nd XII v St Leonards School (A) 6-12 It was a tough match from the start, as we were playing a team above us, and had many injured players. The first half was quite scrappy, with St. Leonards scoring in the first few minutes. However, after a good half time talk, we improved our play greatly, focusing on sliding on to players in defence, and communicating more. Although this was not our best game, we can take a lot from it to improve on for next time. The MVP was Lydia L. 3 rd XII v Loretto (A) 12-7 With a very even first half, which ended 6-6, we knew we had to have a strong second half to win the match. With some great running up the pitch from Ellie M, and some excellent work in attack from Rachael D and Iona C, we managed to score multiple goals. There was also some great communication in defence which meant that it was very difficult for Loretto to get through, proving a much stronger second half. The MVP s were Lydia L and Louisa L. 4 th XII v Loretto (A) 12-2 Some excellent goals scored by Alina and Lily, with great play overall from the team. The MVP was Jemma D A.

U15A XII v Loretto (H) 10-5 We had a great game against Loretto in our determining match of the season, having lost one and won one against them. We were determined to succeed with our Captain unfortunately at the side-lines. We had improved greatly from our first match and worked on the areas that we had identified we need work on, thanks to the great advice and coaching of Miss McCosh. In the first half we worked hard in attack with some great goals from Zara W, Isabella S and Jennifer M. With some solid defending from Flora A, Catherine M and Abby R, Loretto only managed to score 2 goals. In the second half we played well but Loretto managed to break through our defence leading to a further 3 goals. Amaya L made a great number of runs and interceptions throughout. Overall it was a great match and fantastic effort from all. The most valuable player is Zara W for her great work in attack. U15B XII v Loretto (H) 4-3 This was a very close and nerve-wracking match. We did incredibly well to come together as a team and be victorious. Erika K impressed us all with her strong, persistent defending and Lucy R showed much grit and determination when competing with the opposition for ground balls. The team chose Izzy T as our most valuable player of the match, due to her impressive stick skills and consistently high standard of play. U15C XII v Longridge Towers (H) 6-9 The team played very well overall, with excellent defending from Kalina K and great play from Flora F. We were doing well the first half but have some skills and catching to improve on before our next match. Longridge were a great opposition and the match was very close. Doga A was MVP for her excellent attacking skills and goals. U15C XII v Loretto (H) 14-4 The whole team played really well together, working hard to get the ball up the pitch. A special mention to Emma K for her great runs up the pitch and many goals and Isobel A for her strong catches in defence. The MVP was Doga A.

U14B XII v Loretto (H) 7-7 The U14B s had a very exciting game against Loretto on Saturday, with end to end play and a stream of goals from both teams. Delilah P and Kirsty M worked tirelessly in midfield, working hard to help the attack and defence, especially when Loretto had a strong attack. The team performed some well worked goals, thanks to Eppie M working the ball behind goal well, passing into the fan to allow a strong attack. Well done to all the girls involved, in what was an extremely tiring and high energy match. The MVP was Kira K for keeping the score line level, with a number of fantastic saves throughout the match. U14C XII v Longridge Towers (H) 9-4 Our game against Longridge Towers was a competitive match with the score being 4-4 at half time. In the second half, the team worked hard to ensure no goals were scored against them. Special mention goes to Tulla B for constant effort and long runs from one end of the pitch to the other. Caroline B and Leila F worked really hard in defence. Big thanks to the U14B s who helped out in the match, we were very fortunate to be able to play alongside them. The MVP s were Kira K and Freya B. Netball 1 st VII v Old Fettesians (H) Won The OF s match is usually anticipated as a relaxed match however it was obvious this year our opposition haven t missed out any university netball clubs/teams, and were determined to beat us. We were quintessentially playing half a university team, however this didn t put us out of our cheery mood and only encouraged us to work harder to beat them. To make their travel back to the school worthwhile, we played an extra couple of 10 minutes. Ines H and some others did very well to play the whole match and keep up their fitness. The match was very friendly and it was great to see so many of last year s 1 st team still keeping up with the netball even through and into university. The MVP was Ines H. 2 nd VII v Penicuik High School (A) This was another frustrating loss for us, as we were playing well as a team and unfortunately let Penicuik get an early lead. We were hoping to catch up, but in the end we didn t manage. Jules M did a great job as goal keep for the team and really put pressure on their shooters to score. While India M did an amazing job at scoring many goals for us. We know what we can do to improve for our next match and know that we did play well but it just wasn t reflected in the score. The MVP was India M.

2 nd VII v Mary Erskine (H) 35-6 This was a really good win for us as we ve lost most of our matches this term. The whole team was playing really well and the team morale was boosted by the constant stream of goals we were scoring. India M stood out as player of the match for her excellent shooting, however, the whole team played amazingly together and all deserve some credit. There are still aspects that we can improve on, but this win has given us the confidence boost that we needed to show that we can play well as a team and come out with a win. Football Girls U15 XI Girls v St George s (H) 12-0 We started off well playing the ball into space and not long after the beginning, we scored our first goal. By the half time, we had scored 5 more goals. During the second half of the game we brought the score up to Special mention to Ianthe F for playing well in goal and the team were all thankful for the support that we were given. The MVP was Delilah P. Squash U16 v Edinburgh Academy (H) 2-3 With some of the usual team away, we had Joe W playing his first squash match. He had a close match but lost 1-3. Robbie lost 0-3, and so did Harry. Tommy had a very exciting game and won 3-1, with Catherine winning 3-0. It was a shame to lose, but there were some very good games. The MVP was Joe W for playing well in his first squash match. Fives 1 st IV Girls v Open Girls Scottish Schools Championships (H) See Report In the cup Eve H and Catriona S 1 st pair, narrowly lost in the final 2-1 with India M stepping in in the last game due to injury. Our 2nd pair Scarlett G and India M played extremely well and got through to the cup but unfortunately got knocked out in the second round against the overall winners. Our 3rd pair Colette K-L and Cora S got through to the plate but played superbly, especially as this was their first time playing. It was noticeable the amount of improvement that s been made throughout the year and sets us up perfectly for our next match. The MVP was Eve H.
