The curriculum for 2016 is devised to give all players an opportunity to develop their technical ability/football skills. With this mind set the curriculum has been developed around the four core areas of football technique that will help our young players develop, these are : Ball Manipulation Spatial Awareness Passing Running with the Ball
3 Training Overview U6 & U7 Training Focus The training sessions in this curriculum are based on activities provided by the Junior Framework training model which consists of 4 key components. This will ensure that all players are exposed to training sessions that inspire and motivate them to develop the necessary skills to become competent and enthusiastic about the game. All training sessions are designed to maximise opportunities for players to touch the ball and interact with others. The session s emphasis is built around Small Sided Games for the following main reasons: 1. Players become more aware of others and start to understand how and when to use each other within a game context. 2. Players are able to practice the skills learnt through the football co-ordination and football technique activities in the context of the game. 3. The game environment allows the players the freedom to explore. 4. Small Sided Games allow players to understand the basic concepts of attack and defence. 5. The game facilitates situations that allow players to be successful or make mistakes and learn (the game is the best teacher). 4 Junior Framework 4 Key Components General Movement Coordination activities fundamental for developing effective football performance Provides a broader foundation that allows children to learn complex movements later Agility, Balance, Coordination Football Coordination Players use their imagination and incorporate a lot of contact with the ball Activities used to increased comfort on the ball All parts of the foot and body used with maneuvering the ball Football Technique Core techniques applied/developed Dribbling is focus for younger players Motivational games that excite and allow the players to succeed Lots of touches of the ball Small Sided Games SSG s motivate players more than any other activity SSG s should meet developmental needs of the players SSG s involve decision making SSG s allow application of players individual skills
5 FOOTBULL RUSH (GENERAL MOVEMENT) 1. Create an area up to 20m x 20m. Modify the size depending on the number of players 2. All players start at one end of the area with a ball each, except for one defender, who starts inside the area but has no ball 1. On your call of Footbull Rush the attackers attempt to dribble their ball past the defender in the middle of the pitch and stop on the opposite end line 2. The defender tries to tackle as many players as possible, or even kick their ball out of the area 3. If an attacker has their ball intercepted or taken from them they join the defender(s) in the middle of the pitch 4. The last attacker remaining wins the game BASIC: Make the pitch smaller Add another defender at the start Dribbling and changing direction with close ball control Keeping head up for awareness of space and other players while dribbling Players ability to use their body to protect the ball while under pressure 7
6 BOX TO BOX (FOOTBALL COORDINATION) 1. Set up two 10m x 15m areas. Modify the size depending on the number of players 2. Every player has a ball and starts inside the same area 1. 7 TERMINATOR (FOOTBALL TECHNIQUE) 1. Using four cones create an area up to 20m x 20m Modify the size depending on the number of players 2. All players start inside the area with a ball each, except for the terminator, who starts inside the area but has no ball 1. Players with the ball dribble around the area shielding their ball from the terminator 2. The terminator attempts to tackle the other players to take the ball from them 3. If tackled the player must get their ball and stand still with it, with their legs apart 4. The other players can free a tackled player by passing their own ball through their legs, allowing them to re-join the game. 5. After 1 ½ mins. A new terminator is chosen and the game re-starts BASIC: The terminator must dribble the ball from the square, but not kick it away, after a tackle Add another terminator Dribbling and changing direction with close ball control Keeping head up for awareness of space and other players while dribbling Players ability to use their body to protect the ball while under pressure 58

In this SSG the teams score by passing the ball through the two goals they are attacking 2. They can only score a long range goal by being in the central shooting zone 3. When a team scores, they retreat, allowing the opposition to start play from the goal line 4. There are no throw ins, rather the ball is passed in ADVANCED: Players can only use their non-dominant foot Specify the number of players that have to touch the ball before a goal is scored Dribbling and changing direction with the head up Passing over short and long distances Dribbling using different parts of the foot Basic awareness of other players Changing direction of play 63
