The U19 Boys Football team are unbeaten this season. They topped this off by deservedly winning the Division 2 SEASAC title, promoting them to Division 1 for The boys won all 5 group games gaining maximum points, scoring 23 goals in the process and conceding only 4. They played Alice Smith in a tense final and Captain Julian Amani scored a hat trick to help the team win 4-3. The boys can feel very proud of their achievements. A superb season and well deserved winners. We are all very proud of you. 11
From the Athletic Director As I write this, I am busy watching the U15 Girls Basketball team compete at the U15 FOBISIA Games at the British School, Manila. What's very clear watching our students in action is the importance for our students to be given opportunities not only to excel but to represent the school against other International Schools allowing them to foster a sense of belonging to something much bigger than themselves. In the the past 48 hours at British School, Manila I have had fantastic conversations with former GIS principal Simon Mann, whom many of you may remember, as well as many former GIS teachers. What strikes me is the fondness they speak of about the school and it is clear to see that GIS holds a soft spot for all those who have been part of its history. Last week the U19 Boys Football team achieved something quite incredible. Not only remaining unbeaten throughout the season but the finale resulting in being crowned SEASAC Division 2 Champions. The boys can be very proud of their achievements. 12
U19 Girls achieve highest position ever at SEASAC The U19 Girls Football team produced a stunning set of performances at the Division 1 SEASAC Football Tournament and finished 4th Place overall. This secured the girls position in the top division of SEASAC Football and they will be joined by the U19 Boys team in
This was it. We trained the whole season, improving with each session and fixture, so that we were the best we could be for the SEASAC tournament. There were a few things different this year. First and foremost, we were missing our beloved coach, Mr. Bygroves. On a more positive note, another difference was that we broke the 'unlucky streak' of losing the first game of SEASAC - in other words we started off the tournament by beating BPS 1-0!!! After securing 3 points on the leaderboard, we continued to keep improving but unfortunately both TTS and CDNIS were the better teams. The second day was the big day, it determined our placing on the leaderboard. Our loss to UWCD in the morning meant that we needed to win our last game. And sure enough, we did with a solid 5-1 victory! Needless to say that all our (both players and coaches) hard work and effort paid off as we came away from the tournament placing 4th which continues to be the highest a GIS girls football team has been placed in SEASAC division 1. 14
U15 FOBISIA leave for Games in Manila. Day 1 Departure: The 34 Selected students arrived at GIS for a 6am bus departure for KLIA 2. After a pleasant flight the team touched down in Manila, checked into the F1 hotel and celebrated their arrival with a team meal before heading off to bed for an early night. 15
Day 2 Athletics: The Athletics Team took centre stage first on Day 1 of the games and performed superbly in the hot morning sun. Harun Knight produced arguably the performance of the games jumping 1m 83 in the Boys High Jump competition. Moreover, the Girls 4x100m relay produced a season's best performance to win gold against a strong KLASS team. 16
U11 Girls Basketball make ISAC Final
On Saturday 5th November, two teams of ten girls went to Alice Smith to take part in the U11 girls basketball competition. One team entered the ISAC league and the other entered the developmental league. We turned up to the competition confident that we could do well. Throughout the morning, both teams were undefeated and ended up top of their tables. This meant that the B team had won the developmental league and the A team were into the final of ISAC. The final was played against Alice Smith, a team we had beaten earlier in the day. It was a very intense match and the scores were very close throughout. In the last few minutes, Alice Smith managed to score two baskets which ended up winning the game Both teams played excellently throughout the tournament and were fantastic representatives for GIS dragons. The girls have been a real pleasure to coach and throughout training have demonstrated enthusiasm, commitment and perseverance. Well done! 18
