1 Topic: Passing and Receiving for Possession Technical Warm up Coaching Pts. Small Sided Game Exp. Small Sided Game Groups of 3 Passing & Receiving: 12 Players divided into 4 Groups of 3 3 Players pass and move with one soccer ball 3 touch: receive, set & pass 2 touch: receive & pass 1 touch: pass 3 seconds max in one area. Throughout this exercise all players shall be in constant communication. Time 15 minutes 4v4 to Four Small Goals: In a 30x35 yd. grid with two small 3 feet cone goals on each of the 35 yard lines, near each corner. Each team defends and attacks two goals. If playing with 4 players, the attacking shape should be a diamond. If attacking with five players, the attacking shape should be a 3-2 or Time 15 minutes 5v5/6v6 to Six Goal Game: Players divided in two teams Play 6v6 with six goals located on end lines; each team attacks & defends three. Teams score points by dribbling or passing through goals. 2 Topic: Using Your First Touch to Escape Pressure Technical Warm up Coaching Pts. In and Out: Passing and receiving In a 30x30 yard grid, the coach separates the technique players into 2 groups. A group of players, the Proper 1 st touch (preparation Outsiders without soccer balls, spread out touch) around the perimeter of the grid. The Insiders are the group with soccer balls. o do not stop the ball The Insiders players dribble around o prep touch to pass and look for an outside player to pass Vision to locate outside their soccer ball to. players The Outsiders player now dribbles in and becomes an Inside player while the former Inside player finds a place on the Outside. 3 Topic: When to Dribble and When to Pass Technical Warm up Coaching Pts. Dribbling Square: In a defined grid, half the players stand outside the perimeter, each without a ball. Players with balls are in the middle of the grid and start by dribbling to outside players. Small Sided Game Exp. Small Sided Game Dribble from one side to the other and execute a takeover Dribble from your line past middle & make a pass. After the pass, press the dribbler At the middle, execute a 1v1 move, accelerate and pass Throughout this exercise all players shall be 4v4/5v5 Attacking Gates (20 min): Players divided into two teams Play 5v5 with a series of small gates on the field. Teams score points by dribbling through gates. Teams score points by dribbling or passing through goals. 4 Topic: Defending (Pressure and Cover) Technical Warm up Coaching Pts. Partners with a Ball : Players pass to member of other color and move to receive return pass Activity 2 Activity 3 after 5-8 yard pass: press sideways on & send opponent opposite direction of his first touch after 5-8 yard pass: press sideways on & try to gain possession of ball with block tackle, poke tackle, body or shoulder close down slow down get down stay down 2v2 w/small goals(20 min): Each field shall have 10 players; 2v2 on the field and 3 players waiting for next duel. After 2v2 a player goes back to original starting position and other player starts on opposite side. This allows players to have many different partners throughout. Play with Offsides Approx. 20 yd. x 15 yd. 4v4-5v5 to 4 Goals: The midfield line is the restraining line (offside line). Each team attempts to score in one of the 2 goals opposite them. Work with one of the teams to help them maintain the flat shape of the defending action. Play with Off- sides Pressing Defender Speed of approach-approach fast arrive slow Angle of approach-we want to direct the player one way on the field, take away option of advancing forward Body shape-knees bent, on balls of feet, one foot slightly angled in front of other foot Decision to delay and/or to win possession of the ball Covering defender 2 nd defenders must recognize their responsibilities to cover the 1 st defender as the ball is traveling to opponent (1 st attacker) Be positioned so that if the 1 st defender gets beat with the dribble, you can become the 1 st defender immediately Cover dangerous space between 1 st defender and you; cannot allow a penetrating pass to split you and the 1 st defender! Stay connected to 1 st defender Communication with 1 st defender Visual cues to regain ball Type of first touch from opponent Heavy touch, step in and win it Close touch, respect play Pop up, step in and win it Read the first touch and decide quickly Game Coaching Pts.
