1 Eye of the tiger Congrats Seniors In this issue: LHS Football News 1-3 The Eye of the Tiger Newsletter would like to thank all of our outgoing Seniors for another great season of Tiger Football. This years Seniors were a part of the first class to finish their high school playing careers with three winning seasons since the early 1990s. The coaching staff and the Lawrenceburg Tiger Football Program will remember this group as the one who helped the Tigers back into their winning ways. Congratulations Seniors, and good luck in all of your future endeavors. Academic All State Two Lawrenceburg Tiger football players were awarded with Academic All State Plaques during the Football Banquet. In order to receive this honor a Student Athlete must be a contributing starter for his team while also maintaining a 3.75 GPA. The two winners were Mitch Martin and Matt Kirk. Congratulations to both on their achievement. 3 Eye of the tiger Construction Update Construction continues on the new gymnasium and it seems the project is moving along as scheduled. The hope is that the gym is open in August for the school year and football season. We hope the weather cooperates and allows this to happen. The outside of the building is starting to shape up and the downstairs football area taking form. Wall are up, and the coaches office, showers, and outline of the locker rooms look like they are close to being finished. Items that we hope to know more about in our next edition will include, the surface of the Pit, weight room layout, and the new administration wing. 6 Goodbye to coach Tony Big Kat Jackson High School: East Central High School College: Indiana State Coaching Position: Defensive Line Experience: 13 years Tony Jackson, know to everyone as Big Kat has decided to retire from coaching. Tony spent his first eight years coaching at his alma matter East Central High School. During that time he was in charge of coaching the Freshman Defense and assisting the Varsity Defensive Line. Big Kat was brought from East Central down to Lawrenceburg in 2011 and has been the Varsity Defensive Line coach during his entire time with the program. During his time as a coach Big Kat has been involved with many successful teams. In his time as a coach at East Central and Lawrenceburg he has been a coach on teams that have won a combined 10 EIAC Conference Championships, 5 Sectional Championships, 1 Regional Championship, and one Final Four Appearance. Big Kat has also had the opportunity to coach many outstanding Defensive Lineman during his time at East Central and Lawrenceburg. Big Kat has coached multiple Defensive Lineman who have been awarded for their play. These include 13 EIAC All Conference, 2 Indiana Region 10 All Star, and 1 All State Defensive Lineman. Outside of his duties as a coach Big Kat has also been the handyman for both East Central and Lawrenceburg. During his time Big Kat has spent many hours behind the scenes helping to build and repair much of the field equipment both programs used. Big Kat s favorite duty though was being in charge of Game Day Transportation. During his time as a coach he was in charge of transporting the players and teams equipment to and from away games. Big Kat said that his favorite part of coaching was always being around the coaches and players. In retirement he plans to spend more time on his hobbies, making turkey calls and training his squirrel dog Trail, but still plans on being around Lawrenceburg football as one of their best supporters. The Lawrenceburg coaching staff would like to thank Big Kat for everything that he did in helping the program reach a championship level again.
