Register nline in the LAGSD RefereeSchedule system. Returning referees have that inf n file. New referees t the club will need t prvide a SSN. Prvide yur availability nline in the LAGSD RefereeSchedule system. Please keep in mind: Yu must arrive at the field at least 20 minutes prir t yur assigned game time. If yu are als a sccer player, please be sure t allw adequate travel time t and frm yur scheduled away games and additinal time in case yur game starts late r runs late due t stppage time. Yu can make changes in yur availability using the same scheduling link hwever if yur schedule changes after yu have been assigned games yu will need t cntact me. Newly licensed referees will mainly be assigned t yunger (U8 and U10) recreatinal games. In mst cases, yu will be assigned at least tw games back t back at the same field. Occasinally yu may be assigned a single game r mre games depending n the game schedules and general referee availability. If needed, referees may be assigned games at multiple fields. Assignments depend n tw factrs: Yur availability this is a very key factr. If yu have larger blcks f time (3 r mre cntinuus hurs) yu will have a greater chance t be assigned games vs a referee with 1-2 hurs f availability fr a given day. Senirity returning referees in gd standing that have been wrking in the prgram fr tw r mre years. Schedules will be cnfirmed n a weekly basis by Tuesday prir t Saturday assignments. Yu will receive yur schedule by and text alert (if set up) and yu will need t cnfirm EACH game in the system. Games must be cnfirmed n later than Thursday nn. VERY IMPORTANT the day befre and day f games, if yu are unable t referee yur cnfirmed games yu must cntact me either by text r phne call. DO NOT . Please prgram my cell phne number and the Recreatinal Directr s cell phne number int yur cell phnes s yu can cntact us at the field with any prblems. Yu shuld try t cntact me first and use the Directr as a backup, if fr sme reasn, I cannt be cntacted. Carlsbad Galaxy referees are paid via paycheck frm the club. Payrll reprts are submitted t the club every tw weeks and checks are typically mailed ut within a week.

2 Please keep in mind that this is a jb and yu have tw teams, their parents and caches depending n yu wrking yur assigned game(s). Yur assignments may be affected if the fllwing situatins ccur: N shw nt shwing up fr an assigned game will autmatically result in frfeiting yur assignments fr the fllwing 4 weeks. Last minute availability changes (less than 3 days befre the game) may negatively impact future assignments. We use a single center referee system fr all recreatinal games. Please refer t the table belw fr game infrmatin and pay scale. Rain unless yu have been ntified therwise, assume yur game will play. Age Grup Birth Year Plays Ball Size Length f Game Referee Fee Under v x 20 minutes $35 Under , v x 25 minutes $40 Under , v x 30 minutes $48 Under , v x 35 minutes $56 Game Rules Games are played by the nrmal rules f sccer with the exceptins utlined belw: U8 and U10 play with a build ut, r play ut, line which is marked n the field and is equidistant between the halfway line and the tp f the penalty bx (see diagram belw). The build ut line prmtes playing the ball ut f the back in a less pressured setting. When the galkeeper has the ball, either during play (frm the ppnent) r frm a gal kick, the ppsing team must mve behind the build ut line until the ball is put int play. Once the ppsing team is behind the build ut line, the galkeeper can pass, thrw r rll the ball int play (punting is nt allwed). After the ball is put int play the ppsing team can crss the build ut line and play resumes as nrmal. Fr U8 and U10 the build ut line will als be used t dente where ffside ffenses can be called. Players cannt be penalized fr an ffside ffense between the halfway line and the build ut line. Players can be penalized fr an ffside ffense between the build ut line and the gal line. 3 U8 and U10 ful thrws 1 st ffense, stp play and actively crrect (demnstrate) and then allw a retry, 2 nd ffense, stp play restate crrect methd and have them retry again, 3 rd ffense give the thrw in t the ppsing team. U8, U10 and U12 intentinal heading f the ball is nt allwed. Make a Gd Impressin at Every Game Knw the Laws Success begins by being prepared. Read and knw the Laws f the Game. Knw the club rules f cmpetitin. Be sure yu have checked ahead f time and knw the length f the half, size f the ball, number f players, special rules fr the level f game that yu have been assigned. Dress and Act Prfessinally If yu expect t cmmand respect n the field, then yu must lk and act like a prfessinal. Apprach the game in a way that shws yu are lking frward t being there and being a part f the game. Dress fr success wear the prper US Sccer unifrm with yur referee jersey tucked in and yur scks pulled up. Wear the unifrm prperly anytime yu can be seen by the players, caches and spectatrs. Prper unifrm includes an fficial jersey, slid black shrts, fficial referee scks, black shes and yur current year (2018 r 2019) USSF badge n the left shirt pcket f yur jersey. Have the prper equipment whistle, watch with a cuntdwn timer, cards, game cin, etc. Take Charge Taking charge des nt mean yelling and acting like a dictatr. This nly encurages peple t yell back at yu. Greet each cach with a firm handshake and a smile. Lk each cach in the eyes. Use cmmn curtesy Thank yu, Please Issue firm, simple instructins t the players s they knw yu are capable f managing the game. Blw clear and sharp whistles. A firm whistle will eliminate 50 percent f arguments. Be decisive in yur calls. Players and caches may try t take advantage f the situatin if yu seem unsure. Be calm. If a cach is yelling at yu, d nt yell back at them. Speak respectfully and quietly, s the cach r player must quiet dwn t hear yu in these situatins. Remain calm when talking t players, but be firm in yur vice and decisins. D nt get int discussins r arguments with the sidelines. Start the game n time. Carlsbad Galaxy fields are tightly scheduled and this is f utmst imprtance.

4 Managing Difficult Situatins D nt take smene yelling at yu persnally. It happens t all referees, even the mst experienced. Dealing with Prblem Caches. If a cach steps ver the bundaries f the game and begins t makes his cmments persnal r abusive, yu must deal with it. Slwly and calmly walk ver t the cach. In a plite and respectful way, infrm the cach that this type f cnduct is unsprting and cntinuing with this type f cnduct will result in his r her remval frm the game. If the behavir cntinues- respectfully and prfessinally ask the cach t leave the field. If the cach refuses t leave, give the cach a warning that if he r she des nt leave, yu will end the game. If the cach des nt leave in a reasnable amunt f time, end the game. Be sure t a detailed reprt f the incident t Gregg and myself the same day. Dealing with Prblem Parents/Spectatrs. D nt speak t the sidelines, instead enlist the supprt f the cach. Ask him t speak with the ffending spectatrs and let him knw that if the behavir cntinues, the game will nt. This will usually be enugh t quiet mst parents (ther parents may understand the cnsequences and help with the prblem spectatr). If the situatin cntinues, ask the cach t have the spectatr leave the area. If the spectatr refuses, tell the cach if the spectatr is nt remved the game will end. Give the cach a few minutes t deal with the situatin. If the spectatr des nt leave, feel free t end the game. Be sure t a detailed reprt f the incident t Gregg and myself the same day. Dealing with Prblem Players. If yu have a difficult player dissenting r ding smething else t disrupt the game, at a stppage f play, warn the player and let them knw that kind f behavir is unacceptable. In the yunger divisins U8 and U10, it may be best t have the cnversatin with the cach and ask the cach t speak with the player. If the player still insists n being difficult, use a well delivered cautin t let them knw yu have just abut reached the limit f what yu are ging t take frm them. It is ften helpful t let the cach knw that this particular player is wearing ut their welcme and may be n the way t a send ff. Give the cach an pprtunity t take care f the prblem fr yu (perhaps by substituting ut this player). If the bad behavir cntinues, issue a secnd cautin and then a send ff (red card). Remember that the prper prcedure fr this is t display the secnd yellw card and then the red.

If I feel that yu are being negative twards myself r anyne n the field I will stp the game and give yu a warning, if yu cntinue t be negative n the sidelines I will stp the game again and ask yu t leave. I really hpe that I d nt have t d any f that and that yu all will respect my decisins. Please sit back and enjy the game.
