1 North Ferriby stop Molescroft in Semi-Final clash YEAR 6 EAST RIDING FINALS AT SOUTH HUNSLEY- OCT 2014 Competing against schools from the East Riding was a bonus for Molescroft s year 6 boys and they were determined to make the most of their opportunity to reach the next round of games. Their first opposition was Howden and defenders Connor Lindsay and Tom Smith were soon in the thick of the action. Keeper Luke Scaife pulled off a brilliant save while under pressure as players from both teams battled hard for possession. With time running out Harrison McGregor laid on a great pass to Harry Armstrong who slotted the ball home for the winning goal of this first game. Martongate came next and once again the teams were evenly matched. Great passing between Harry, Ethan Jacobsen and Harrison almost led to the all important first goal but unfortunately the ball went wide of the post. Connor and Tom contained things at the back and the game ended honours even, 0-0. Determined to win the final game in their group Molescroft came out with all guns blazing and Harrison soon had the ball in the back of the net. Mitch Bellotti hit a great shot which the Bilton keeper managed to kick wide and moments later he also saved an effort from Harrison, leaving the game 1-0 to Molescroft. Molescroft are through to the Humber finals next term. Topping their group unbeaten and with the most points, Molescroft found themselves up against North Ferriby in the semi final. This game proved to be another evenly matched affair with both teams displaying great levels of skill and the whistle blew on a stale mate. Extra time saw Molescroft pushing forward to try to get the winning goal but unfortunately they were caught on the break in the dying moments of the game as Ferriby forced the ball over the goal line to win the game and earn a place in the final. However, all was not lost as Molescroft took to the field against Mount Pleasant in a third fourth play off, the winner to go through to the Humber Finals along with the two finalists. Once again the defensive partnership of Tom and Connor, marshalled by keeper Luke, proved too strong for the opposition and they were unable to score. Sadly for Molescroft their attacks were dealt with admirably and the game ended goalless. With extra time one more, Molescroft were determined to come out on top. Luke pulled off a fantastic save to keep them in the game, then just before the whistle a long looping pass from Mitch enabled Ethan to hit a great half volley into the back of the net. They had done it with a great victory and now have a well deserved place in the Humber Finals next term. Great performances from every player, well done boys. Molescroft beat Mount Pleasant in the third place play off.

BEVERLEY SCHOOLS LEAGUE YEAR 6 16/10/14 In their first outing in this new league, Molescroft paid a visit to St John s and were keen to get off to a good start. Attacking straight from the whistle, they kept possession and with excellent zippy passing from all the visiting players, Mitch Bellotti scored the opening goal of the game, a superb right foot shot fired into the top corner of St John s goal. Molescroft scored again moments later, this time Mitch laid the ball off to Harrison McGregor who slotted the ball into the net. This proved to be a fruitful partnership and Harrison repeated the move to score another. Excellent close marking by Katie Percival teamed with accurate passing with Harry Armstrong ensured Molescroft stayed on top and Harrison scored his hat-trick to make the score 4-0. Following this and just before half time, Mitch and Harrison laid on a great pass to Ethan Jacobsen who increased his team s score to 5. The Moles played in a very sporting manner. strength and team play and further goals soon came from Tom Smith, Ethan, Harry( a fantastic solo run), Connor Lindsay and another 2 from Harrison. Keeper Luke Scaife came up for a corner late on in the game, having had very few touches of the ball as his team were so dominant in this first game. When nothing came of the corner, he scampered back to his position, determined to play his part and keep a clean sheet. The game ended in a resounding 11-0 win to Molescroft which puts them at the head of the league table after the first round of games. An excellent performance from all the players who, although the teams were not evenly matched, played the game in a very sporting manner. Well done everyone. In the second half, St John s had no answer to Molescroft s superior skill, Mitch Bellotti and Harrison McGregor prove to be a fruitful partnership.

3 Molescroft meet their match at Minster BEVERLEY SCHOOLS LEAGUE YEAR 6 6/11/14 Molescroft visited Minster in this second league fixture and with the light fading quickly, playing time was shortened so time was of the essence. Minster got off to a good start, pouncing on Molescroft to gain possession and then attacking in strength. Keeper Luke Scaife and defenders Tom Smith and Connor Lindsay were soon under pressure, but they managed to clear the ball with Niamh Stuart chasing back to help. Harrison McGregor and Ethan Jacobsen had attempts on goal but,unfortunately for Molescroft, the Minster keeper was in fine form and pushed their shots wide. With Molescroft under pressure from a succession of surging attacks the home team managed to slip the ball past Luke to take the lead. Not letting Molescroft dwell on the ball, Minster scored a second, strength in attacking numbers enabling them to get the ball in the net once again. At the other end Molescroft s shots were smothered or pushed wide by the home keeper, clearly having a brilliant game and the half ended 2-0 to Minster. The Minster Goalkeeper foiled all their attempts Determined to find their usual passing game, Molescroft were soon on the attack and Niamh almost scored a goal early on in the half. Unfortunately a defensive mix up at the other end enabled Minster to score another, followed by a fourth to give them a commanding lead. Undaunted, Harry Armstrong, Mitch Bellotti and Harrison all had shots on target but once again the keeper foiled all their attempts. However, after a strong surging run Harrison did manage to slot the ball under the home keeper to score a consolation goal making the final score 4-1 to Minster. Molescroft were tackled strongly for every ball in this match and found it difficult to get into their slick passing game. However, they never gave up and battled well with keeper Luke playing heroically in goal and will no doubt endeavour to turn the tables in their favour in the return home game. Well played everyone. 4 MOLESCROFT PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Molescroft Retain Badminton Cup Molescroft badminton squad managed to retain the inter-school badminton trophy for a fourth year last night. The children walked up to Longcroft sports hall where the competition took place with schools from all over the Beverley area. The children were ranked in squads of 5 and played off against their opposite number in 2 minute sets. During the qualifiers Molescroft was unbeaten against St Nick's; Minster and St John's. Unfortunately we were beaten in our final qualifier 2-3 to Tickton; a narrow loss against a very strong squad. Molescroft went into the next round as the runner up of Group 1 but after beating Keldmarsh comprehensively in a very exciting play-off; Molescroft went into the final feeling optimistic. The final was played off against our first round nemesis; Tickton. The mood of the team was tense but determined; could the only team to best us in the qualifiers be beaten for the cup? As it was after a shaky start our squad got the upper hand and with each victory their confidence grew. The team romped home to an easy win; thus retaining the cup and qualifying for a place in the next round- to be played in Hull later in the year. 5 Molescroft find it tough at the top. YEAR 6 HUMBER FINALS - NOVEMBER 2014 In reaching these finals, the present year 6 had matched last year s pupils and were determined to go one better and move through to the next round of matches. Their first challenge was to play and beat Gillshill ( Hull) and Old Clee (NE Lincs). They got off to a good start with confident tackling but then seemed to lose their way and Gillshill controlled the game with excellent passing. This led to a well worked goal to give them the lead. Molescroft managed to get on top in the second half with Connor Lindsay covering all parts of the pitch and Harry Armstrong, Ethan Jacobsen and Harrison McGregor kept the keeper busy too. Unfortunately they were unable to score making Gillshill winners of the first game. Old Clee proved to be similar opposition, a good passing side evenly matched with Molescroft. Tom Smith pushed forward to force the Old Clee keeper to pull of a brilliant save while at the other end Molescroft keeper Luke Scaife dived bravely at the striker s feet to prevent him from scoring.harrison and Mitch Bellotti had good runs on goal but nothing came of their attacks. A spell of intense pressure on Molescroft s defence enabled Old Clee to squeeze the ball past Luke to score the winning goal of the game. In losing their games ( both scores only by a single goal), Molescroft now played in the third place play off league the boys went down fighting in true bulldog spirit against Ferriby and Longhill. Disappointed in their results Molescroft were a little slow off the mark against Ferriby and were soon a goal down. Luke pulled off numerous saves to keep them in the game and Mitch almost scored the equaliser but the keeper pushed his shot wide. However, a brilliant header from Harry did find the back of the net and the game ended in a draw. Final opponents were Longhill, another strong passing team. Sadly for Molescroft Connor fell awkwardly and injured his ankle early on in the game and was unable to continue.molescroft battled on bravely but Longhill were just too strong and despite heroic attempts from Luke to keep the ball out of his goal,longhill managed to score three in quick succession. Molescroft were unable to counter this attack but they went down fighting in true bulldog spirit. Molescroft had enjoyed the experience of playing on the brilliant 4G pitch, clearly a wonderful asset to any school. Well done boys, you tried and we are proud of you all. Moles get a taste for a 4G pitch. FOMS take note!

6 Molescroft unbeaten in first round of the Longcroft League YEAR 6 BIG SCHOOLS LEAGUE AT LONGCROFT- 17/11/14 As current holders of this annual competition Molescroft found themselves up against four familiar teams in the first week of this two week fixture. Walkington were their first opponents and proved to be a strong team, retaining possession for long spells in the game. However, Molescroft managed to capitalise on a series of attacks and Ethan Jacobsen scored the only goal of the game to give Molescroft three valuable points. Their second match was against Minster, a team containing a strong contingent of girls who gave Molescroft a tough time. Keeper and captain Luke Scaife pulled off a series of brilliant saves but unfortunately Minster managed to force the ball past him to take the lead. Undaunted, Harry Armstrong surged forward and hit a strong shot which luckily deflected off a defender into the goal, levelling the score, both teams sharing the points. Local rivals St Mary s came next and once again Luke proved himself to be Captain Courageous with an amazing Luke proved himself to be Captain Courageous triple dive save to keep the ball out of the net. Mitch Bellotti and Harrison McGregor linked well in midfield to give Molescroft good spells of pressure, but they could not get the ball into the net despite a succession of attempts on the target. The game ended in a goalless draw. Final opponents were Keldmarsh and this was again a close game, both sides evenly matched. Defender Ben Gibson played another great game at the back alongside veteran Tom Smith, a promising partnership for future games. Strength at the back could not convert to goals up front and sadly the game was another goalless draw. Despite the cold and wet conditions, everyone had enjoyed some rousing competition with all players competing gamely for the ball. Molescroft fans hope next week with be just as entertaining, perhaps with more goals to ensure a higher proportion of points to gain a higher place on the league table. Well done boys, unbeaten so far, good luck for next time. Looking forward to the next round
