Exoskeleton As of 2009, there were 42,000 Veterans receiving medical care for spinal cord injuries (SCI) from the VA in this country. These men and women volunteered to serve their country and were severely wounded in combat. Now, we have the opportunity to do something to give back. Something that will allow them to stand up and walk. Something that will allow them to stand up and give their loved ones a proper hug and kiss. Something that will extend their lives and reduce their medical problems and expenses for the rest of their lives. BENEFITS OF USING THE EXOSKELETON Better bowel and bladder function. This will help reduce urinary tract infections, a common problem for people in wheelchairs. Physiological and psychological gains. The ability to find their personal height again and being able to stand and hug their loved ones gives a great emotional lift. The increased movement of muscles. Prevents joints from locking and growing together Pressure sores are relieved and avoid becoming infected. Skin Breakdowns are reduced. Digestive system shows improvements. Please schedule a Spinal Cord Injury benefit at your Aerie and make it a point to invite and include your local Veterans groups. Then invite them to become members. Pennsylvania Challenge Blairsville Aerie #1488 has begun a fundraising project to raise money for the Exoskeleton Program. They are challenging all the Aeries in Pa. to do the same so that enough money can be raised to purchase an Exoskeleton for a rehab facility in Pennsylvania. Plan an event in your Aerie for this worthwhile cause!!! PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE

Brothers, My name is Larry "The Teach" Mendenhall, PWSP This year I have the honor of being the Eastern Regional Representative for the Max Baer Heart Fund. I'm asking your Aerie to sponsor an event to raise money for this charity. When you make a donation, please make the check out to: FOE Charity Foundation and put "Max Baer Heart Fund" in the memo section. I thank you in advance for your help. Fraternally. Larry "The Teach" Mendenhall Eastern Regional Chairman, Max Baer Heart Fund LET'S KEEP THE "BEAT" GOING!!!

Brothers, My name is Mike Clepper, Pa. State Vice President. This year I have the honor of being the International Director of the Eagle Village. I am asking the Pennsylvania Aeries to donate to Eagle Village as one of their charities. Checks should be made out to Eagle Village and sent to the State Aerie who will then forward to the Grand Aerie. All donations will be appreciated as they are building a new recreation center. Anybody going to or passing through Bradenton, Florida is more than welcome to stop and visit Eagle Village. Who knows, you may decide to retire at this fine place. Mike Clepper

Affiliation Agreement As some of you may know, the Grand Aerie and some local Aeries have been found liable in recent lawsuits, costing the organization in dollars, valuable membership and leadership and adding additional stress and frustration which inhibits our ability to grow. With these situations and the protection of our members in mind, our legal team drafted the Affiliation Agreement. The Agreement provides protection to local members, officers, their buildings and property, as well as the Grand Aerie, and provides us with a valuable resource to guide decision-making on all levels. The Worthy President and Secretary of the Aerie are required to sign the Affiliation Agreement and send it back to the Grand Aerie Office to the attention of the Compliance Administrator. Once received, a Grand Aerie official will also sign the agreement and send a copy back to your Aerie for record keeping purposes. The Affiliation Agreement is located in the MMS Admin section of the Member Management System (MMS) for your review and signature. Further, the Affiliation Agreement requires each Aerie to enter into a similar agreement with each of its Auxiliaries, clubs within a club (such as REAC, Eagle Riders, etc.), and any other subordinate groups. A sample agreement has also been placed in the reports section of MMS for your reference. Please note the waiver on the first page of the agreement. Due to the variations in the laws across the United States, we cannot give each Aerie a finalized form to use, but we wanted to at least give an example of what the agreement between your Aerie and its associated groups could look like. Troubled Aerie What is the difference between an agent and a deputy grand worthy president? The Aerie must be suspended in order for an Agent to be assigned. An Agent has the authority to remove officers and sign legal documents, a Deputy Grand Worthy President does not have the authority to remove officers or sign any legal documents and the Aerie does not need to be suspended in order for a Deputy Grand Worthy President to be assigned into an Aerie/Auxiliary. When the Aerie is suspended, how does this affect the Auxiliary? An Aerie suspension has no effect upon the Charter of the Auxiliary and the Auxiliary is considered to be in good standing. May the Aerie officers be employed by the Aerie? Only if the bylaws of the Aerie allow for the employment of Aerie Officers. Also, the Aerie Trustees, Aerie Auditor, and their spouses or persons living in a marriage like situation may not be employees of the Aerie at any time. If the Aerie officers are not fulfilling the duties of their office, who do I contact? The Grand Worthy Presidents office should be notified in writing with the signature of at least one member of the Aerie or Auxiliary being affected. I have exhausted all of the resources available to me and still cannot find the answer to my question. What do I do next? You may ask for assistance in writing by mailing or ing your question to gwp@foe.com. A response will be sent as soon as possible

You are encouraged to participate in the Annual Christmas Donation in lieu of sending cards to everyone. This idea was initiated by PSP Arco DiNardo several years ago and has great merit. Instead of buying commercial cards and paying postage for the holiday mailings to your Eagle list, why not donate the money to the Eagle Charities through the State Aerie. Your holiday greetings and donation will be published in the December newsletter if you send it in by December 1. If it comes in later, the donation will be in the January issue. Let s put our dollars where we help others in the spirit of the Holidays. Send your donation check (made out to the charity of your choice) and your holiday greetings to: PA State Aerie, PO Box 799, Latrobe, PA 15650
