Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: 4 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose As required by Rule 2.6.2, this guide describes the methodology that may be adopted to carry out the measurement of the stepped position of the rig and boom of a Volvo Open 70. A measurer may depart from the procedures detailed herein when the circumstances prevent these procedures from being followed and when the measurer is satisfied that the alternate procedure produces results of equivalent accuracy and repeatability. This guide is not intended to describe all of the measurements that may be carried out when establishing Rule compliance of a Volvo Open Scope This guide applies to the measurers and participant representatives tasked with carrying out the measurement. 1.3 Roles The participant s personnel will carry out the preparation for the measurement and will supply all labour and equipment (other than measurer supplied equipment) as necessary to facilitate the measurement. Key responsibilities for the activities are divided between the following positions; Title Organisation Role Measurer Volvo Ocean Race S.L.U Control the measurement process. Coordinate the participant representatives during measurement and carry out measurements as required. Supply specified measuring equipment. Technicians Participant Undertake measurement related activities including marking, moving of equipment and components etc. Participants representative Participant Liaise with Participant as necessary to ensure all preparations are complete, and all equipment and labour are available. 1.4 Definitions and Acronyms For the purposes of this procedure any acronyms shall be as defined in the Volvo Open 70 Rule Version 3.

Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: 6 2 Commencement Prior to commencing the procedure, the requisite components and equipment will be assembled and available on site. 2.1 Boat The boat shall; be ashore and set up level relative to DWL both fore and aft (+/- 3mm) and transversely (+/- 2mm) have the rig in its fixed position as specified in rule and side standing rigging tensioned. (Forestay shall be tensioned for measurement of J). have the boom fitted with the mainsail removed. The boom shall be supported by a topping lift such that it is aligned perpendicular to the aft face of the mast. Lifelines shall be fitted and tensioned. 2.2 Measurer supplied equipment The measurer shall supply; All tape measures, rulers, callipers staffs etc required to take the official measurements. A rig in boat measurement checklist. A stringline A digital level The MFM measurements as determined during the shed measurement. The position of the RPD screw as determined during the shed measurement. 2.3 Participant supplied equipment The participant shall supply; All labour necessary to assist in the measurement process A steel set square (approx 500mm x 500mm) (If necessary, a straight beam that is long enough to span transversely across the boat from sheerline to sheerline at MFS.)

Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: 7 3 Activities 3.1 Initial measurement Prior to the arrival of the measurers the participants representative shall coordinate an initial measurement of the rig and boom as they are installed in the boat. This shall include all activities detailed herein. By conducting their own initial measurements prior to the arrival of the measurers the participant can confirm the actual measurements of the installed rig and boom against the designers expected values. These initial measurements also serve as a useful cross reference against the official values as determined by the measurers. Any discrepancy between the initial results and the official results can be identified and investigated at the time of official measurement. Carrying out initial measurements also helps to identify any obstructions to the measurement process prior to the arrival of the measurers. The results of the initial measurement shall be made available to the measurers. 3.2 Mast movement The measurer shall verify that the base of the mast tube is securely fastened to the mast step or adjoining structure. Verification shall be recorded on the checklist. Using a steel ruler, the measurers shall measure and record the amount of linear movement the mast has at the step and at the deck. 3.3 Rigging connections The measurer shall verify that; The shroud connections are above the local edge of the deck. The standing rigging chainplates are fitted wholly within the sheerline. All means of forestay, shrouds, spreaders, diamonds or jumper strut adjustment are positively locked. Tension measuring devices are incapable of adjusting rigging. The forestay is permanently attached. No spinnaker or jockey poles are fitted. Verification shall be recorded on the checklist. 3.4 Mast Datum (MD) The height of the mast datum band shall be determined relative to the Reference Point mid Upper (RPU) screws port and starboard. The measurers shall tension a stringline transversely across the upper lifelines aligned with the leading edge of the mast. The measurers shall measure back from the stringline to the shrouds P&S to confirm that the stringline is perpendicular to the centreline of the yacht. The measurers shall then measure and record the height A from RPU to the stringline P&S.

MFM (P&S) A (P&S) B Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: 8 It may be necessary to project the height of RPU forward using a level depending on the Mast Position (MP). MD STRINGLINE BETWEEN UPPER LIFELINES RPU RPU DWL The measurers shall then measure and record the height B from the top edge of the Mast Datum band to the stringline. MD shall be recorded as; MD MFM PORT 2 MFM STBD A PORT 2 A STBD B Once compliance with the Rule has been established, the measurer shall measure and record the height of the shim stack between the mast step and the base of the mast tube. This method proves acceptable for the vast majority of rig installations. If the team is worried about the potential for sag in the stringline then the process can be repeated with a straight edge aligned across the deck in place of the stringline. The straight edge has to be supported on blocks or shims towards the deck edge to raise it above the deck camber. The measurer must ensure that the straight edge is indeed straight and that it doesn t sag excessively under its own weight.

LLF Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: Mast Position (MP) The measurers shall use a digital level to project the position of the RPD screw vertically. Using a steel tape measure, the measurers shall determine the horizontal distance C between the RPD screw and the forward face of the mast at MD. Mast position (MP), shall be recorded as MP " C" Dis tan ce from LLF to RPD MD 'C' RPD DWL 3.6 Base of Foretriangle (J) The forestay shall be tensioned. The measurers shall use a digital level to project the position of the RPD screw vertically. Using a steel tape measure, the measurers shall determine the horizontal distance F between the RPD screw and the forward face of the mast at MD. The measurers shall use a straight edge to bridge any forestay recess. Using a steel tape measure, the measurers shall determine the horizontal distance D between the RPD screw and the forward face of the forestay at deck level.

LLF Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: 10 MD 'F' "D" RPD The base of Foretriangle (J), shall be recorded as, DWL J " F" " D" 1 2 Diameter of forestay 3.7 Mainsail Foot Length (E) The measurer shall confirm that the boom is aligned perpendicular to the mast using a steel set square. Using a steel tape measure, the measurers shall determine the mainsail foot length (E) measured from the aft face of the mast at BAD to the forward edge of the boom measurement band. This measurement shall be recorded. "E" 90 BAD With the boom aligned perpendicular to the mast, and using a straight edge or similar, the measurer shall project a fair extension of the top of the boom or boom track onto the aft face of the mast. The measurer shall verify that this point is not below the top edge of the BAD band marked on the mast. Verification shall be recorded on the checklist.

Guide: Rig in Boat Measurement Revision: C Page No: 11 4 Verification Complete the measurement verification checklist. During the measurement the owner s representative shall have the opportunity to verify any measurement that the measurer records. 5 Completion Upon completion of the rig in boat measurement the measurer(s) shall formalise their notes and measurements recorded and provide a copy to the participant s representative and the Chief Measurer..
