Carey Race 1: Carlton Draught QTIS 2yo Fillies Plate m The start of this race was delayed when SAMARAH GIRL (V. Colgan) proved difficult to load. AIMEE (M. McGuren) was slow to begin. ALL THE ANGELS (R. Goltz) began awkwardly. Soon after the start, WICKED TEMPTATION (B. El-Issa) shifted out and made heavy contact with AIMEE. After passing the 900m, WICKED TEMPTATION shifted in and bumped LEAD HUSSON (J. Stanley). SAMARAH GIRL raced greenly in the early stages and after passing the 800m hung out and continued to do so in the middle stages, and made the home turn extremely wide. The filly then compounded badly in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of SAMARAH GIRL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Gough was advised must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to being permitted to race again. Near the 700m, WICKED TEMPTATION improved onto the heels of LEAD HUSSON and shifted out, which resulted in AIMEE being taken wider on the track. TOTALLY SURE (R. McMahon) raced greenly in the middle stages and after passing the 600m was inclined to shift out away from WICKED TEMPTATION. ALL THE ANGELS hung in when placed under pressure over the final 100m., Race 2: Ascend Sales ATIS 2yo C&G Plate m A short distance after the start, JERRYVIL (G. Goold) shifted in abruptly and away from ENOUGH (J. Johnson).

2 LAREBIL (V. Colgan) raced greenly throughout. Approaching the 800m JERRYVIL shifted in and made contact with the running rail and then shifted out, resulting in ENOUGH (J. Johnson) being steadied when tightened for room between JERRYVIL and JUST LUCKY (R. McMahon). Nearing the 700m, BRADBURY'S GOLD (A. Allen) was inclined to lay in and made contact with JUST LUCKY, which became unbalanced. Passing the 250m, ENOUGH shifted in and made contact with the running rail. Over the final 200m, FEELIN' THE HEAT (J. Byrne) hung in when placed under pressure. BRADBURY'S GOLD raced 3 wide without cover. Race 3: Mount Franklin Sparkling F&M H'cap m MAGIC IN MOTION (V. Colgan) was slow to begin. Approaching the 1100m, PICKABEE (R. Wiggins) shifted out and made contact with WRITE CHEEK (C. Munce), forcing that runner wider. WRITE CHEEK then raced 3 wide until the 800m, where it was restrained to a rearward position. Both V. Colgan, rider of MAGIC IN MOTION, and M. Cahill, rider of ANNA LIZZIE, reported that their respective mounts were not suited when the tempo of the race was slow in the middle stages and developed into a sprint home over the final 600m. They added that in the circumstances MAGIC IN MOTION and ANNA LIZZIE performed well. Race 4: Wilston Grange AFC Benchmark 90 H'cap m On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Vance, rider of the 2nd placegetter, THEFT, against FALINO being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards' patrol video, it was established that after passing the 200m, THEFT shifted out when placed under pressure, and near the 150m brushed FALINO. Soon after, FALINO shifted in slightly and made slight contact with THEFT. As stewards were of the opinion that THEFT was a major contributor to both runners making contact at this point, the protest was dismissed and correct weight semaphored on the Judge's placings. FALINO (G. Goold) shifted out at the start and made contact with BILLY AUCASH (R. Wiggins). Race 5: The Good Guys Open H'cap m BUFFETT was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.55 pm after sustaining an eye injury en route to the course. All monies invested on Buffett were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable. 4 cents in the dollar for the Win #3 8 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3 4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2 9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5 SP bets are not subject to deductions Near the 1200m, when MALING (R. Jamieson) surrendered the lead to SAM'S TOWN (R. Wiggins), TRAJET (M. Cahill), which was following, had to be checked from the heels of MALING. Passing the 100m, BREAK THE ICE (J. Byrne) was taken out by MALING (R. Jamieson) and made contact with TRAJET (M. Cahill). V. Colgan, rider of LA BELLA MERMAID, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out right to the finish of the race.

3 Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice R. Jamieson regarding for her surrendering the lead near the 1200 after riding aggressively in the early stages to hold that position. Apprentice Jamieson explained that she was instructed to lead on MALING today if circumstances allowed. She stated that in her opinion she had erred by slowing the tempo of the race between the 1500m and 1200m, and when SAM'S TOWN improved quickly to her outside, she was unable to hold the lead as MALING was unable to quicken. Stewards advised R. Jamieson's that she had erred by not maintaining a more consistent speed on MALING from the 1500m and attempt to hold the lead when challenged near the 1200m. Stewards were not of the view that this error was so unreasonable that it warranted any direct action being taken against the licence of Miss Jamieson. Race 6: Yellowglen QTIS 3yo H'cap m SKYTASTIC (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin. Near the 900m, MISS HUSSON (V. Colgan) shifted in towards the running rail and became unbalanced. When asked to explain the performance of HALLSIDE ROSE, J. Byrne reported that the filly had to work hard in the early stages in order to take up a prominent position and added that the filly travelled comfortably in the middle stages but when placed under pressure from the 400m began to weaken. Jockey Byrne added that HALLSIDE ROSE was having its first start back from a spell today and would take a fitness benefit from today's race. A post race veterinary examination of HALLSIDE ROSE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D. Heinemann undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that may become apparent with HALLSIDE ROSE in the days following the race. Stewards also sought an explanation from apprentice G. Goold regarding the performance of MYTHOLOGIST. G. Goold explained that from the wide barrier he was unable to muster the necessary speed approaching the first turn to clear FRIENDLY DRAGON (C. Munce) to gain a position one off the fence. As a result, MYTHOLOGIST raced 3 wide until entering the home straight where it was placed under pressure, however proved disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination of MYTHOLOGIST failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 7: Channel Seven Open H'cap m Soon after the start, ELMANTOSH (R. McMahon) was briefly tightened for room by LISTEN SON (M. Vance) and as a result shifted in and made contact with EQUISSENTIAL (A. Taylor). ELUSIVE KING (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages. ELMANTOSH (R. McMahon) raced 3 wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to cross to a position outside the leader near the 800m. MUHAAJIR (A. Pattillo) was inclined to hang in for a major part of the race. DOLLY DOLLY (B. Richardson) was disappointed for a run in the early part of the home straight, and near the 200m was again disappointed for a run between ELMANTOSH and MUHAAJIR and had to alter course to the inside of ELMANTOSH in order to improve. When questioned regarding the improved performance of LISTEN SON, stable representative Mr John Fleming explained that the horse had recovered well from its disappointing performance at Eagle Farm and appreciated the step up in distance and firm track today, and also the advantage of apprentice M. Vance's claim. The explanation was noted. Race 8: Bundaberg Distilling Co 2mw H'cap m BRADBURY CHOCOLATE (A. Allen) was slow to begin. QUICK'S THE WORD (B. El-Issa) shifted in at the start, resulting in SHAZZLE PAZZLE (C. Munce) being taken in on to URGENT BELLS (J. Byrne), which had to be steadied.

4 R. McMahon, rider of DESTRUCTION, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of URGENT BELLS (J. Byrne), which had been taken in across the rightful running of BRADBURY CHOCOLATE, which had to be severely checked. R. McMahon was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 October and to expire at midnight, 16 October. A. Allen, rider of BRADBURY CHOCOLATE, was cautioned regarding the standard of evidence he provided throughout the inquiry. DESTRUCTION (R. McMahon) was unable to secure clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, and was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 250m. When asked to explain the disappointing performance of SPOT THE ROCK, M. Cahill stated that the gelding blundered at the start and approaching the first turn he elected to take hold of the gelding and obtain cover. M. Cahill added that from that point SPOT THE ROCK never travelled comfortably. A post race veterinary examination of SPOT THE ROCK revealed an abnormal respiratory noise, a cut to the right side of its mouth and exhibiting soreness in the near-side knee. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for SPOT THE ROCK prior to its next race start.
