3 HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT POOL FOR YOUR FAMILY Purchasing a pool is a big decision, so when people start the process there are many questions that need to be answered before the pool goes into the ground. Once in the ground, you can t change shape, size, depth, so you need to do your homework before your purchase. Who are the pool s main users, and how often will they likely use the pool? Are your children going to be the main users of the pool? How many children do you have? If you have two children, then realistically you are not going to need a huge big pool. We are not implying that big pools are bad. We just want people to think about why they choose what they choose when it comes to their pool. Fact is that although kids will say they want a huge big pool, most of them will end up using a 25-ft.-long pool as much as they would use a 35-ft. pool. Kids just want to swim, and have fun, and as far as we know, no child has EVER boycotted a swimming pool because it was too small. Does anyone plan on doing laps in the pool? Do you have a real swimmer in the house who is wanting to do training at home? If so we suggest that the pool be at least 25 Metres in length, which simulates the length of a lot of commercial training pools. What are the Local Council rules for having a pool? Firstly, you will need to make sure that the sized pool you are looking at fits within your boundary. Also, check with your Local Council to see what Permits and Fencing Regulations you will require beforehand. This can be a hidden cost when planning a pool. How often will you be entertaining by the pool? You need to also think about the size of your landscaped area around your pool. If you entertain often, you will need to make a larger area around the pool, and landscape accordingly. There are some great ideas of pool landscaping, paving and decking ideas on Pinterest. Will our family change size in the coming years? I know it s hard to see into the future, but families change, especially when grandkids enter the picture. Who is going to clean the Pool? This is one part of having a pool that everyone hates.
