2 SECTION A OPEN SOLO CHAMPIONSHIPS AGE IS AS OF JANUARY 1, 2015 Please note: if born on 1/1/15 you remain the younger age Criteria for Entry in New England Oireachtas 1. Competitors must be a Prize Winner Dancer for all solo dances and must have placed 1 st in Prizewinner competitions in a soft shoe dance (Reel or Slip Jig) and first in a hard shoe dance (Heavy Jig or Hornpipe). The only exception to this is in Under 8 and 9, which is at the teacher s discretion. 2. Dancers must be registered with a dancing school who s teacher(s) is/are members in good standing with An Coimisiún, IDTANA and IDTANE. 3. Teachers registering dancers in the Oireachtas must have no outstanding assessments against them. 4. Dancer must be resident in New England. *Exception Ceili - Please see eligibility for Ceili Performance Rules 1. Championships will commence with the hard shoe round followed by the soft shoe round. Dances will be as stipulated in syllabus. For U8-U15, dancers will perform the first round (hard shoe) three at a time. In all other age groups, dancers will perform the first round (hard shoe) two at a time. For all age groups, dancers will perform the second round (light shoe) two at a time. Competitors who are recalled to the third round will perform a set dance of the own choice from the official list of set dances. In the Under 8 and Under 9 age groups, competitors will perform their choice of Traditional Set. Traditional Sets must be danced one at a time. Dancers that are not recalled will go to the Omni Ballroom and dance a step down the line. The dance will be a step from the light dance for their age group listed in the syllabus. Awards will be posted for this competition. 2. ROTATIONS: The draw for starting numbers will be done randomly by computer and posted The starting number for Round 2 will be 1/3 of the competition added to the first round s starting number. The starting number for Round 3 will be 1/3 of the competition added to the second round's starting number. Dancers must follow the rotation as listed in the official program book. Dancers realizing they may end up performing with an associated dancer must notify the Stage Manager immediately to discuss re-assignment in the rotation. 3. Number Check When a championship consists of single rounds adjudicated by separate panels as part of a whole championship (rotating panel), at the end of each of the first two rounds, all dancers must be represented to the adjudication panel in full costume in the orde danced for a number check. 4. Costume Rules A summary of costume rules, and this procedure, is located on the downloads section of the CLRG website - At this time no marks are deducted from the dancer s score if a dancer is noted for a costume infraction. **Also please note that an adjudicator's role is only to tick the box to indicate a costume infraction. As stated on the CLRG website / Downloads / Costume Rules: "Other than an indication via the tick box column, judges will not discuss costume irregularities with dancers, parents or teachers at a feis. Nor will judges makes notes about costumes in the comments section of

3 adjudication sheets. The costume tick box column is the only avenue of notification for a costume infraction. 5. Guidelines for Traditional Set Dances - Guidelines for Teachers and Adjudicators 1) ALL versions of traditional set dances are acceptable once danced in a traditional style. 2) Clicks are not permitted in any traditional set dance. 3) Dancers are not permitted to move in a counter direction when executing "rolls." "Rolls" may be danced on the spot or moving in the direction of the leading foot e.g. the first bar of music in the King of the Fairies may be danced on the spot or to the right when dancing on the right foot and on the spot or to the left when dancing on the left foot. 4) "Rocks" in any traditional set dance must be fully completed and not cut short. 5) JOB OF JOURNEYWORK: "Boxes" in this traditional set dance may be executed in either FOUR or FIVE beats. The "box" must be completed by the two shoes touching at the toe piece. There is no "stamp" immediately following the "box". 6) ST. PATRICKS DAY: In the 5 th bar of the step (lead) and also the 5 th and 10 th bars of the set, dancers must hit their toe to their heel. Banging of the toe on the floor is not permitted. 7) Single and double trebles are acceptable in the step (lead) of all traditional set dances. 6. MISHAPS /SHOE LOSS: a. Should a dancer fall, slip or bump into another dancer on stage, whether in solos or in teams, the adjudicator MUST ring the bell to stop the performance of the dancer(s). Dancers so affected will be permitted to re-dance and will be marked at the discretion of each individual adjudicator. Should in the opinion of the stage steward, having obtained medical advice if necessary, a dancer be unfit to re-dance and if such dancer insists on his/her right to do so then the dancer concerned will only be permitted to re-dance on completion of a declaration form exonerating IDTANA of liability for any consequences. Any repeat accident / incident which results in that dancer being unable to complete the required number of bars of any round, will result in the dancer withdrawing without question from the Championship. b. Dancers stopped by the judges during the last eight (8) bars of any performance are only required to dance the last sixteen (16) bars of that dance again at a time convenient to dancers, adjudicators and stage stewards. Where feasible, dancers will be brought back no sooner than three rotations, and no more than five rotations. c. A competitor must not walk off the stage during a performance unless instructed to do so by an adjudicator. A dancer who dismisses themselves from the stage without the permission of adjudicators will be given zero marks for that particular dance. d. If at any point during a performance on stage an adjudicator feels that due to the health and safety of a performer on stage that the performance should be stopped the adjudicator must ring the bell.

4 e. Should a dancer lose a heel or a complete shoe, he or she may stand back - allowing the other dancer(s) to continue dancing uninhibited. In such a case the dancer concerned will be permitted to re-dance without penalty as soon as it is deemed practical by the Stage Manager. 7. ARTIFICIAL CARRIAGE AIDS etc: Any competitor found to be using artificial carriage aids and/or wearing heavy shoes on the wrong feet and subsequently refuses to remove same will be subject to disqualification from that particular competition. Medically prescribed apparatus (proof of which will be required) will be exempt from this ruling. 8. MAKEUP: Competitors in Under 8, 9 and 10 solo and team events are prohibited from wearing makeup or false eyelashes per CLRG rule 4.5.2, implemented as of March 1, If a dancer falls and recovers that dancer may still place in the final 1st 2nd or 3rd result even if the dancer does not place 1st 2nd or 3rd in that dance. 10. Should a dancer fall on stage, the adjudicator MUST ring the bell to stop the performance of the dancer(s). Dancers so affected will be permitted to re -dance. 11. In Solo Dancing ANY COMPETITOR THAT DANCES OFF THE DESIGNATED STAGE AREA CANNOT PLACE IN THE TOP THREE IN THAT ROUND, BUT MAY PLACE 1ST 2ND OR 3RD IN THE OVERALL COMPETITION RESULTS. 12. Competitors will dance for 48 bars in the reel and jig and 40 bars in the slip-jig and hornpipe after an 8 bar introduction. 13. Dancers beginning to dance before or after the stipulated 8 bar introduction will automaticall receive a ZERO for that round from all adjudicators. 14. Introductions for set-dances will be played only once and competitors must set their speeds during that one playing. No variation in speed will be allowed once dancing is due to commence. Dancers beginning to dance before or after the stipulated set dance introduction will automatically receive a ZERO for that round from all adjudicators. 15. (a) If a dancer fails to dance the 1st round of a championship, that dancer will be allowed to dance the 2nd round as a courtesy but will receive ZERO marks from all adjudicators for BOTH rounds and wil not be allowed to appear in the recall round. (b) If a dancer fails to dance the 2nd round of a championship, no courtesy will be extended and that dancer will receive ZERO marks from all adjudicators for BOTH rounds and will not be allowed to appear in the recall round. (c) A dancer who fails to dance or complete the recall round will receive ZERO marks from all adjudicators for that round and cannot appear in a medal winning position. 16. A competitor who fails to dance or complete the recall round will receive a ZERO for that round and cannot appear in a medal winning position. 17. En Pointe Dancing: No block or en pointe moves, stationery or moving, will be permitted to be performed by all ages up to and including Under 11 years of age. 18. In all heavy dances, the leads must be performed on both right and left foot.

Once the first dancer has commenced, late arrivals will be disqualified and will not be permitted to dance.

7 SECTION B TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS Choice of Figure - Top Couple Only For all 8 Hands PLEASE NOTE ALL 4-HAND DANCES WILL BE PERFORMED 2 AT A TIME FOUR HAND CEILI 4-HAND REEL OR THE HUMOURS OF BANDON 1STFIGURE TOP COUPLE ONLY Ceili Competitions Eligibility for entry in Ceili and Choreography Teams Where a TCRG teaches in more than one region and 50% of dancers in an eight hand dance are from each region he or she may choose the Region where the team dances. The dancers MAY NOT dance in more than one region. If more than 50% of dances are from a specific region, the dancers must dance in that Region. A girl is allowed to dance in both the girls and mixed teams in their own age group. This is not considered a repeat dancer. A repeat dancer is when a dancer dances in their own age group and is moved up to the NEXT highe age group to complete a team A dancer may move up 2 age groups, however in that case the dancer may only dance in the higher age group forfeiting the right to dance in their proper age group. ****If entering a team in Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne under 19 and over 19 it is necessary to enter 2 teams in the 15 and over age group**** 1. A mixed team must consist of at least 25% males. i.e. 1 boy in a 4 hand/2 in an 8 hand Hands must be chosen from An Rince Foirne Books 1,2 or Hands must perform the Lead, Body, and choice of figure by leading tops only. 4. In Humors of Bandon teams will dance Lead, Body, Figure designated and body again. 5. In the 3 Tunes complete Roly Poly, The Sweets of May complete 3 rd Figure (See Saw) and in the Gates of Derry complete the swing around. 6. Tops have back to Adjudicators (8 hand dances), Tops left of adjudicators (4 hands) 7. 4 Hands must dance FIRST figure, 8 Hands figure of choice. 8. All teams must have a minimum of 50% of them team in the correct age group. This means that 2 out of 4 in a 4 hand must be of the correct age and 4 out of an 8 hand. 50% of a team may be moved up one age group. You may never move a dancer under their age. 9. When using repeat dancers, this may only consist of 25% of the team. In a 4 hand this means 1 dancer and in an 8 hand this means 2 dancers. Example in an 8 hand you may have 4 dancers in the correct age group, 4 moving up one age group and of those 4 dancers 2 may be repeat dancers. Figure Choreography and Dance Drama Rules as per An Coimisiun World syllabus will apply FIGURE CHOREOGRAPHY: All figure choreography competitions will be governed by the CLRG Rules as published in the current Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne syllabus (which can be found at: However, at the NAIDC, any mixed figure choreography team is a team that that has at least one boy, provided that no more than 50% of that mixed team features girls repeating form the girls choreography competition in the same age group. 8 DANCE DRAMA: All dance drama competitions will be governed by the CLRG Rules as published in the current Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne syllabus (which can be found at: There is a 15 minute time limit from start to finish including setup, reading of story, performance and dismantling of stage set. STORIES AND MUSIC: Narratives must be typed and six (6) copies must be submitted to the Stage Manage at least one hour prior to the competition. Teams must supply their own music on either an ipod or MP3 playe and all teams must have someone (other than a teacher from the school) available to start the music. Each stage will be equipped with a 1/8" jack ipod connector. Teams may use their own narrator to read the story however no TCRG affiliated with the school will be permitted to read the story. Additionally, stories for Figure Choreography/Dance Drama may not be read by anyone wearing clothing on which the school name appears other than a dance costume. [Per IDTANA Rule passed July 2013]. 9 Adult Dancers: Competitors must meet one of the following two criteria: - Dancers must not have taken Irish Dancing lessons as juveniles and must be at least 18 years of age on January 1 st Dancers may have taken Irish Dancing lessons as juveniles, but have not competed in any competition (solo or team) at any feiseanna or Oireachtaisí, except competitions specifically designated for adults or Dance Drama, within the past 5 years and must be at least 18 years of age on January 1 st Traditional Set Competitions 1. Competitors may not enter Special (Traditional Sets) and Open Solo Competitions 2. Traditional set dance competitions are confined to those dancers who have not placed in a preliminary championships from Jan. 1st to the closing date for entries in the current year. 3. Competitors entered in the Traditional Set competition must specify their set dance at the time of entry. Changes may not take place after October 10 th. 11 Rules for Dancers and Teachers 1. Dancers must report in on time and dance in their assigned rotation, or they will be disqualified. No dancer will be allowed to check in and/or dance after the first two competitors have walked on to the dancing stage. 2. Dancers must dance in their own age group in Solo Competitions. 3. Respect for fellow competitors on stage is a requirement at all times. Lack of respect or courtesy for fellow competitors by aggressive dancing on stage will be subject to penalty at the discretion of each individual adjudicator. 4. Adjudicators decisions is final 5. The decisions of the Regional Director and Committee will be final in all matters connected with the Oireachtas. 6. Dancers will not be permitted to walk about the venue unless dressed accordingly. Please adhere to this rule stringently. Bloomers and sports bras are not deemed to be appropriate attire. 7. Teachers must not approach dancers whilst in the sight of the adjudicators i.e. when lining u to dance or after completion of competition. 8. Should it be necessary for a dancer to be contacted whilst in line please ask the stage steward to direct the dancer to a place where you can communicate outside the vision of the adjudicators. Failure to comply with this could result in action being taken. 9. Competitors may not enter Special (Traditional Sets) and Solo Competitions 10. Traditional set dance competitions are confined to those dancers who have not placed in a preliminary championships from Jan. 1 st to the closing date for entries in the current year. 11. Competitors entered in the Traditional Set competition must specify their set dance at the time of entry. Changes may not take place after October 10 th. Teachers and parents pleatake note: The set may not be changed the weekend of the Oireachtas Awards Dancers must be in full costume and dancing shoes for awards presentations. The Times and location of awards will be printed in Program Book. Competition Stipends - That the first place winners for all world qualifying solo competitions will receive $150, and the 2 nd and 3 rd place winners will receive $75 each. The official number of world qualifiers is determined by An Coimisiun rules and the official number of total awards will be determined by IDTANA New England Region, Inc. Dancers are responsible for their awards after they have been presented. The Committee will not replace or repair any damaged awards after presentation. SOLO RECALL AND PLACEMENT RULES 1. If more than 20 dancers in a solo competition, 50% recall and place. 2. If there are 5-20 dancers in a solo competition, all will recall and 50% will place. A list, in rotation order, of the dancers that will place will be posted upon completion. 3. If less than 5 dancers in a solo competition all will recall and place. 4. The number of placers in any competition shall never be less than the number of World Qualifiers for that competition. In the event this happens, all dancers who will qualify for the worlds will be placed at the regional.

12 5. If the above rules ever result in one dancer being omitted from placement, tabulation will contact the regional director for an exception to be made. TEAM PLACEMENT RULES 1. If 5 or more teams dance, 50% will place. A list, in rotation order, of the teams that will place will be posted upon completion. 2. If less than 5 teams dance, all will place. SOLO AWARDS 1. When there are more than 10 dancers, for each of the 1 st 2 solo rounds, 30% of the dancers will receive a solo medal. A list, in rotation order, of the dancers that will receive a solo medal for each round will be posted once the recall has been announced for that competition. 2. When there are 10 or less dancers, they will all receive a solo medal. In the event that a situation or circumstance is not governed by an existing IDTANA New England Region, Inc. rule or a rule outlined in the syllabus, then the rules found in the syllabus for Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2015 (World Championships) will apply. OBJECTIONS Must be made in writing within one hour of event in question and signed by complainant. Complaints may only be submitted by or thru a TCRG. $25 cash should accompany them and acknowledgment of time received must be recorded. These should be submitted in the first instance to the Regional Director. Personal Injuries IDTANA, IDTANA New England Region, Inc., the Rhode Island Convention Center or the Omni Hotel WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE. Anyone found damaging hotel and/or convention center property, dancing stages and/or any equipment or materials integral to the running of this event, will be held responsible for the cost of replacement or repairs and will be punishable to the full extent of the law. He or she will be removed from the premises and barred from all remaining events. A dancer may be disqualified from Both Solo and Team Events. Adjudicators All decisions of the Adjudicators are final. Only members of the Committee may approach adjudicators.
