This edition of the Bow Watch finds us entering the dog days of August. Water Festival is becoming a distant memory and the kids go back to school in a couple of weeks (when did that start?). I know that in August the pool is usually too warm to provide any relief, but this year, we have combined the concept of evaporative cooling with a little southern engineering which has lowered the temperature of the water approximately 8 degrees. Be sure to come down and check it out! Also, don t forget the Labor Day Regatta and Picnic. The regatta starts at 2:00 on Sunday and continues beginning at 1:00 on Monday. All of the races also count toward the Fall Series scores. There will be shore side activities for non-sailors on Monday starting at 1:00 with food being served at 4:30. Make plans to come join us! John Potter Commodore Celebrate all the Olympians with your favorite dish from around the world! Upcoming in September The Labor Day Regatta and Picnic Sunday, September 4 Regatta Monday, September 5-Regatta & Picnic Please scroll down for more details.
2 General Manager s Message: Mitch McGuigan Club News September is just around the corner and begins with our traditional Labor Day Regatta and Picnic. Scroll down in Bow Watch for details about racing and the picnic. Chuck Stauffer, our maintenance supervisor, is helping his son sail his boat from Washington State to San Diego, California. They have reached Newport, Washington and are waiting for the next weather window. They have seen pacific whales and are loving the adventure. While on late watch, Chuck says he tells the whales the many stories of his life. Steak Night Simon Jenkins has declared himself vegan and has passed the leadership torch to Ulrike Poppeliers and Angie Williams. Both have been key members of the Steak Night Team. They are looking for more volunteers. If you would like to join the team, contact them at ulrikepop@gmail.com or angeinbeaufort@yahoo.com Simon, under your leadership, Steak Night has become a BYSC institution. Thank you for your dedication over the years. We will miss you at Steak Night and hope you enjoy 101 ways to enjoy kale. New Members Please join me in welcoming 24 new members to the club. 4 BYSC Summer Camp had a wonderful summer. Two hundred and ten campers enjoyed days filled with trips to the Sand Bar, looking for shark teeth at Port Royal Sands, tubing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and fishing. Some highlights of our summer were trips to Yo Yo s, Kona Ice, and visits from the Fripp Island Naturalist who brought snakes, turtles and a baby alligator named Archibald to BYSC. Please check out our Facebook page, BYSC Summer Camp to see us in action.
