Work parties have started and are going very well. A lot is getting done in a short period of time. It s good to see everyone working together. The electric project at the Point has resumed and should be completed in early May, weather permitting. As I said before, May is a busy month; work parties/lift-in, Mother s Day Breakfast, Blessing of the Fleet, Marty Burger Night, so check the calendar for dates and times. I hope to see everyone at these fun events. Open Houses seem to be attracting some interest, so we will continue to put the sign up during all work parties. Until next time, see you at the Club. Vice Commodore s Comments Bernie Keary Hi All ~ Wow what a weekend. Friday night s dinner (April 17) was delicious. Thanks to all that attended, and to the partiers that came later. That made for the bar's biggest night of the season. Speaking of the bar, it will be open Friday nights up to and including May 15. Come on down. Saturday, April 18 produced one of the biggest work parties in years, and a great lunch was served. I have extra gate cards for $5.00 each. If you need some, see me at meetings, Friday nights or the Mother's Day Breakfast. Rear Commodore s Comments Larry Schwenk Gayle Feldman Hi Everyone ~ The weather is cooperating a little bit. We had an awesome work party on April 18, but there is still lots to do. The water is turned on and the adopt-a-gardens are getting chosen, so if you still want to adopt one, please let me know. The garden areas that are still available are the ones by the pool and Clubhouse and front gate areas. Please help with making our Club look great. Hope to see all of you at the work parties!
4 Fleet Captain s Comments Well it s finally happened, spring has sprung, work parties have begun and the outside activities at LCYC are picking up. Boat lift-ins begin May 2 as should dock repairs. I have walked the grounds to check the condition of dock posts and decking and to check the perimeter decks. I could use some help installing replacement posts and repairing/replacing deck planks. I will be at the Club every Saturday until the end of May so, if you feel like lending a hand, come on down. As always we could use help with the annual lift-in festivities. If I missed anything that needs to be replaced or repaired please bring it to my attention, it will be addressed. An important note: Please be cautious around the perimeter decks on B wall along the main channel. We are installing the water and power to the new stanchions so there are many missing deck planks. Treasurer s Comments Dale Cover P/C John Kromar If you have not picked up your 2015 membership and key cards, they will be available at the May General Membership Meeting. Please remember to keep up with the payment schedule you selected with your contract. If your payment is delinquent, your boat will not be lifted-in. The same holds true if your insurance is not up to date. I don't want to be a bearer of bad tidings, but those are the rules we have to follow. Thanks for your cooperation. Entertainment Committee Caren Kichinka & Tony Caputo It looked like a good time was had by all at the BBQ Spaghetti Dinner on April 17. We may consider doing this again since it was such a success. With so many activities already planned in May, we won t be having an event until the LCYC Progressive Deck Dinner on Saturday, June 20. Please watch for more details. Sunshine Report Marilyn Schaffer Deborah Zinner had knee surgery in March. I hope she is completely recovered by now. A card was sent. Former LCYC member Diane Jones passed away on April 8 after a short illness. A Celebration of Life is planned for May 23 from 2:00p-5:00p at LCYC. Please see the attached flyer for all of the details. Margo Schwenk is having severe knee pain. I hope she decides to take care of it soon. We are thinking of you. Brad Ronevich will be graduating with honors from Lakeland Community College on May 9, 2015 with a certified ADN degree (Associates Degree in Nursing). Congratulations, Brad! Keep well and safe LCYC. We like to hear good news also ~ any graduations or births coming up? Please let me know. I can be reached at jerryschaffer@gmail.com or Friday, May 22 Marty Burgers This event, hosted by Blue Gavel, kicks off the start of the boating season. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this traditional LCYC event - you won't be disappointed. See the flyer for details. Sunday, May 24 Blessing of the Fleet This official start to the boating season is scheduled for Sunday, May 24 th at 2:00 pm. Please meet at the Clubhouse for a short prayer service followed by the blessing of all the boats. A potluck dinner will be held in the pavilion immediately following the blessing. Please bring a dish for 6-8 to share Memorial Day Weekend Events Saturday, May 23 Last Lift-In Today is the last official lift-in/work party. Hopefully by now all the boats are in the water and everyone is ready to enjoy the summer and have a great boating season. Monday, May 25 USS Cod Our officers will be dressed in their uniforms for this annual ceremony of remembrance. This is a touching event and can be attended by anyone who wishes to go. This event starts at 9:00a. For more information, contact P/C Jerry Catalano.
