1 Evaporative emission test procedure for Sealed Tank System(STS) Proposed by Japan 30 MAR

2 1. Background New technologies (to improve air quality pollutants and greenhouse gas - ) and Stringent of evaporative emission test procedure require the unique evaporative system for some models. Due to its unique configuration, current test procedure (defined by UN-R and Japanese TRAIS) does not fit to evaluate this technologies in a right manner. Appropriate test procedure shall be newly developed Puff loss Canister One of the solutions : The Sealed Tank System

Future of the sealed tank system Loading process under the current test procedure simulates the vapor flow through 1, NOT 2. 3 Puff loss Canister 1 keep closed during parking control valve 2 2 open only when just before refueling 1 1 No fuel vapor flow into the canister during parking because the control valve keep closed. 2 Fuel vapor flow into the puff loss canister only when just before refueling (the control valve opens when refueling event start, then closes after tank pressure goes down) 3 Purge air volume will be largely reduced due to the adoption of new technologies and the shortened driving cycle after canister loading

Sealed tank system : equal to puff loss loading Conventional system : 2g breakthrough Other than loading conditions, same test procedure as conventional system shall be kept. (please refer the general test sequence in slide_7)
